Chapter 10 The rest of the spring and early summer flew by, Sam crossing every day off on his wall calendar. As expected, Mary got back with Jerry. He had realised, much to Mary’s relief, that gay people didn’t have horns growing out of their heads. He also learnt that not all gay people were limp-wristed or spoke with a lisp. We did go out on a double date. It was okay, but I wouldn’t put it any higher than that. Jerry behaved himself, no cross words or dirty looks were exchanged, but once it was over, Mark and I agreed it was an experience we weren’t keen to repeat.
