Into the iris

Chapter 2: Unwanted visitor

Birds chirping was the first thing I could hear,my eyes are closed and my head hurts. Now my back hurts like it has been hit by a rock,am sure that's what exactly happened.

    "Are you sure she is alive?" A soft feminine voice whom I was sure was above me asked no one in particular,at least not anyone I can see because my eyes are closed.

   "You don't even know who she is,we will be in so much trouble.We have to leave but it gets dark." Another voice answered and its definitely a boy's,with  the massive pain that filled my body and I managed to  shift my body to the side with a low groan.

      I slowly opened my eyes and a pair of hazel eyes stared back at me. Her dark ginger hair shield my face from the bright light,she smiled at me still observing my face.

   "Are you okay?, look Javi she isn't died." She slowly lifted my back from the ground and I let out a low groan ." You don't look good,does it hurt that bad?."

   " Well I don't feel good,it's like i was thrown on a rock. That's definitely what happened." I responded still groaning while trying to stretch my body,the path I sat on was very rocky. And a boy who stood few  feet from us (me and hazel girl)  was just staring at me. He is tall,broad shoulders and has the same eyes and hair as hazel eyes. Maybe they are siblings,I know it's a wild guess .

        "Javi." The girl turned to look at the boy ( well not typically a boy ,more like a man,guy, dude. Whatever I can swear on my mother's grave that he is just a few years older). "Come help her,she is in pain." Mr broad shoulders was still staring at me like he is trying to figure me out,too bad I was trying to do the same. Guess people at the requads have trust issues,oh wait!!! I am in the requads. I don't even remember what pushed or pulled me here.

  "Is this the requads?,are you two here to come get me?." The boy stared in front of me and glared at me like was talking nonsense. Wait a minute?, doesn't he have a clue what is going on?.

   "I don't know what you are talking about, just as much as I don't know who you are."He placed his hands on my shoulder,kept whispering something I couldn't process

    "What are you doing?." Before I reach get his hands from my shoulder,he yanked my hands back to my side.

  "Hold still,i don't have all day." He continues his low chant and I felt my blood boil,this might actually sound crazy but yes it's boiling and I struggled  and he let go of my shoulder. I felt lifeless and empty,I manage to lift myself off the ground and I  don't know what happened next.

     The sweet smell of meat, whatever meat it is would definitely stop my stomach from making sounds. Then it hit me,am in a room on a very nice bed and I can't help but wonder who is trying to steal my heart with this mouth watering aromas. I lift myself off the bed, the yellow paint on the wall appears to be faded and quite full but the room was quite neat and tidy.

   "What just happened?" I thought as I walked across the room barefooted and i have never felt as good as this in a while,you know that feeling you have after getting a relaxing massage. Yeah that's me,I swiftly moved out of the room but stopped on my tracks due to the voices from the other room.

  "Javi, she could hear you and stop being a brut."There she stood,miss hazel eyes arms folded and frowning at her brother.

"Does it look like i care?,no.You don't just pick strangers and decide to bring them into the house,you know we only have two days to get moving." Javi pratically yelled back at the girl.yeah,i was able to grab the name at the path.

  "We couldn't just leave her there, what do you think would happen if those rogues found her there or worse the vorxes." Silence filled the room ,then I finally realized that I wasn't needed here at all. I took a few steps backwards, agreeing to come here was a huge mistake but who was I kidding . It's plain as day that I came here against my own will,I had no choice.

    I didn't realize that something was behind me till I suddenly missed a step and my butt hit the ground. The two hazel eyes came rushing towards me and the girl smiles at me.

   "Oh!!,you are awake.i was afraid something bad happened to you." She extended a hand and lift me off the ground.i used my hands to wipe the invisible dust off my butt ,eyes on Javi.

  "How do you feel?" She asked again with genuine worried look.

  "Am good, better I have not felt like this in years. Thank you for saving my life,but where am I?." Hazel eyes lead me to a wooden chair and grabbed a cup of water on the table. She handed it to me and urge me to drink.

    I took cup and drank all the water in the cup secretly staring at Javi , he leaned on the wall right behind hazel eyes glaring at me. Am sure he knows i heard everything he said.

  "You are in Vauldeen the South Iris,me and my brother were on our way back from work when we saw you lying unconscious on the road. Where you attacked?."what is Vauldeen?, before I could bring up courage to answer her and ask multiple questions.my eyes moved towards Javi,he was expecting an answer from me. 

   "We skipped the introduction, am Yasmin. Am from brimsdame." I took in a deep breath then added "Am also the princess of brimsdame."

  "You have got to be kidding me." Behind the hazel eyes,Javi stared at me as if I was saying total nonsense.

  "Javi……. Okay,my name is Chantelle and that is my twin brother Javi. Okay ,do you know how you got here?." How can these two be twins?, from what am seeing they are nothing alike.

   "I was sent here by my father…."

  "The king?" Javi asked as he secretly mocked my predicament,I couldn't help but frown to the fact that he is enjoying my dreadful state.

 "Yes,the king." Javi moved closer to me while one side of his lips curled up ,he is definitely having fun. He bent his face to my level and his eyes pierced into me as if trying to read me.

