In Front of the Council

“How was your date with Zack?”Calie asked Kelly as soon as they entered the basement.

  Calie couldn’t help but ask since Kelly was smiling widely the moment she arrived.

“It was amazing. He’s really funny and so easy to talk to. And the feeling of just being with him was just pure amazing.”Kelly said with the love-struck look in her face.

“Figures, your smile is so wide I’m afraid your face will rip.”Calie said looking through the wide array of weapons.

“Well I had fun that –“

  Kelly was cut off when Calie threw a machete towards her, but good thing she was able to dodge it just in time.

“Hey!”

“You’re senses coordinated well with your speed. That’s great.”Calie said, and then she began throwing daggers towards Kelly.

  Kelly dodged every dagger, and she managed to caught few and threw it back to Calie who dodged it as well. Kelly’s training went on and Calie intensified it as the day of presentation is getting near.

  On the day of the said presentation, Kelly was so nervous in the room provided for her in the council building. The room was provided for every recruit to get ready for the presentation.

  Calie came to her room as she helped Kelly get into her gear.

“I’m so nervous.”Kelly whispered, zipping up her vest.

“That’s understandable. Every recruit for the Elites had a hard time during the presentation. Some even ended up in the infirmary for a few days because of how brutal their presentation was.”Calie said, and Kelly scowled at the white haired princess.

“If this is your idea of pep talk, it’s not working. You suck at it.”Kelly said.

  Calie chuckled.

“The more you have to do well. There’s only one person who managed to get into the Elites without going through so much training, and council presentation.”Calie said.

“Let me guess, you?”Kelly asked, with her eyebrows arched.

  Calie smiled at her and shook her head.

“Nope. It was Zack.”She said, and Kelly gaped at her.

“What? How? Why?”

“Zack was specifically handpicked when he helped the Elites with the problem with the Moonwalkers. It was Alex who brought him here in Stone castle.”Calie said.

“Wow. He’s that good?”Kelly asked.

“He’s a great warrior, but he wasn’t trained well. He was thrown into war in a whim. And it made the council impressed by his skills.”Calie answered.

“Wow.”

“I know you can make through this selection. I have faith in you and your skills.”Calie said.

  As Kelly gets ready, Zack came in the room.

“I’ll leave the two of you. Since I know Zack is better with pep talks.”Calie said and winked at the pair.

  As soon as Calie closed the door behind her, Zack approached Kelly and without any word he hugged her.

“Please be careful out there. The presentation and selection can be very brutal. But if recruits survive it, they can survive any mission given to them.”Zack said, and then he pulled away from Kelly.

“Lucky you, you didn’t went through this.”Kelly said, and Zack nodded.

“Yes I didn’t, but I went through a real life and death situation when I was thrown into the war. If I didn’t do well that time, I wouldn’t be standing here in front of my beautiful mate.”Zack said.

  Kelly smiled at Zack.

“Well you do well with pep talks unlike Calie.”Kelly said and Zack chuckled.

“It runs in their family.”

  When it was Kelly’s time to enter the challenge or what they called presentation, she was in a very dark room. Kelly clenched her fist as she walk further into the room. 

  The whole room is dark but she can hear and smell her surroundings well. When she heard something coming from her right, she draws her sword and it was just in time to stop a huge blade aimed at her. The room illuminated and the whole room looked like a maze.

  She continued walking and every turn she takes there was either a mechanical blade coming at her, which she either dodged or destroyed it. Her path was field with booby traps that if she’s not aware enough of her surroundings, she probably be dead. It was like a death defying obstacle course, that in one wrong move you’re dead.

  Then in another turn, a huge wolf came at her and she successfully dodged the swift attack.

  Kelly leaped over the wolf and kicked the back of its head, before she run away from it. The wolf chased her and leaped towards her, but Kelly suddenly halts and she slid under the wolf and kicked its belly, and threw it towards the wall. Kelly ran away and continued to navigate the said maze, and rogue wolves continued to pop out every turn she makes.

