Quinn walked out of the company doors, confidently. As she began walking towards the bus stop, Jake began to call her. She answered it quickly. She had been messaging him on the way to the interview, letting him know at least her whereabouts, just in case.
“How did the interview go?” Jake asked, his voice calm on the other end.
“It went well, I think. I should be hearing from them within the next day.” Quinn was excited about the idea that she might be getting the job. It seemed that the people in the interview were impressed by her resume’ and work.
“You still in the city?” he asked. Quinn had just arrived at the bus stop and waited.
“I’m currently waiting for the bus. I wanted to try and find a gym closer to home.” She was still shy and not used to the idea that someone was talking to her, still.
“Wait there for me.” Jake spoke sternly before abruptly hanging up. Quinn stared at her phone, confused. Just then, she felt like she was being watched again. She slowly looked around, trying to find out who it was this time. However, when she looked around, she saw several men scattered throughout the crowds and streets around her. They were all wearing black suits and masks, and they were all facing and looking at her. Unease settled into her stomach. Quinn could fight, but she’s not a good enough fighter to take all these people around.
Just as she began to panic, a car pulled up to the bus stop. It was a luxury sports car. When the window rolled down, her eyes widened in shock as she saw who it was: Jake.
“Want a ride?” He asked her, playfully, as if he didn’t notice all the people around her, watching Quinn. She didn’t question him and got in the car quickly. Jake quickly peeled away.
Once they were out of the area, Quinn began to calm down.
“Where did you get the car? How the hell can you afford this?” She asked, curious as to how he got his hands on such an expensive car. He chuckled at her.
“I borrowed it from one of my friends. He said that I can use it to impress you!” He smiled towards her, before focusing on his driving. Quinn was confused.
“How did you know which bus stop I was at?” She was surprised at the idea that Jake knew exactly where she was. She was too smart for his own good.
“Well, you told me that you were going for an interview and that you took the bus. I know the city all too well, so it wasn’t hard to find you.” Jake said, trying to cover up his truth and hope that Quinn would buy it. Even though she was weary about it, Quinn didn’t ask further about it.
She looked in the mirror and saw that there was a black car following them. Jake had noticed them following them and sped up, losing them through the traffic.
When they were pulling into the suburbs, Jake pulling into a gym that was close to the house. Quinn looked at him in shock.
“What?” he replied with a smile on his face. “I figured that if you’re wanting to go, we can go together,” Jake then started getting out of the car, then walked over and opened her side for her. Quinn quickly glanced around her and found the black car across the street. She then got back in the car and closed the door. Jake stood there, shocked and a little uneasy.
He then looked and noticed the car as well. Without making a scene, Jake got back in the car as well, turning to Quinn as soon as the door closed. Her eyes were fixed on the black car outside.
“Who is that?” Jake asked, his gaze turning towards it as well.
“My brother,” Quinn spoke softly, her voice had a tremble. “He gave me a visit this morning when I was walking towards my interview. Luke and my parents are not happy, and he said that he and his friends were going to be keeping an eye on me.”
“Why?” Jake’s voice grew cold, his blue eyes turned dark. He was not happy that someone was wanting to possibly hurt his wife, let alone her own family.
Quinn hesitated. She didn’t want to include Jake in her family issues. Even though it’s his family that they’re wanting to go after, she didn’t want to put that burden on him. Jake turned around when he noticed that she wasn’t saying anything. His expression softened towards her.
“Why are they harassing you?” His voice was deep, and he looked at her as if she wasn’t given a choice of whether to tell. Jake leaned closer, his face mere inches from hers. Quinn’s eyes widened.
“They’re pissed because they haven’t heard from your parents about their end of the deal from us being married.” She nearly whispered. Leaning back, he rubbed his temples.
“Looks like we’re going to be paying them a visit.” Jake sighed as he turned on the car and pulled out of the lot. He drove slowly, making sure that the car was following them. He wanted to get this over with and not deal with his family anymore.
After a while, Quinn broke the silence.
“Where are we going?” She asked. Jake kept his eyes between the road and the rearview mirror. His eyes were still dark, as if he was upset about something.
“We’re going to see my parents. I want them to deal with this s**t between your family and leave you and I out of it. I want no part in my family’s business.” Jake said, harshly.
“Why don’t you have a part in your family?” She asked before she realized it herself. She didn’t want to pry in his business, but curiosity got the best of her. Jake gave her a side glance before continuing toward the road.
“You’ll find out once we get there. They aren’t a fan of me, and I’m not of them.” His tone didn’t change.
They were near the other end of the city, heading towards the most luxurious homes and noble families around. Going through the windy roads up the mountains, Quinn admired the beautiful city from this view. It was still so lively, even as the sun was setting over the ocean.
Jake finally pulled up to a gate with a security officer at the entrance. The officer waved them in, and Jake drove through and towards the house. It was a villa, bigger than what Quinn’s family had. Her eyes widened in awe.
At the top of the staircase that led towards the house, Mr. and Mrs. Lannister stood there, waiting for Jake. He got out of the car, walking over and letting Quinn out as well before turning towards his family.
“Mom, Dad,” Jake said sternly. His parents stood there, looking at Jake as if he were not welcome.
“What bring you here, Jake?”
