More to deal with. Now I have to give up my title? The mate bond kept me from out right aggression directed at Dave, but I still felt resentment that I wouldn’t be in charge of my pack. I felt protective of my pack, and giving up this responsibility to a stranger, even if he is my mate, felt wrong. Would my pack even accept him? Does he even have the traits required to be an alpha? All I know about him is that he is an unranked male that works for the council. If he had a rank it could be placed anywhere in the pack hierarchy. 

I needed to sort out my feelings about the whole situation. First I needed a plan. It starts with training up Dave to actually be an Alpha. It’s more than just being a leader. My dad always said that a pack was like a military unit, everyone has a job, and everyone trusts each other to do that job. And in this pack the Alpha was at the top and the bottom. The alpha is the person that sees the problems and works to fix them. An alpha leads and serves their pack. Would Dave be able to do that if he has always been an unranked wolf? 

We sat in silence for a moment in my office. I had calmed down quite a bit, so decided to put some things out in the open. “Tonight at dinner I will make an announcement to the pack that Dave will be joining us. For now that is the only information that they need. I will keep the alpha title for now until they are used to, you. Then once you feel confident we will work on transferring the title. I’m not even announcing that you are my mate, rumors will run wild as it is, I just won’t deny anything if confronted with it.”

Dave and Brian nodded in agreement. My dad scratched his chin before saying. “This is a pretty decisive approach. It’s pretty effective. I like how you are running with this.” My dad’s praise made me proud of myself. I’ve always been able to think on my feet, but this whole thing had me on my seat, having to work harder than ever before. 

“I’ll give my boss a call and see what her plans are for me now. I’ll let her know the situation, and maybe I can figure out why my replacement needed to conduct interviews.” Dave said.

“Okay, feel free to use my office, I’m going to go squish my kid.” I stood up and was followed out the door with Brian. Sure it was just one night, but I missed my little man.

We headed down to the childcare offices to grab Sammy, and passed several wolves that were holding hands that hadn’t been coupled before. There is hope. Brian wrapped his arm around me. He had been reluctant to show PDA in public up to this point afraid that the pack would be jealous, it felt nice to be able to open up like this now. He leaned his head down to nuzzle me and said. “How bout we take little man to get ice cream since we are back?”

“Hmm, sounds like a plan.” I agreed. 

As soon as we opened the door to the daycare, an excited ball of energy crashed into us. Brian groaned as Sammy’s head made contact with his dad’s stomach, and I laughed at his enthusiasm. Brian weezed out. “I guess he missed us.”

“Daddy!!” The little boy screamed in delight. 

“Hey buddy, next time give me a warning.” Brian begged.

I shook my head still laughing. “Hey why don’t we go to scoops?” I asked my son. 

His eyes expanded so much that I thought his grey orbs were going to fall out. “Yes!!” his high pitched squeal echoed in the hall.

“Okay, okay.” We headed to the garage and grabbed our Jeep Wrangler then headed to the town. We parked at the town center shopping area and walked the path that wound through the park towards the ice cream shop. Sammy didn’t bother staying with us, instead he was running laps around us and climbing the decorative boulders that were placed around the path. 

Brian and I were quietly enjoying our son while we made our way to our favorite shop when I had a thought. “I wonder how the dragon’s daughter knew about Sammy.”

Brian stiffened. “I want to know how he knew about me.”

“Strange family.” I said. Brian snorted, and nodded in agreement. We didn’t say any more about them as we had reached the front doors of Scoops. 

We walked to the counter and looked at their selection. Scoops was great and made all their ice cream in house, so the flavors changed daily. They had a few classics that they kept on hand like chocolate, but they also had some house flavors that they kept remaking. My favorite is raspberry white chocolate topped with walnut and dulce de leche. I ordered my favorite, and got Sammy a cotton candy flavor cone. Brian just ordered their cookie vanilla sandwich. 

Sammy climbed into a booth and politely waited for me to hand him his cone. It struck me as funny that he was wired for sound until he’s about to eat a sugary treat. He’s a funny little guy, super excited until he gets his reward then he’s calm and sated after. I planned to take him to the playground after our ice cream. Sammy has gotten better at playing with human children, and tends to be more gentle when he knows that his strength could hurt other kids. 

