Deciding to quickly check the weather. she walked to the window and moved the heavy drape back just a fraction of an inch. That was nearly too much, as she almost fell backward from the feral photons’ assault on her hungover eyes. But the brightness and the quiet indicated the storm had passed, so she felt sure she could venture out without protective garments. Well, there’d be at least one protective item—she decided to wear her glasses today, with their self-darkening lenses, rather than her contacts.
