When Time Doesn’t Exist

Chapter 28

It was a normal day today. Nothing special happened. The two boys were chilling at their usual spot which is the laboratory. Finally, Enjo decided to solve Lyn’s situation because it is been days and he has nothing to do anyway since he is already done with his homework. While he was busy, his brother is also busy spending his time, sketching on his pocket notebook. Lyn is in a locked room where Enjo can only open it using his password on the door by scanning his eye.

“It is so unfair,” whispered Benji on himself as he looked at his brother. “Why am I not allowed to visit Lyn?” he asked himself while drawing Lyn.

He is drawing her according to his memory. Benji tried to remember her face and unique facial features but he could not get it so his sketch is unrecognizable. Even though he knows that it is forbidden to show their creativity and even though Enjo already scolded him for drawing too much, he still did not listen because he could not hear them and all that he can hear is his heart so he follows what it wanted and what it makes him happy.

“How was it?” asked Benji to his brother when he notices that his brother stood up.

His brother did not answer him and he did not even look at him because he was too busy looking at the papers that he was holding while walking and facing in the direction from where Lyn’s room is. He stopped in front of the door and he looked at the scanner. The small camera went out of the secured door and it scanned his eyes as soon as he looked at it. There is a blue light coming out of the camera which means that it scanned his eye successfully.

The door suddenly opened after the camera scanned his eye. Benji tried to sneak and look inside while the metal door is open but it closed after a few seconds. He did not even have a chance to take a glimpse at Lyn inside the room. Because of that, he became more curious and worried since he does not have any clue if she is alright or not. He did not know what to do so he turned back on what he was sketching and he also roamed around after.

It was boring for him because it has been an hour but there are no answers yet to his questions that were clouding his mind for days. As soon as he tried to sleep on the table, the door suddenly opened so he looked at it quickly. However, the door that was opened was not from Lyn’s room, instead, it was the main door. He looked at the person who went and barge into their laboratory without permission.

“Sharley, what are you doing here?” he asked her when she saw and noticed that it was her.

“We do not even have any classes earlier and it is our rest day today,” he continued.

“I was looking for your brother,” she responded as she looked at the whole room but she did not find what she was looking for.

She was acting nervous and it was obvious for Benji. He could not help himself from looking and observing her every move again. Benji does not even care anymore if it makes her uncomfortable and he does not care for what she thinks. Even though it was obvious to Sharley that he is looking at her, she still chose to stay and wait for Enjo. She sat on the chair that is not too far away from Benji and took out her tablet to write something.

“Why are you looking for him?” asked Enjo while he was still looking at her.

“It is none of your business,” she answered in a serious and irritated tone.

“I could have answered your question a few minutes ago if that is not how you acted,” said Benji as he tried to match her energy.

He stood up and walked to approach her. As soon as Sharley noticed his shadow and his feet while looking down, she looked up at him with his eyebrows furrowed. She is not showing any emotions while she was looking at him. They were both staring at each other and no one dared to cut the scene to show how high their pride is. After a minute, Benji got bored so he decided to do what he wanted to do from the very start.

Benji did not hesitate to grab her tablet and he opened the app that they were using to answer the digital test. As soon as Sharley was supposed to grab back her tablet, Benji pushed her and she lost her balance. She tried to get all her energy to stand up so she can snatch her tablet. Sharley does not want him to know the truth but it was already too late. He opened the app and he clicked the subject of the topic that they answered a few days ago.

“What the heck is your problem?!” she could not help herself from shouting at him.

“So, you did cheat,” said Benji calmy while he is still holding her tablet in his left hand.

They were both shouting at each other and proving their point but they just could not understand each other. Their argument was stopped because of Enjo. As soon as he went out of the room, he saw them arguing. They both looked at Enjo while Benji was still grabbing Sharley’s collar so he pushed her. Sharley also kept the sharp blade that she kept in her pocket. She always has that blade on her in case.

When Enjo started to open up the topic about why they are arguing, no one dared to break the silence and they minded their own business like it did not happen a while ago. Benji wanted to him the truth but he remained silent because he knows that Sharley will say something too and they will just argue again so he decided to not tell him what was going on. He just waited for Sharley to speak up but she is also dead silent.

“Why did you come here?” asked Enjo to Sharley when no one tried to answer his first question.

“I wanted to borrow some of your projects so I can study them,” she answered as he looked at him and then looked at Benji, looking down on his sketches.

After she answered his question, Benji stood up and he spoke about her being a cheater because she copied Enjo’s ideas. He also said that Enjo should not let her borrow the projects that he worked hard for because she will probably claim them and she will not credit him. Sharley did not let him win so she responded that Benji should not bother them because they will be a great partner for their upcoming research and new project inventions.

“Yes, borrowing someone’s project is a big deal!” shouted Benji when he could not hear himself anymore because she is also shouting.

Enjo could not help himself from shouting too so they are all shouting at each other in the room.
