Chapter 6The little group barely left the stable before Pete and Jon joined them. Jo and Charlie soon came along, bringing up the rear. They returned to the clubhouse by way of the Caledonia Mine Museum, which had opened for the day while the show was in progress.
A tall, aristocratic looking elderly lady sat at the reception desk, just inside the double door. She stood up and came forward to greet them. “Why, Lawton, what a lovely surprise. Who are these folks with you?”
Lawton named off each of the children, including Melissa, Jo, and Charlie in the introduction. “Folks, this is Maude Corrigan, otherwise known as Ms. Graveyard Gulch. Her father opened the first mine here and she was one of the first children born in the town.”
