CHAPTER FOURTEEN Craig and Carter Thompson sat across the table, wearing matching expressions—equal part contemptuous but also nervous. Ilse watched where Craig’s fingers tap-tap tapped against the surface of the the table. Handcuffs rattled. “You have no right to keep us here!” Mr. Thompson snapped, waving a long finger. His son slouched in the seat next to him, scowling at the table. Ilse settled in the chair facing the two suspects. Sawyer was already leaning back, his feet on the metal surface, crossed, his arms similarly wrapped over his thin frame. He eyed the two men with hooded eyes.
