Five minutes later, Ethan frowned as he looked down at Lawrence's underling, who was trembling and begging on the ground. He bowed his head, deep in thought.
After interrogating the man, Ethan confirmed that Lawrence had come here because a meteorite had fallen in this area three days ago, and he had received this information from the military.
These soldiers were from the unit that had evacuated from the Washinton Safe Zone earlier.
When the apocalypse first hit, society collapsed, and survivors who fled the cities established various refuges outside the military safe zones.
Although these refuges were far smaller than the military safe zones, they were at least away from the hordes of zombies in the cities and managed to survive.
The refuge where Lawrence and his people were from was called Steel Haven.
Steel Haven was originally an industrial area on the outskirts of Washinton. After the zombie virus outbreak, it was occupied by several groups and grew to accommodate tens of thousands of survivors.
"So you're saying that after discovering a meteorite had fallen here, the military sent soldiers to find you? They wanted you to help collect meteorite fragments? How many of them were there? How far is the military's new safe zone from here?"
Ethan asked coldly, a flash of killing intent in his eyes.
He could barely contain his murderous rage upon learning that the Washinton military had appeared in Steel Haven. Unable to imagine the tortures Anna might be enduring, he just wanted to find those bastards and rescue her as quickly as possible.
"Yes, sir," Bryn Smith swallowed hard.
"The Washinton military didn't just contact us. They put out bounties to several refuges in the area. You know how important those fragments are. They even offered a ten-ton food reward to find them."
Bryn's mouth watered as he mentioned the ten tons of food, clearly shocked by the amount.
The virus had been raging for almost a year, and food had become incredibly precious. It was no exaggeration to say that a loaf of bread was worth $100,000 right now. Survivors fought to the death over food.
Ten tons of food was enough to drive countless survivors mad.
"As for how far it is... I don't know. We're not important enough to know that stuff."
"Only two or three military personnel showed up in Steel Haven. They didn't stay long. I heard they were looking on their own too, but I don't know if they found anything.
"If you want to contact them, maybe you could try Steel Haven's leader, Steel Wolf. He has a radio that can reach the military."
Bryn didn't dare look at Ethan as he answered shakily.
He really didn't know where the Washinton military had rebuilt their safe zone. He only knew that these people seemed to have contacted military units in other areas and re-established a more powerful safe zone at some military base.
The military used to take in survivors and protect citizens, but as mutants among the zombies became increasingly common, they had long abandoned their duties and no longer cared about civilian survival.
If it weren't for the meteorite falling nearby, the military wouldn't have shown up at all.
"Three or four of them... location unknown..."
After hearing the answer, Ethan silently clenched his fists, making up his mind.
Felix, Wendy, and the others must be in the new safe zone. With no satellites or internet, the only way to find it in the vast Amerio was through Steel Wolf to locate these departed soldiers.
If he could capture just one, he could force them to reveal the safe zone's coordinates.
So...
Ethan raised his head, his eyes silently looking in the direction of Steel Haven.
He had never been to Steel Haven, but just from seeing Lawrence and his men, he could tell this refuge called Steel Haven was probably an extremely chaotic apocalyptic city.
Seeing Ethan's interest in Steel Haven, Bryn looked at him ingratiatingly.
"Mr. Whitman, I know a lot about Steel Haven, and I know Steel Wolf too. If you spare me, I'm willing to follow you. Steel Haven is dangerous; it's hell for the weak, but heaven for the strong.
"That bastard Lawrence has hidden quite a bit of stuff in the refuge. If you agree, it's all yours. Then you can have any kind of woman you want."
Bryn nervously tested the waters, then flashed a fawning smile.
In the apocalyptic world, might made right. Their boss was already dead, so he didn't mind following Ethan. He was willing to do anything to stay alive.
However, before Bryn could say more, Ethan raised his head slightly and suddenly smiled.
"Follow me as your leader?"
Pffft!
Almost without giving Bryn time to react, Ethan ended his life with one knife stroke.
Faced with Bryn's disbelieving eyes as he died, Ethan calmly pulled out the short knife and wiped the blood off.
After being betrayed once, he no longer wanted to trust anyone. Although these thugs knew many things, they had no loyalty. They only wanted to join him to save their own lives. Once taken to the refuge, they would certainly look for a chance to betray him.
Although Wendy had betrayed him, one thing she had said was right: "Kind-hearted people are not suited to survive in the apocalyptic world."
For Anna's sake, for revenge, he absolutely couldn't make the same mistake twice.
Standing up, Ethan slowly walked out of the vehicle. Just as he was about to go find Rina, the crowd in the distance saw him emerge and started to gather around him.
Among those approaching, a stocky middle-aged man who looked honest was following nervously behind Rina, as if he had something to say.
