Calie chose to remain in the hospital to regain her strength. Everyday her parents would visit her, and keep her company and sometimes it’s her siblings and friends. She also receives flowers from different pack member and coven members with wishes of her getting well.
She felt all the love from everyone that she somehow felt like she’s not alone. But the pain of losing her mate remains. Every time her son Ivan would visit her, she would look into his face and tear up. Ivan looked exactly like her mate, and she knows he will grow up to be a charmer just like his father.
Calie was pulled out her train of thoughts when she heard a knock on the door.
“Come in.”She said.
The door opened and her best friend and niece Zari came in.
Zari was more or less five years older than her, but she’s the closest figure she had for a best friend as she grows up.
“Zari.”
Zari came in and closed the door behind her. She walked towards the Calie’s bed and sat on the chair. Calie noticed that her niece looked down; she also notices how her eyes were puffy from crying.
“What’s wrong?”Calie asked.
Zari lowered her head and then her shoulders began to shake, she was crying.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry Calie.”Zari cried.
Calie was confused.
“Why are you sorry?”Calie asked.
Zari looked up to Calie.
“I’m sorry. I should’ve told you or Uncle Creon. I should’ve told someone else but I didn’t.”Zari cried.
“What do you mean?”Calie asked.
Zari grabbed Calie’s hand, and sniffled.
“O-On your w-wedding day, I saw something.”Zari started, and Calie furrowed her eyebrows.
“What did you see?”Calie asked.
“I saw Ian’s future and it was short. I-I just told him he had a short line, that he has to use it well with you.”Zari said, and Calie was taken back.
“What?”
“I know he’s not going to last long. I know he’s going to die. I’m sorry I should’ve told you or Uncle Creon. I should’ve done something to prevent everything. I’m so sorry.”Zari cried.
A lone tear fell from Calie’s eye, and then she huffed.
“You are right. You should’ve told me so I should’ve taken care of him more.”Calie paused, and Zari cried louder.
Tears rolled down Calie’s cheek and she looked down on the pendant of her necklace. It was the one she has given Ian on their wedding day.
“Ian is a strong-willed person. If he decided on something, no one and nothing can make him change his mind. He also has his own beliefs that I dare not to question, as he was with ours.”Calie paused, and wiped her tears.
“I think even if you told me, none of it mattered since he didn’t want to be saved.”Calie said squeezing Zari’s hand tight.
“I’m so sorry...”Zari continued to cry.
“You did nothing wrong.”Calie said.
“But I didn’t tell you. I should’ve told you. I shouldn’t have kept quiet.”Zari said.
Calie looked at Zari and patted her head softly.
“By not telling me, you actually saved me a few years of agony. Because I didn’t know, I enjoyed those years with my mate without any thoughts of doom. Those years were short but it was treasured.”Calie said.
Zari cried harder, but Calie just pulled her in a hug.

After Calie talked to Zari, Calie decided to walk towards her hospital room’s balcony. The view was calming since she can watch the trees sway along with the wind. She does miss seeing the calming views around Stone Castle but she got used to the buzzing streets in Seattle.
Calie cried once again, as she misses her mate so much. She misses how Ian would run his fingers through her white hair. He would always comment on how strange it is for her to have white hair when her whole family has dark hair. It intrigued him but he loved it about her.
Calie hugged herself imagining her mate’s warm arms as she cries.
“Ian why do you have to leave me just like that?”Calie cried.
Unknown to her, Liam and Camilla was just outside her room listening to her cries. Liam hugged his mate as she began to weep for her daughter.
“What should we do to help her?”Camilla asked Liam.
“We just need to be there for her baby.”Liam answered as he hugged his mate tight.
Losing a mate is the most painful thing for a wolf, and Liam was grateful that he didn’t experience such pain. But it still hurts him to see his youngest daughter experience that pain.

A few days later, Creon checked up on Calie’s health and finally cleared his sister.
“You can go home now Calie. But I strongly suggest that you still eat more, more meat for protein. Take your lycan to run in the woods, to stretch out a bit and hunt.”Creon told her sister.