We finished our dessert then walked back through the park and stopped at the playground to let Sammy play. There were a few other families with the same plan. I could tell that one was human by their smell, but the other family, the mom was one of my wolves. It was nice, because all that mattered in that moment to me was that our children were able to play together. I didn’t have to think about the drama that faced me back at the pack house.

After about an hour Brian and I gathered Sammy and headed back to the Jeep to go home. My little boy was filthy and I wanted him to get a bath before dinner. I enjoyed this simple task of motherhood. I enjoyed the scenery as Brian drove, it’s only a short drive into town, but we left most of our land wild. The lilies and corn flowers lined the road that turned to our driveway were explosive pops of color against the green of the pine. It’s early autumn and I knew that these flowers would be going dormant soon, so I gobbled up their beauty, savoring that last vision of summer. 

Once we parked I took Sammy to give him a bath and made sure that word spread that I wanted everyone in the dinning room for a pack announcement. I need to introduce Dave as a pack member now. Brian interrupted my plan though. “Hey I’ll bathe Sammy, you talk to Dave and see if the council is going to let him resign.”

“Fine.” I sighed. I linked my dad to see where they were, then headed to my office to meet them. 

“Hey Jenny Bean, enjoy your outing?” my dad asked.

I nodded. “Yeah it was the little sliver of normal that I needed before stuff gets crazy.” Dave had a pained look on his face. I know he blames himself for this, but it really isn’t his fault. “So, Dave, did you have a chance to talk to your boss?”

He looked up and told me what they talked about. “Yeah, right now I’m on admin leave, and since you are appointing me as Alpha I will formally resign at that time. She has already finished up the investigation here, they have no findings, and are dropping the case.”

Inwardly I cheered, I knew that we weren’t in trouble for anything, but when the council starts poking around it always feels like we were bad at housekeeping. “That good. What was the reason you were called in the first place? I mean if you are allowed to say.” I asked.

“Ghosts.” he flatly said. 

I scoffed. “You were sent here on a ghost chase?”

“Yeah, and come to find out the Mayor had no idea that we were called either. No one in this town contacted the council.” Dave added. 

“That is very weird. It’s almost as if…” I trailed off not daring to speak the thoughts in my mind into reality. But Dave and my dad both caught on.

My dad growled. “You think something made up a reason for your second mate to be in the right place at the right time?”

I shook my head in disbelief. Why would someone do that? And how powerful must they be to make that happen? It’s like they have the ear of the gods. “I don’t want to say anything right now. Dave, can you ask Maggie if this is a possibility?”

He nodded. “I’ll call her tomorrow. I just don’t understand why someone would go through this effort, I’m really not special.”

My dad raised his eyebrows at my mate. “You have got to be kidding me. Well, once you accept alpha you’ll see.” I c****d my head not understanding what my dad saw in this man. “Oh you’ll see Jenny bean.” my dad told me before leaving the office.

As soon as the door closed I realized that this is the first time that I am absolutely alone with my mate. I shivered with the realization. Dave’s husky voice cut through my realization. “What are you thinking my mate?”

“Umm,” I couldn’t say it. I was embarrassed and I didn’t want to open that door yet.

Dave had other ideas. His long legs chewed up the distance between us. Suddenly his scent and aura were clouding my thoughts. I felt like I had no control, I reached one trembling hand up to his chest. “I like these thoughts honey.” he tauntingly said. 

I whispered under my breath. “I don’t know what I’m doing.” I know he heard me how could he not, he was so close. My hand made contact with him, and slid up his chest. The sparks erupted under my fingertips and shot up my arm. “But I want this.” my hand made contact with his neck and face now igniting a fire in my belly. 

Dave growled and wrapped his arms around me pulling me into a tight embrace. His head dropped to meet my waiting lips. He crashed into me an overwhelming kiss. Why does this feel so good? His lips slid across mine, his tongue traced the seam of my mouth gently demanding entrance. I conceded letting him take over my mouth tangling our tongues licking and sucking my lips. I felt like I was in a fire storm, my emotions running wild. This. This man is my mate. This is what I was built for.