  She shifted to her wolf and was able to dodge their attacks and kill them, ripping their throats out. When she shifts back to human, Kelly was amazed that the clothes she was wearing was still intact.

“Wicked.”She mumbled and continued her way along the maze.

   Kelly was panting as she ran. She’s getting tired, and it only means one thing. There’s magic around the maze. According to Calie’s lessons during their training, magic can make an individual tired since it is getting their energy. And the only way to counter act it is to find out where it is coming from or just ran away from it.

  Kelly pushed herself to run as fast as she can, but then as she made a turn a vampire attacked her. In the vampire’s hand was a silver dagger, and he used it and quickly attacked her. The vampire was so fast that it managed to scratch Kelly’s arm with the silver dagger. Kelly winced as she felt her wound sizzle because of the silver.

  Kelly immediately applied what she learned with Calie regarding the silver management. She focused her energy towards the silver in her blood stream and pushes it out. But as she does this, she was attacked by the vampire again. She dodged its attack and she draws her gun from the back of her waist, and quickly shot the vampire.

  As the vampire disintegrates into ashes, the silver sips out of her wound and slowly heals. Kelly pants and wiped the beads of sweat on her forehead.

“This is so tiring. I’m going to eat pizza and ice cream once this is done.”Kelly grumbled and continued to navigate the maze. More vampires attacked her and she used the gun to kill them. But with their speed she has no choice but to fight some of them with her sword since they have weapons of their own.

  When she finally able to get rid of them, she continued her way around the maze.

   As Kelly runs, she suddenly halted her steps when she felt a strong aura coming at her. She side stepped towards the left just in time an energy blast hit the spot where she used to stand. Kelly looked up only to see Calie smirking down at her.

“I’ll be your final exam.”Calie said, then she touched the tattoo on her wrist and a sword appeared in her hand. Calie grips the handle tight and attacked Kelly.

  Kelly immediately held her sword above her head as she protects herself from Calie’s attack. Then she pushed her off as they encircled each other.

“Fight me Kelly.”Calie said and then she attacked Kelly using her wind.

  Kelly immediately ran away from that said attack and then she uses her speed to attack Calie. Kelly sent a roundhouse kick towards Calie, but the white haired princess just caught her leg and then she tossed her to the ground.

  Kelly immediately stood up and dusted herself, and then she attacked Calie with her sword. The two of them are like two people dancing in some kind of music that only they can hear. Both of them put a lot of effort into fighting. Their swords sips out their energy signatures, and the clangs of their swords resonated, making the walls cracked.

  The whole place began to shake because of how intense they fight, sword against sword, elemental power against speed. Kelly panted and then she attacked Calie with all her might. But when she was near enough, Calie sighed and raised her hand, catching the blade of Kelly’s sword.

“I was right to think that you belong with the Elites.”Calie said smiling.

  And then the maze began to disappear, and the room revealed to be a huge dome like colosseum. Kelly looked up to see the Queen and the rest of the council watching them.

“Congratulations Kelly. Welcome to the Elites.”Camilla said, smiling.

  Calie let go of the sword, and patted Kelly’s shoulder.

“Congratulations.”Calie said.

“Kelly Bourn, with your amazing skills and speed and fast critical thinking, you are to join the assassins group.”Philip said.

  Then lady Amara appeared in front of Kelly, smiling.

“Welcome to the Elites, Kelly.”Amara said, and then she grabbed her left wrist.

  Then Amara began to draw something on Kelly’s wrist using her index finger. With a searing pain, Kelly looks at her wrist only to see a tattoo of a symbol appeared on it.

“That is the symbol of the Elites and that also serves as your weapon.”Calie said.

“Cool.”Kelly mumbled.

  And then Zack came running towards Kelly and pulled her in a hug.

“I am so proud of you.”Zack said.

  Kelly sighed in relief and hugged Zack back.
