"Your mother is crazy, Prosepene" My best friend grumbled, pacing back and forth in my spacious chamber, "How could she send you into a mission like that?" She asked, shaking her head to herself, balling her fists at her sides.
I decided to tell the only person I trust after my father and Nicholas about what happened with my mother and how she used her cards right to get me all riled up to agree to her plan. Like she always does and I fell right into that trap again.
My best friend wasn't so pleased to hear this, of course.
I let out a tired breath, "You know how she is Fiona. It is not like we expect her suddenly love me" I said, springing up from the bed and walking towards her to stop her from pacing around.
I grabbed her elbow and she did stop pacing only to glower at me, "Still, you have been nothing but kind to her. I wonder when she will start appreciating you" She yanked her arm away from my grip, "At the rate, this is going, maybe that day would never come"
I masked my face, "I don't bother about that anymore" I said and Fiona stared at me pointedly, "Well, maybe a little but my expectation has declined drastically over the last few years. It will take a miracle for her to accept me as her daughter" I sighed, shrugging.
Fiona let out a noise of frustration, "Ugh, I don't want to talk about her anymore. It is making my brain get fried" She grumbled, "When are you leaving for the earth? And before you say no, I just want to say I am coming with you no matter what you say" She said the firm, not leaving any space for arguments.
I shook my head at her even though I know in the end she will tag along with me no matter what, "It is dangerous, Fiona" I reminded her. I didn't want to put her in danger as well.
But of course, Fiona has other plans."Relax, I can make use of myself there" She said, flicking her hair away from her face dramatically, "Besides, I miss the earth as well. I can't wait to have- what humans call it? yeah! I can't wait to have a vacation!" She grinned and how could I say no to such a face?
I didn't want to disappoint her, "Fine but promise me that you will be careful all the time okay?" I put my condition forward, "And no interactions with a human male. The last time you did that I had to find you by inhabiting his girlfriend and I am not willing to go through something similar again" I shuddered, thinking about the last time.
The smile on Fiona's face faltered, "Aw, that's no fun, Prosepene!" She complained, stomping her foot on the ground, "I'll flirt with a single man this time. I promise!" She tried to look innocent by batting her eyelashes excessively.
Hah, as if I will fall for that.
I shook my head, not backing down, "And no alcohol! I cannot stand with your drunk self" I groaned. She is the worst when she is drunk. No one can stop her from doing stupid things when she is tipsy.
The smile fully vanished from her beautiful face and she frowned, "Fine. It will be a little less fun vacation but I will take that. Something is better than nothing" She said sadly, hanging her head and looking at me from the corners of her eyes to see if I changed my mind.
"We should pack for the stay then" I nodded my head at her and she looked up fully at me again, "I need some small but handy weapons for this mission" I added walking out of the room, "The ones that can be easily hidden-"
"You never needed weapons before this" Fiona interrupted, "Are Ares and his troops really that dangerous?" She asked, her facial expression serious now.
I stopped dead in my tracks and spun around to face her, "Ssshh" I shushed, "Don't say his name when we are not in the room!" I said, my eyes darting around us to confirm no one was in hearing distance.
She quickly glanced around her to see if anyone heard what she said and then let out a relieved breath when no one didn't, "Sorry" She smiled sheepishly at me.
"But to answer your question, yes he is vicious. If one is smart, then they would stay away from him" I said, turning around to make my way towards my trusted weapon maker in the castle, "I honestly don't think this is going to end well" I muttered under my breath to myself.
"Don't worry, Caenis will come up with really cool weapons for you" I heard Fiona say from behind me, "And for me" She added, sounding a little unsure.
Yep, I was planning on getting her some handy weapons to protect herself if things didn't go as we planned anyway, "Yeah, for you too"
I heard a squeal from behind me and I rolled my eyes at that. Sometimes she behaved like a small child. I wonder how I became friends with her in the first place.
Eventually, we made it to the east wing of the castle where Caenis, the weapon maker resided. He could make any weapon literally out of nothing and it will only take him a few hours at the most, "Caenis, are you in there?" I knocked on his door and waited for a few seconds, anticipating his reply.
"Maybe he is not in there," Fiona said.
"Caenis?" I tried one more time.
The door flew open and Caenis stepped out of the room, wearing casual clothes, "Goddess Persephone!" He exclaimed, "Madamme Fiona" He greeted my best friend before looking at me again, "Why are you ladies here? I wasn't expecting a visit from you two" He said, opening the door wider so we can walk into his room.
As expected, there was a lot of metal stuff on the ground here and there, basically everywhere. I guess it is true when I heard people say that Caenis sleeps with his weapon-making tools, "Desperate time, desperate measures, Caenis" I said turning around to look at him again, "I need you to make something for me"
His lips curved into a sly smirk, "Tell me how you want it and I will exactly make it like that for you"
I smiled back at him, "It needs to be small, handy, and lethal" I smirked.
Caenis grinned, "Consider it as done," He said.
"Make two of it, please" Fiona butted in.
Caenis looked at her warily before shifting his gaze to me, "Yeah, make it two" I confirmed.
Caenis nodded his head, his eyes darting between me and Fiona skeptically, "May I ask why you're suddenly in dire need of such a weapon?" He asked me, "You do know I have to report to the God of the Underworld why I made that weapon right?"
