XAVIER
"Alpha King, please wake up. There has been another disturbance." Xavier suddenly sat up straight in his bed at the stern sound of Ruxs voice. He sounded pissed, which of course meant that he would soon be pissed too.
He picked his cellphone from the bedside table and squinted at the illuminating light. Damn it. It's only 1 in the morning. It felt like he just dozed off a minute ago. Feeling tired and frustrated, he stood up and stretched his bulky body. He could hear his pack readying to move.
"Ruxs, what the hell is going on?" he asked telepathically, while he started dressing up.
Ruxs growled echo through their pack link. "I'm not sure sure. There was another fight just a while ago between three werewolves, and ten witches."
"s**t. Ten witches. Are the shifters hurt?"
"Yes. But eyewitnesses stated that the wolves are the aggressors, and they attacked the witches when they came out from one of the known club in the city."
Xavier clenched his fists. Why couldn't his life just be simple and easy. Gone was the days where all the Alpha King had to do was make ceremonial visits through every pack and to ensure that everyone is working productively to help him with his duties. It seems that Xavier is just staying in the road correcting every pack's problems that his pack leaders and enforcers can't do.
They all knew that their way of life would change once the humans learned of their existence, but no one thought that it would go as bad as the government threatening. They were not only talking about registering all shifters in the system but also asking for volunteers so they could research shifters anatomy in labs.
So far, Xavier's meetings with various pack leaders had come to the same conclusion. Punish the offenders so that the others will fall in line. If order is restored, the government should probably fall back. Xavier didn't like the idea of ruling with an iron fist, but desperate times calls for desperate measure.
But why were his wolves out of control? Why are they adamant to fight the witches? What's forcing them to behave irrationally?
Xavier knew that, if he didn't get the violence controlled then the government would pushed to force his shifters to register in a system that he won't be able to control anymore.
Grumbling, Xavier got on the spacious RV and graciously took the coffee his sister had offered. His pack looked tired and worn, and he probably looked the same. But this is something he couldn't push through. It was in his nature to not break, and he love his shifters too much not to give them his all.
Despite lack of rest and the fatigue that wants to drag Xavier down he still walk tall with his shoulders back and eyes focused. He's worried with his team, they probably just settled into sleep when this unexpected crisis happened. Walking by, he makes sure to touch them one by one giving them confort. Before he settled in his own seat.
Xavier was an amazing Alpha, strong and solid. His wolf an unstoppable force, more powerful than anyone he had met. Although, he prayed that he's strong enough to defend against a rebellion. Because that's what might happen in the near future. This new feud had happened here in New York City, where any wolf knew was in his—the Alpha King's jurisdiction.
Were they're trying to get his attention? Or they probably just want to start a war against witches again, after a very long time of relative peace. Knowing that, Xavier couldn't allow that to happen. Out of nowhere an idea suddenly struck him.
"Everyone. What do you guys think of this?" Taking a more comfortable position in his seat, "None of us really know what's the root of this problem but there's consensus on both sides by higher ups to quickly resolve this issues as soon as possible. The Witch Council is probably not happy with this negative publicity either."
"So what are you suggesting we do Xavier?" Alexandra asked.
"How about proposing that the authority figures of both sides show a united front and rule by example. We keep on saying we should make an example of them, to punish the offenders. But did we gave them a good example to follow. Have any of us shown our youth how to interact with witches. They only knew them as our enemies since ancient times. Times is changing. If we wanted to live in peace we have to give way and become more accepting."
"I understand what you're saying Alpha, but unfortunately shifters and witches don't have anything in common. We're not meant to be friends. Shifters and witches are fighting because it's only natural. And I believe that this feud is probably related to territorial disputes. "
Ruxs analysis make sense now. And it made Xavier more determine to do what he's planning on doing. When Xavier spoke he's not posing it as a question but a statement, to prepare them on what to expect. Because from here on, a lot of things will start to change. Hopefully, he will not regret his decision. Though, at that time he didn't think that it would affect him more than anyone else.
"I'm going to meet the Witch King."
