CHAPTER ELEVEN Night had fallen now. Though perhaps it was more accurate to say it collapsed. And the resounding silence of its tumble was still reverberating around the small school building, facing the soccer field. Ilse and Sawyer stood on the edge the grass, under the night sky, staring in the direction of the goalpost. Both of Sawyer’s hands were bunched into fists. Ilse had tears in her eyes. She was reminded of her own sister. Reminded of how things ended. “I hate him,” Sawyer murmured, staring at the goalposts. Flashing lights of red and blue streaked the sky.
