Theo stood by the door, his hand wrapped in white bandage, and a part of his lip looked like it had gotten busted.
Luna looked at her savior in confusion. She wasn’t expecting to see this exact person, much less an unamused looking one. She always felt shivers every time she was around Theo. There was something about his presence that somewhat made her feel uncomfortable. This made sense in a way since Luna had always felt offended by Theo and the way he never bothered to look at her.
Theo’s gray eyes suddenly turned to Luna and she was completely taken aback. Luna gets goosebumps as her eyes locked in with Theo’s and she realizes she has never fully seen him. As Theo stood in front of her, she began to notice the details of his face.
Luna has never seen anyone with such a menacing aura. Just him standing a few feet away from her already made her feel tensed up. It didn’t help that Theo never wore anything with color. It was as if he was always in mourning, wearing black from head to toe. Luna clenched her jaw tightly as Theo began to walk towards them. His gray eyes continued to pierce at hers and it almost felt like she was going to melt onto the bed she was sitting down on by how intense his stare was. The funny thing was that even though she felt so intimidated by his look, there was something in it that couldn’t make Luna turn away. It was as if his eyes were telling her a story and she wanted to listen.
“Theo, are you good?” Aiden spoke up and immediately took Luna away from her thoughts as both hers and Theo’s eyes looked away from each other.
Theo stood in front of the bed Luna was at and ran his fingers through his hair. The way his fingers just glided made it look as if he had the smoothest locks in the history of male hairs and this fascinated Luna.
“I’m alright.” Theo replied, his voice deep and hoarse.
He turned to Luna and the second they locked looks with each other once again, she instinctively swallowed the lump in her throat.
“What about… you?” Luna froze at his question, but mostly the way he looked at her like there was nobody else in the room.
His stare pierced into Luna and for a second, she almost forgot how to speak. Luna couldn’t believe he was actually talking to her. In all two years of knowing each other, or her knowing Theo that is, he has never acknowledged her presence in any way.
Luna turned to her side to see if it was actually Aiden he was asking the question to but he was looking at her as well, waiting for her to answer the question Theo had just asked.
“Um… I’m fine. What happened to your… hand?” Luna asked, a hint of nervousness in her tone.
For the first time in her life, Theo had spoken to her, and out of uncertainty with how to respond, she figured it would be just polite to ask why he had a bandage on his hand. Something she spotted the moment he showed up in the room.
“It’s nothing.” Theo replied unfazed and without even bothering to look at Luna.
She immediately sensed the coldness in Theo’s tone and concluded that he was no longer interested in talking to her. Luna’s surprise that Theo acknowledged her for the first time was immediately diminished when she realized he was already back to his usual attitude.
Theo turned to Aiden and spoke up. “Anyways, I came here to say that Mr. Ferguson is looking for you. He needs to ask you about some urgent things.”
“Oh, right. Well, um, can you tell him we can talk later on? I was going to help Luna out of the clinic.” Aiden replied as he stood up from the chair he was sitting on and walked towards where Theo was.
Luna was surprised to hear what Aiden had just said. He never mentioned anything about waiting for her and now she felt bad that he was going to skip a meeting just because of her.
“Wiat, you don’t have to do that!” Luna spoke up, the tone in her voice sounding urgent.
Both Aiden and Theo turned to look at her. Aiden looked at her in shock while Theo remained indifferent about everything.
“What? What do you mean?” Aiden asked Luna with furrowed brows.
“I mean… I am fine now. I can go back to class by myself.” Luna replied with a smile.
Deep down, she knew she was still feeling a bit dizzy and if she stood up, she would probably feel like the ground was moving under her feet, but in order for Aiden to leave, she had to lie through her teeth.
“No, it’s okay. I can stay here with you no problem.” Aiden was persistent in staying with Luna until she was better.
But Luna herself was not having it. “Aiden, please. You can go.” Luna looked at Aiden with a hint of pleading in her eyes and Aiden knew he would not be able to say no to that any more.
He bit his lip and for a few seconds, thought of how else he could help Luna as he didn’t just want to leave her all alone. That was when he thought of another way.
Aiden turned to Theo with a cheeky smile and Theo looked at him with a raised brow as if to tell Aiden he was not liking where this was going.
“I know. Theo can help you out of the clinic. Right, Theo?” Aiden’s tone was insinuating as he turned to his best friend with a small smile that was somewhat telling him to accept.
“Wait, what?” Theo replied in surprise as he stared at his best friend in disbelief.
Luna watched the two in front of her and she couldn’t help but let out a chuckle. The two most popular guys in school were in front of her and they were somewhat having a staredown right at this moment. She wouldn’t have ever thought she could get near either of the two, but right now, they were in front of her like it was a normal occurrence.
“Um, I can go on my own, you know.” Luna broke off the two’s staring contest as they both turned their heads to her.
