"Aspen?" His brows creased and it seemed as if he couldn't believe his eyes. His hands ran through his hair and I immediately knew what he was feeling... frustration! He shut his eyes tight for a moment and I knew he was flaring up. Of course I knew all of this because I was once his best friend. "Blake…" I made an attempt to calm him by placing my hands on his sending sparks and tingles to my spine. "Blake?" A voice called very softly and seductively of course the voice sounded very familiar to my hearing and I immediately knew who it was without looking. "Yes babe," he responded, flashing her a seductive smile which made my blood boil. What a coward! I couldn't believe it. She linked her arms in his and shot me a glare before turning right back to him. "What do you think you are doing with her, stop this and let's move to the podium, it's embarrassing!" She whined and batted her eyelashes at him. I stood there dumbfounded trying to process all what's happening, right here, right now. "Happy birthday to you Beta Layla," a tiny voice interrupted us. I turned to see a quite familiar figure, she wore a stunning red little dress with silver diamonds and a very dark shade of lipstick. She used to be one of my very own friends until that very night. But they all turned their back from me and befriended Layla instead. "Oh mind me, Future Luna of our glorious pack," she smiled before finally throwing me a disgusting smile. "Thank you Claire, that was very sweet of you, do you agree Aspen?" She directed a fake smile at me. "I do," I replied with a stoic look on her face, of course she was trying to rub it in my face, trying to show off and taunt me till I broke down. But I wouldn't give her that satisfaction. In the next second, she turned back to him and flashed him a seductive smile before whispering in his ears. "Let's make it official," she whispered every word and maintained eye contact with me while doing so. I knew what she was trying to do so I clenched my jaws tightly. With that she grabbed a glass of wine from the waiter and picked up a fork from the table. "Everyone," she called, clinking the fork to the glass and getting the attention of everyone. She carefully dropped back the glass on the table and gently placed her fork beside it. She turned back to him and placed her long manicured nails on his lapels and pretended to adjust them. "Blake and I have an announcement to make." She added and flashed him a wide smile while batting her lashes innocently. He immediately nodded to her and his hands made their way to her waist. "I have finally found my mate!" He announced with a thick voice and the whole place fell into a pin drop silence. At this point, my heart was drumming loud in my chest that I was scared that everyone might hear that. Beads of sweat formed on my forehead as I waited for his next words. "Layla Creek is my future wife and Luna," he intertwined their hands and raised it up, a joyous smile on their lips as everyone in the crowd cheered. Everyone including my father, my friends and all of those who had looked up to me in the past has their hero and role model. "Damn you Blake Smith! Screw you!" I wailed internally over and over and at the same time trying hard not to break down and burst into tears. Just then, her hand crawled their way to his neck and he delicately placed his hands on her face and leaned in for a long kiss. The cheers, howls grew louder and louder and filled my ears. That was it, I couldn't stay any minute longer. I dropped the tray amidst the anger and fury and dashed towards my room. "Traitors!" I muttered internally as I stormed off. "All damned traitors! Every single one of them!" A tear slid down my face as soon as I entered the mansion. I was about to break down when I felt a cold hand on my shoulder and I stood frozen on the spot. 'How dare he come after me after all that? I wanted to burst out in anger but the sparks and tingles shooting through me and sending pleasurable shivers to my spine. That only lasted for a few seconds as he slammed my back roughly against the wall and pinned my hands above my head. "Blake?" I managed to call his name with a fierce tone even though I stammered a little. His touch seemed to have melted half of the anger I felt and I couldn't even help it. Damn Mate bond! "Aspen?" His voice was deep and thick, and he was whispering in my ear, although his voice sounded pleasing to my ears, I managed to keep a scowl on my face. Of course he knows how well the mate bond is affecting me and he is using that to his own advantage. "Get your hands off me!" I stammered and couldn't help but bite my lips as embarrassment washed through me. "How could it be Aspen? Why will the moon goddess toy with me and mate me with you!" He held my chin up as he spoke. I could see the anger and fury dancing in his eyes as he stared at me. "Stop it Blake, you are hurting me!" I yelled at him and managed to push his filthy hands off me. "Hurting you? You deserve it Aspen, all of it! Just why will the moon goddess pair me with you in order to ruin my life!" He scowled. "You cheat!" I hollered and slapped him right in the face. "We had always prayed to the moon goddess…." He interrupted me before I could even finish my words and grabbed my throat, making me short of breath. "That was then Aspen! That was when you were still the betas daughter, don't tell me you dared to think that I would accept you now omega! Back then when we both wished for it, I had hoped that you would transform into a very strong wolf, strong enough to fight and protect the back because you are of betas blood, but it turns out that I was wrong! You are just a pathetic little wolfless mess of no importance!" By the time he finished his words, tears were now flowing down freely from my eyes. "So does that mean that you had no feelings for me back then, and you were only planning to use me?" I questioned, his hands still wrapped around my throat. "Yes, but for goodness sake, I was only doing that for your own good and the good of the pack!" He enunciated each word with a smirk on his face. "So does that mean that you had no feelings for me?" I managed to question without my voice quivering. "I don't care about feelings Aspen, I only do things that will benefit the pack and nothing else!" He stated. "Blake, you lied to everyone!" I stuttered while gasping for breath. "Yes, I did and that was for the good of the pack and now you will be a good girl if you shut your mouth up and tell no one!" He threatened and tightened his hold on my throat, the sparks still shooting to my spine. I didn't miss the bloodshot look in his eyes and could only help but nod in response to his threat. "I guess we are on the same page now Aspen," he whispered as he parted my hair and I scowled at him with disgust. "I am still not sure of what to do to you tho, I mean why should I even reject you when no one knows what we are! Besides it's like killing two birds with a stone, you will be my secret mate while your sister will be my trophy mate." He grinned from ear to ear like an i***t and I felt like kicking him down there. "Stay away from me Blake, I won't agree to any of that!" I refused while trying to create enough space between us as he stayed within close proximity. "I never asked for your consent mate!" With that, he lowered his head aiming for my lips. "Stop!" Someone yelled just before I could do anything and I looked up to see a furious Layla. He looked shocked to see her here and immediately detached himself from me. "You bastard!" She yelled and threw me a slap. "You thief, you w***e!" Just why the hell were you seducing him!" She continued rambling on as she threw slaps at me. I clenched my fists tightly trying to prevent myself from doing something that I might regret. "Stay away from him Aspen, he is mine now!" She threw me a deathly glare as she grabbed my chin with her claws. I took a hold of her hands and glared back at him. "He is my mate Layla but you can very well have him, since you and your mother has this habit of convet others people things!" "Shut the f**k off and don't you dare mention my mother's name in this!" "Fine! Fine! I'm just wondering why you dared to make a false announcement about being mates even though you both are not." "Do you think a mere mate bound is going to stop me from marrying Blake and becoming the Luna of this very pack? I'm the only perfect candidate for the position. Besides, we love each other and have both made an agreement to marry even though we are not fated mates!" She narrowed her eyes at me as she spoke. It felt she was sending thousands of ice shards straight into my skull. "Now Blake be a darling and reject this mutt at this very instant!" She ordered placing her hand on his chest. "I, Blake Smith of the Raven pack, reject you Aspen Creek, former daughter of the beta of the Raven pack as my future mate and Luna!"