  "How why would your father the king send you here?." Still glaring at me like a criminal,l can't help but wonder what he's up to. And how did he expect me to answer his question while attacking me with those eyes and up close I find it unusual that he smells of smoke,am not kidding he really smells like wood smoke.

    "Look,all I know is my father sent me to the requads to access my powers because I don't have one and he said I should make myself useful. I don't know what Vauldeen is but i was told to go to the East iris to learn and on my way,I was pushed or maybe pulled…" He still stared indifferently at me,yet I continued " I was sucked into something and I ended up here feeling like i was swept in here by a tornado."

     Javi moved back and he swiftly sat opposite to me ,his eyes moved from Chantelle to me in slow motion. I think he understands me now, Chantelle sat quietly trying to process what I said.

   "Yasmin,we are also going to the east iris in two days. Don't mind my brother,he is just being precautious. You need to have something to eat,after you blackout i was worried Javi killed you. Come,I made you dinner."Javi watched as we moved into the room and he sat there probably thinking of how to get rid of me.

     Away from the south iris was a cloaked woman in raven black sat with the Duke for a quick discussion,seems the thing they all feared is slowly happening. Duke Bennett is a tall man with red eyes,dark hair with laid back,his reserved demeanor was respected in all of Irises. He has been ruling these parts for a long time and it seems to please the queen.

   "Are you sure about this?,you know the the girl might have made it all up."The Duke was having doubts about what he just heard, how can a unknown force get into Vauldeen without a single crystal ball identifying who it is,it makes no sense.

  "It's true milord, for the past week we have been checking but no sign of this force.You know the deer doesn't lie,I think the word is about to be told. And the queen would not be happy with the situation." Her face was filled with absolute grimace,the thought of what the queen would do when she hears the news is chaos.

    "This is strange.But why now,we have been waiting for this for years?", the Duke wondered.

   "What should we do milord?, how are we supposed to take down something we can't see or identify?.it's like searching for a pin in an ocean."The cloaked woman said in total outburst, she isn't ready to appear before the queen with what they both discovered.

   "Who else knows about this?"

   "Apart from the two of us,the girl. Thats all."

  " Good and it must stay that way. You are not to inform the queen about this, stay low and wait for my call."The woman was taken aback by the Duke's word,she couldn't help but wonder what the Duke is up to.

   "Do you have a way around this milord?, what if the queen finds out about this?."

   " She wouldn't because you are not telling her. Just do as you are told,i think i know where this strange force is going to."The woman's eyes widen,she was right about the Duke.He did have a plan, and it baffles her how he could figure it out in such a short period of time.

   "Where is it g……" before she could finish,she was cut short by the red eye Duke.

   "I won't repeat my orders to you, just stay quiet and keep your ears open." The woman bowed and left the room, the Duke sipped the remaining wine in his glass.

 "The hermacade uhnn,it's about time."The duke smiled at his thoughts, what would a force like this be looking for in the hermacade?.Why now?.That's a question even the Duke has no answers to but he definitely has to figure it out before the queen figures out that the Iris has an unwanted visitor.

    A day has passed since I arrived in "Vauldeen" as Chantelle called it. At least am thankful that am not lost,or died.Javi has been around still glaring at me but no word worth exchange,but his darling sister has been a sweetheart to me. She really took time in explaining alot to me, and it's helpful for me.

     Here is by far what I know, there are four part of the Iris. South is Vauldeen which we currently are while east is the Arem and that's where we are going to,she calls it the hermacade. Garvelle is west and ivory is north, and surprisingly the requads …. sorry…Iris has a queen. Queen Anne Marie rules the Iris splitting power to four dukes ,it's just like a regular separation of power but the queen calls the shots. Must be some killer ass queen to have such power.

     Okay so,no technology,no phones and no cars but that's just it.She also talked about how she was born in Vauldeen but her parents died due to their failure to pass the exams,I can't help but feel scared on hearing that if I don't pass the exams I would die. Which means I can get back home, and i perish.

    Just one day left for us to embark on our journey to the east,i really miss Vee. I miss my her invasion of my thoughts,I wonder when I will see her again.Telle sometimes reminds me of Vee, always having something to talk about.

   Me and Telle sat on the wooden chair after dinner talking about anything and everything. Then I got curious.

   "Why was my blood boiling when your brother touched me?",Telle just smiled as she combed her ginger hair.

   "Boil?….oh he was healing you.I am sure it must have hurt,my brother and i are witches.But his element is healing but he has to learn to improve his element that's why we have to go to the hermacade".I nodded in approval, so that's why he is going to the school but that doesn't explain why he is grumpy.

   "So what about you?."I asked,as I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.

  "Am a typical witch,i cast spells.i only know few spells,but I need to go to the hermacade and learn as much as I can."Determination filled her eyes,I could see that she wants this. This made me question what I want.

   "Thank God you are the spell witch" Telle chuckled and arched a brow in question.

   "Cause am sure if your brother was the spell witch,he would have turned me to a bird and make me fly as far away as possible."We both laughed aloud,i  am sure Javi wouldn't think twice about doing just that.

   "You know my brother isn't as horrible as that,it just that sometimes he is really mean.you would get used to it Yasmin"

" I hope,and it's Yas."

      We spent a couple of hours talking till we decided to call it a night and head to bed.i laid on the bed wondering what's gonna happen next.