“See, she’s fine. Now stop whining and let’s go.” Theo exclaimed hastily as he grabbed his best friend’s arm and started to pull him away.
Luna felt rather appalled by how Theo was always trying to be away from her as far as possible. She didn’t understand why he was always so determined to stay away from her as much as he could and thus, being able to take Aiden away from her. This made her remember the time during Spring right before her accident and how he pulled Aiden away from her as well.
Luna clenched her fists tightly to avoid her from blowing things out of proportion as she began to feel angered by Theo’s actions.
“Yeah, you guys should go.” Luna replied through her gritted teeth and a smile she forced herself to make.
The two were practically out of the door as Theo continued to pull Aiden away by his sleeve and Aiden was barely able to say goodbye.
“I’ll check on you later, okay!” Aiden said before disappearing behind the door.
The second Luna was alone in the clinic, she slumped back on her bed and let out a sigh. She looked up at the ceiling and her face scrunched up in annoyance at what had just happened.
Luna’s grip on the bed sheet began to get tighter and tighter the more she thought of Theo and his audacity. But what bothered Luna the most was that she as well couldn’t forget the way he looked when he entered the room. She would be lying if she said she wasn’t at first mesmerized by his presence.
For Aiden, Luna felt his aura as someone that was open and kind and easily approachable, but when it came to Theo, she felt as if it was ice cold being around him but there was something in that mystery that made her want to keep looking at him until she perhaps found the underlying secret of Theo Donovan.
Luna shook her head to snap her back from reality and to stop the thoughts of Theo running around in her head.
“Okay, L. We should really get to class now.” She told herself with a sigh as she pushed her body up from the bed.
She turned to look at the clock by the wall in front of her and realized she had already missed one class while she was sleeping in the clinic. Luckily, it was only homeroom class and nothing much happened besides some briefing. Although Luna was still feeling quite dizzy, she knew she had no choice but to get back up because she couldn’t miss the next class which was Mathematics. Most students would hate that subject, but to Luna, it was her strongest subject. Technically speaking, there was no subject she couldn’t ace if she wanted to.
Luna pushed the blanket off of her and turned her body to the side, her legs dangling by the bed. She looked down at the floor and already felt quite unwell, but she knew she had to push herself no matter what.
Luna placed her hands by her side on the bed and with one push, managed to stand up from the bed.
She let out a groaning noise as she stood up. She wasn’t sure as to what happened, but she felt like her legs were starting to feel like jelly just standing there. She tries to open her eyes, but realizes she was going to end up puking if she kept them open so instead closed her eyes tightly.
“Come on, L. Stop being a wuss.” Luna told herself as she balanced her body with both her hands raised to the side.
Slowly, but surely, she began to open her eyes once again, making sure to keep her body steady so that she wouldn’t tip off.
Unfortunately, the second she got her eyes open, she felt the floor begin to move under her feet, and before she knew it, she was already tipping down to the floor, like a Jenga puzzle with an important piece that was taken away from it so it begins to tumble and eventually hits the floor or table and every piece scatters.
Just the thought of it terrified Luna because this wasn’t going to be her first accident. What was going to happen if she hit her face on the floor again? She knew it wasn’t going to be pretty, there was no doubt to that.
Luna puts her arm out and tries to reach for the bed, the bedsheet, anything that could help her not fall, but it seemed like it was too late as it felt like she was just trying to hold onto the air.
In that second, all Luna could do was pray that the floor would suddenly turn into a bed of marshmallow or anything soft that would hopefully lessen the pain of the impact. Sadly, she knew that was going to be impossible.
Thud.
Luna hits the floor, but is completely baffled as to why it didn’t hurt.
“Wait, what?” She said out loud as she pushed herself off and opened her eyes.
Once her eyes were fully opened, she looked at the piece of white pillow that was on the floor in front of her. She stared at it like it was an object she had never seen before in her entire life. In Luna’s defense, she had no idea why there was suddenly a pillow on the floor. Was it there before? Are pillows on the floor a thing now? Is there a pillow fairy godmother she didn't know about?
A person cleared his throat next to Luna and she immediately snapped her head to the side, surprised that there was actually someone next to her.
“Are you just going to stare at the pillow, Valentine?”
Luna’s pillow fairy godmother stood next to her with his arms crossed on his chest and his face with a look of impatience in it.
“Wait… you know my name?” The first thing that Luna thought of to ask was probably the least most important matter.
“Yes, Luna Valentine. I know who you are.”
Luna swallowed the lump in her throat as she tried to process what she had just heard.
Was it real? Aiden Harries, her childhood crush and had encountered her more times couldn’t even remember who she was.
How was it possible that the boy that seemingly tried his best to avoid her knew and remembered her? How was it possible that out of all the people, Theo Donovan looked at her like he was not surprised that she had suddenly changed? And what was he doing back in the clinic again standing next to Luna?
