It’s been a couple of months since that night with Rae at Babydoll’s. I can’t deny that it was absolutely incredible. But reality came calling when Annabel got home from her Disney trip with an upper respiratory infection. She was so sick and I did nothing but stay by her side for ten days. I thought about Rae often but I couldn’t leave my daughter. She needed me and I was going to be there. Once she was better I threw myself back into work to catch up on everything I’d missed. Chase did his best to fill in for me but he was in way over his head. I had to save a couple of deals that he nearly screwed up but I managed just fine.
I wanted to go back to the club to see Rae but how would I explain to her that I have a daughter that is my number one priority. I like her but I’m not sure if I’m even ready to date again. I know she said she doesn’t pick up dudes in the club and I believe her. I don’t know what to do. I'm so conflicted.
“Hey man, I’m going back to the club tonight. You wanna go with me?” Chase asks
“I can’t. Your parents have that fundraiser thing and you know I don’t trust anyone else with Annabel,” I say.
“Oh yeah. I forgot about that. I guess I’ll just have to go see your girl on my own,” Chase says.
Why does that make me so angry? I could strangle him if he puts his hands on her. What am I thinking? How can I be jealous when other men are paying for lap dances from her? I can’t stop her from doing her job. I have no claim on her.
“You go. Have fun,” I say to Chase.
“Oh I plan to,” he grins.
I’m plagued with thoughts of Rae all day. As soon as four o’clock comes around I am walking out of my office.
“Leaving early sir?” My assistant says with a flirty smile. I nod ignoring her pushing her breasts up. She’s always trying to seduce me. I guess it’s time for a new one. Again. I stop at HR on the third floor.
“Hey Gloria. Have a minute?” I ask.
“For the big boss? Always,” she says.
“I need you to transfer Ms. Summers off my floor, maybe out of the building,” I say.
“Uh oh. What did this one do?” She asks,
“What they all do. The shameless flirting. I don’t come to my office to sleep with my assistant,” I say.
“New assistant coming right up,” she laughs.
“A male one this time. Preferably straight. I don’t need him trying to turn me,” I say with a chuckle.
“Just say no. Or take one up on it. Either way works for me,” she says.
“Just find me the right guy, please,” I say.
“Oh I’ve been telling myself that for many many years,” she laughs.
“Goodnight Gloria,” I say.
“Night boss, kiss the angel for me,” she says.
“Will do,” I say.
When I arrive at my penthouse I see people scurrying around. There is a loud yelp from the back bedroom and I rush back there. I open the door to see my mother-in-law on a massage table. Her head pops up and she looks at me.
“I’m fine. Just getting my legs waxed. Annabel is in her room hiding from Jocelyn,” she says motioning to the beautician.
“I’m going to do the same. You enjoy your torture,” I say with a laugh.
I head down the hall to my baby girl’s room and open the door to a very distraught Gregory. He is wearing a feather boa around his neck and his tiara is lopsided while holding a cup of “tea”.
“You’re holding it all wrong,” I say to him.
I go to Bell’s dresser and place “my” tiara on my head while Bell looks for my ensemble. She wraps a purple boa around my neck and gives me a pair of white gloves.
“Thank you, my lady,” I say in my princess voice.
She pours me some tea and places a tiny sandwich on my plate. I expertly pick up the tea and show Greg how it’s done.
“That’s why daddy is the best,” Annabel says.
I stick my tongue out at Greg who huffs. He excuses himself to get ready.
“Are you sure we can't convince you to join us?” Ilene asks.
“Nope. I promised Annabel a movie and makeover night,” I say.
“Sorry g-ma, but ya’ll gosta go,” Annabel says in her sassiest voice.
“Oh child. Who taught you to speak that way?” Ilene asks.
“Uncle Chase!” Annabel says running off into the kitchen.
“I’m going to kill him,” Ilene says.
“You’ll break your g-baby’s heart,” I say.
“Don’t start too or you’re no longer my favorite,” she says.
“Yes ma’am,” I say.
Chase was right. This woman is scary. They head off for the evening and Bell and I settle in for the movie. She has all her colorful hair supplies out and begins brushing my hair. Her tiny fingers worked hard to pull my hair in the right direction. I paint her face and she does mine as well. We take silly pictures and then wash our faces. She smears some green goo on our faces and it has a minty tingle to it. Sometime during the movie we fall asleep but I wake up to the shutter sound of a camera. Chase shows me the picture of Bell and I snuggled up on the couch with matching face masks and nail polish. I use the wipes to gently wipe the mask off her face. I take her to her bed and go wash everything off myself. I have to admit my skin does look better. I join Chase in the living room and he hands me a beer.
“Well aren’t you glowing,” Chase laughs.
“Stuff works,” I laugh. I look at him and I’m dying to ask about his night.
“She wasn’t there,” he says.
“She wasn’t?” I ask.
“She quit. Apparently something happened with a customer and it scared her off. The girls wouldn’t say much but she’s not there anymore,” Chase says.
I was glad she no longer worked at the club but I was also scared that I was the one who scared her away. She was so worried about anything happening with us that night. Did I make her leave? She’d never want to see me again after that.
