There is a little money left from the sale of the house and the furniture when my mother died, but I am only allowed to ask him for that – when I want new shoes or clothes.” She paused for a moment. Then she said, “I suppose, as I have run away, that he will not give me any of Mama’s money. I am just hoping my Governess will be kind to me until – I find some way of earning my living.” The Viscount thought that he had never heard of a