“Will that be wise? To let her out I mean.”Calie asked her brother.
“If you won’t let her out, she’ll force you to shift and it’ll be more painful than your first time shifting.”Creon explained.
“But won’t she be going to attack randomly? She lost her mate.”
Creon stopped whatever he’s writing on the chart and looked at his sister.
“Calie, Cassandra needs to go out. She needs to grieve the way she wants to, and that is to follow her instincts. You just have to trust yourself and your lycan to do the right thing.”Creon told her, and Calie nodded.
“Okay I’ll try and do that.”Calie said.
Creon sighed and cupped Calie’s cheek.
“Remember that you are our baby sister, and we always have your back no matter what.”Creon said, and Calie smiled and nodded.
“We can always join you as you hunt.”
Creon and Calie turned towards the door and there stood the twins Lykos and Lynox. The twins approached their sister and they kissed the top of her head.
“We’re sorry we weren’t able to come here sooner.”Lykos said.
Calie smiled at them with tears brimming around her eyes.
“Aren’t you getting tired of crying baby sister?”Lynox asked, wiping her tears.
“I’m just glad you two are here.”Calie said.
“Don’t worry too much about anything. We are all here for you.”Lykos said.
“That’s true.”Said Alex who just walked inside her room.
“Where is Zab?”Calie asked her eldest brother.
“She’s out with the mercs for mission.”Alex answered and sat on the foot of Calie’s bed.
“She’s still covering up for me.”Calie said.
“Because that’s what big sisters do. And besides she loves being in a mission, so don’t worry about it.”Alex said.
Lynox pushed Alex to move aside so he can sit too.
“You see baby sis, we are all helping you out to be okay. So please be okay.”Lykos said, patting Calie’s head.
“Thank you guys so much, especially to Zab. If she didn’t pull me out that day, if she didn’t challenge me, I would’ve drowned myself in all these sorrow.”Calie said.
“Zab never talked about Alessa, and hearing her say her name that time is just a proof that she cares for you than her own sorrow.”Alex said.
Calie looked down.
“I can’t imagine how she lived all these years without her lycan.”Calie said.
“She has Zari to think of.”Creon said.
“And you have Ivan to think of too. That boy is still young, but he’s fully aware that his father is gone.”Lykos said.
“He’s also aware that you are in pain. Did you know that he would sometimes guard your bedroom door and make sure that no one will disturb you while you sleep?”Alex told Calie which surprised her.
“H-He did that?”Calie asked, and Alex nodded.
“Zander would sometimes sit with him. And Ivan would say he doesn’t want anyone to disturb your dream because you might see Ian there, and you’ll be less sad.”Alex explained.
Calie cried again when she heard what her son did for her.
“Make sure to thank that boy and from now on, put him first above anything. We are all here around you to support and help you.”Creon said.
Calie cried more and nodded.
“Awww... Group hug!”The twins exclaimed in unison, and then they grabbed Creon and hugged their siblings.
Outside Calie’s hospital room, Camilla silently watches them. She smiled at how bonded her children were. She’s really grateful that they grew up to love each other and have each other’s backs.
Camilla gave her children one last look before she turned around and walked away.

The next day after Calie was discharged from the pack hospital, she went to see her son in the Kindergarten. She was the one who pick him from school.
Ivan was thrilled to see his mother outside his school when he came out of the building.
“Mama!”Ivan exclaimed, and then he ran towards Calie. He jumped unto her and hugged her tight.
Calie closed her eyes and sniffed her son’s scent while they hugged each other. When Calie pulled away, she kissed Ivan’s forehead.
“I’m glad you are out of those wires mama.”Ivan said, kissing Calie’s cheek.
“I miss you mama.”He said.
“And I missed you too baby. I’m sorry if mama wasn’t available these past days.”Calie said as she crouched down her son’s height.
Ivan smiled at his mother.
“That’s okay mama. Papa told me that I should be strong for both of us. He knows you’ll be sad once he’s gone, and it’s my job to take care of you.”Ivan said.