I sighed, "I am planning on visiting the earth in a few days so it is just a precautionary step" I shrugged. It was the truth anyway. Only it is a small fragment of it but still, it counts.
Caenis didn't look satisfied with my answer but nodded his head at me, "Okay, you can come and pick up your weapons in three hours. Don't worry, I will teach them how to use it"
"We would really appreciate that" I smiled at him for one more time. The last thing I want to do is to carry a weapon that I don't know how to use, "If that's all, we will take our leave" I said before exiting his room.
Fiona followed me hot on my heels, "That was easier than I thought" She said, "I wonder if he would make weapons to anyone in the castle"
I shook my head at her, "He wouldn't" I said, "He was created to make weapons for my father and his family. Not for any outsiders" I said as we made our way back to my room, "Are you really sure you want to come?" I asked, glancing behind my shoulders to look at her.
Fiona nodded her head without thinking twice, "Yes" She said.
I hummed under my breath, "Okay if that's what you want-Oh ops!" I gasped when I collided with someone else in front of me as I was looking behind Fiona, "Oh my goodness, I am so sorry!" I apologized when the person caught me in their arms and balanced me back on my feet.
I looked up to see who my savior was and blushed when I realized it was my crush, "Alexandros" I said, "Thank you for not letting me fall straight on my face and I thought you were still in Galileo " I added when he gently let go of me.
Alexandros is a close companion of my father. I have been watching him since I was small and the way he treated me, the way he played with me when I was younger made me unconsciously get attracted to him but of course, no one else knows about this. Not even Fiona.
I can't have Alexandros anyway. I know he only sees me as a little girl.
"Prosepene!" Alexandros exclaimed, his eyes brightening at the sight of me as he gave me a scan over from the top of my head to my toes, "How long it has been! Look at you, you're not a little girl anymore!"
That only made the blush on my face darken, "Well, you were not here for two years so I'm bound to grow up, don't you think?" I said, flicking my hair from my shoulders, "When did you get here anyway?"
"Just now" He shrugged, his eyes flickering past me, "Is that Fiona? You are all grown too!"
"It is nice to see you again, Alexandros" I heard Fiona say and I didn't have to look to know she was blushing like me as well. We couldn't help it, not any women could. Alexandros is a dashing, handsome man who is nothing but nice.
Alexandros smiled at Fiona before looking at me again, "Alright, I will catch up with you later. I have to see Hades right now" He sighed, his facial expression hardening just a little.
The smile on my face faltered, "Why? Is something wrong?" I asked, worry evident in my voice.
Alexandros looked at me for a few fleeting seconds, debating if he should tell me the reason behind his sudden visit to my father, "No everything is good. I'll see you in a while" He said before striding away from there, leaving me blinking.
Something is definitely wrong then. Alexandros never behaved like this before.
My thoughts came to halt when I heard Fiona's wistful sigh, "I wonder when he is planning to get married. He can't keep single girls hopeful anymore"
I couldn't help but chuckle at that. She was right. If he gets married then we all will see him as a married man and wouldn't feel so attracted to him, "As far as I know, I don't think that will happen anytime soon" I grinned as I started walking again.
"Maybe we will find our soulmate before he does" Fiona picked up her pace to keep up with me, "I mean, most of the people our age on this planet met their soulmates already"
"I don't know if I have a soulmate, Fiona" I shook my head, "Unlike you, I wasn't born. I was created so I don't know if all that soulmate thing works on me" I sighed. Although it would be nice to love someone who was specially destined to be with me, I know the chances of it happening is little. Therefore, I didn't let myself hope.
"God Hades created you just like us, Prosepene," Fiona said, "You can't deny you have feelings as well. You can fall in love too, you know"
Yes, I know that but that will happen when it happens, right now I have to give my full attention to the god of the war who has an unquenchable thirst for conflicts, "Falling in love is the least of my concern now, Fiona. I have to make my father proud. I want him to feel glad that he created me" I said. That's the goal in my life.
"I am sure he already felt that way," She said sarcastically.
Yes, my father told me himself he was glad and proud that he created me but it doesn't feel enough for me yet. I want to keep hearing those words but of course, Fiona wouldn't understand it even if I explained it to her.
No one can but myself.
It is how I show my gratitude to him. It is how I show him I am not a waste of his time and hard work.
"Hmm, okay, you and I will argue with each other if we continue this. If I meant to fall in love someday then I will. Today, we have to get you ready for my upcoming mission and plan everything accordingly so we can me make out alive"
We entered my room and I shut the door quietly after Fiona stepped in, "Ooh, sounds dangerous already. I like it though" She said, "What are you going to teach me?" She asked excitedly.
I grinned at her, "You will know" I said, "A plan is already in my head and you are in it too even though it is dangerous. You will be a distraction when I talk to this guy" I said, "You know I have touched him to inhabit his body and I don't think this man will simply let anyone put their hands on him"
Mirth and mischief danced in her fox-like eyes, "Am I going to seduce him?" She asked with a witchy smile on her lips.
I chuckled and shook my head, "No. I am going to seduce him" I said, making her eyes widen in shock.
