I stood in the shadows at the back, close to the trees. I watched in the hall earlier as she had been awarded the Elder rank. I watched her parents leave. I would never get to be introduced to them. I would never get the chance to ask for her fathers permission to take his daughter's hand in marriage. The world would never know that we had found each other.