Calie had to cover her mouth as she cries with what her son said. Ivan frowned and wiped her tears.
“Please don’t be sad. I promised papa not to make you sad.”Ivan said.
“I am not that sad anymore baby. I am actually happy because papa gave me you. You are my greatest treasure and I am happy as long as you are happy. Thank you so much for everything baby.”Calie told him.
Ivan gave his mother one of his toothy grins.
“How was your new school? Did any of them give you a hard time?”Calie asked, and Ivan shook his head.
“They are all nice mama. Some of them are like me with no papa, while some have no mama and papa.”Ivan answered.
Calie looked towards the kindergarten building. It was the same kindergarten where orphans go to. She noticed the orphaned pups gathered around one woman. And by the look on the woman, it looks like she is still young and cannot get the hang of volunteer work.
Calie wiped her face and stood up.
“Baby, who is that woman there?”Calie asked Ivan pointing towards the woman.
Ivan turned around and looked towards where his mother is pointing at.
“That’s Miss Kelly. She’s the volunteer who take care of those kids.”Ivan said.
“Was she nice?”She asked again.
“Yes mama.”
Calie looked down to her son and smiled.
“That’s good. Come on, I’m treating you ice cream.”Calie said.
“Yey!”
Calie grabbed Ivan’s hand and led him towards her car. She drove towards the downtown to eat ice cream.
********************************.
The next day, Calie made a visit to the pack’s orphanage. She immediately went towards the one in-charge of the orphanage, none other than Shiela the former beta female of her father’s pack.
Shiela was surprised to see the youngest princess visit her office.
“Calina what a surprise!”Shiela exclaimed.
“Hi aunt Shiela.”Calie greets her.
“Come on take a sit.”Shiela said.
Calie sat on the chair in front of Shiela’s desk.
“So why are you here?”Shiela asked.
Calie heaved a deep sigh.
“Yesterday I saw your volunteer having a hard time with the orphans at school.”Calie said.
“Oh yeah. I only have one person to do the volunteer work. “Shiela said.
“Why is that?”
“Some found their mates and left Stone castle, while the others got better job opportunities.”Shiela answered.
“Who was your last volunteer?”Calie asked.
”That was Kelly Bourn. She only turned twenty and she just lost her mate.”Shiela said slowly gauging Calie’s reaction.
“She lost her mate?”Calie asked and Shiela nodded.
“Like you, her mate was human. She just found him when she turned eighteen. He’s a bowling attendant in the outskirts of the territory when Kelly found him.”Shiela said.
Calie swallowed the lump in her throat.
“H-How did h-her mate die?”Calie asked lowly.
Shiela knew how hard for Calie to talk about it but she’s still willing to listen, so she answered.
“One night a few months ago, there was some sort of fight between two groups of teenagers, all humans. Jeff is just one of the people trying to stop the fight but one guy pulled out a gun and shot Jeff in the chest and head.”Shiela said.
Calie gasped.
“H-How did Kelly take it?”
“Kelly was with the kids in their field trip when it happened. She was in a middle of a joyous event when she felt her mate’s life fade away. She cannot cry since she doesn’t want to make the kids sad. She kept it to herself until she got home.”Shiela answered.
Calie leaned back to her chair, as all the information she heard sinks in. That girl lost her mate without her beside him, and yet she continued her life.
“She continued to do the volunteer work so she won’t get depressed. Also they have a one year old baby girl, so she tried to fight the loneliness everyday for her daughter.”Shiela said.
Calie looked down on her hand.
“She’s stronger than me.”Calie said, and Shiela sighed.
“Kelly has no choice but to be strong. She has no family to turn to, since she was an orphan too. It’s just her and baby Juliene.”Shiela explained.
“She cannot handle everything with the volunteer work when it’s just her.”Calie said.
“Yes that’s why put up a few invitations for those who wanted to do volunteer work –“
“Count me in.”Calie cut off Shiela who stared at her.
“What?”
“I’ll do the volunteer work with her.”
