“Hhh.” Luke shivered and attempted to curl up but was stopped by the belt across his chest. The movement caused his back to scrape against the soft cover of the car seat. He arched at the twinge and his eyes opened. Uncertain, he turned sideways and met Jake’s droopy blue eyes. “Hi, there,” greeted Jake quietly. “How’re you feeling?” Luke stuttered a question. “Where am I?” Jake motioned his hand around to show Luke their surroundings. The young man followed it wordlessly. What he saw soothed his heart. They were in a car parked in front of a house, not too small but not too big, with green lawn graced with ash and oak trees and flowering shrubs.