I heard a chuckle in my mind causing me to panic and break contact with Dave, I abruptly pushed him away shaking my head. My office door opened revealing my husband standing there laughing. “Enjoying yourself?” 

Dave and I both turned red in embarrassment. I shook my head “Thanks for warning me.”

“Eh, you can have alone time tonight, but right now we need to introduce Dave to the pack.” Brian shrugged, leading us out of the office door to the dining room. 

We walked into the dining room seeing everyone milling around waiting for us. I cleared my throat, gaining their attention. “Evening everyone. I know that yesterday and this morning were more eventful than most days that we have been through. And I apologize for not being here to deal with the interviews myself.” a few people murmured about my absence, but most were quiet waiting for me to finish. “The investigation is over, and as expected they found nothing. Thank you all for cooperating with the council in my absence you have all made me very proud to be in charge of this pack.” claps and more quiet exchanges were heard. 

I waited until everyone was silent once more before continuing. “I have one more unexpected announcement to make. At this time I will introduce a new pack member.” stunned expressions reflected back my own feelings. “This is former council investigator David Moss, I want everyone to welcome him and make him feel like this is his home too.” more claps echoed off the walls of the dining room. “Thank you all for taking time out of your evening and personal lives to be here for this announcement. Please enjoy your meal and the rest of your night.”

The families that didn’t live in the pack house filtered out of the dining hall to feed their kids in their own homes in the neighborhood that bordered the pack house land. Dave sat at a separate table to meet and greet with some of my warriors while Brian and I sat with my parents and Sammy. I watched as Dave interacted, and even laughed at a joke one of my warriors said. It was warming to see him integrating with the pack so swiftly. 

We finished dinner and took Sammy to his room for bed. Crap I didn’t even think about sleeping arrangements for Dave! I guess for now we can have him stay back in the room that we let him recuperate in a few nights ago. But where do I really want him to sleep?  After settling Sammy into bed I walked through our apartment living room into my bedroom to find Brian and Dave waiting for me. “Umm, what’s going on?”

Brian smirked at me. “Finishing what you started.” I gulped.

Dave slowly walked towards me. I felt like a rabbit being stalked by a fox. My heart was racing and my skin felt hot. “Honey you smell so good, I could just eat you.” Dave told me, sending very lewd images racing through my mind. Oh gods and planets I am in trouble. 

I put my hands up halting his advance and swallowed down the tightness in my throat that was threatening to strangle me. “Okay, how are we doing this? Brian are you going to be here for this? Or are you two planning on taking turns?”

Dave took one shaky step back but his eyes were already clouded with lust. Brian spoke up, cooling the situation a bit. “Why don’t I step out for this. I’m sure Dave wants his mate to himself the first time, but it’s really up to you.”

I trembled with the ideas rolling through my head. Look I’ve watched p**n, and scenarios with two guys and a girl have turned me on, but I have never been brave enough to place myself there, even before I was mated to Brian. This was wild, I don’t know what I’m getting myself into. “Dave what do you want?” I shakily asked.

“I don’t care as long as I have my mate.” he breathed out huskily.

“Okay one more question.” He nodded urging me to continue. “Am I your first?” he nodded, confirming my suspicions. He told me that he waited for his mate, so I’m assuming everything about having a mate, even the physical release of good old fashion s*x he waited for.

“Okay, um Brian, give Dave this first time, then we can talk about more adventurous stuff later.” I decided. 

Brian nodded and left our bedroom to stay in the third bedroom in our apartment. “I’ll come back when you are satisfied, I won’t be able to block this out so be good to her.” He said to Dave in a deadpan.

My face heated up as I heard the door click shut behind him. In an instant Dave was invading my space drugging me with kisses and his scent. I felt like I was enveloped in a summer rain comforting and sensual. His hands roamed my body unbuttoning my top and shoving at my pants. He was clumsy and inexperienced, not knowing where to start. I had to slow him down and step back to undress myself for him. I could hear a low rumble in his chest appreciating the slow show I made of stripping. 

“Come on then you too.” I quirked an eyebrow at him telling him to join me. I sat on the bed and watched him rip his clothes off unceremoniously, like a dude, come on make it sexy for me! Oh well I’ll teach him later. What mattered is that he was in front of me naked and standing at attention. And that deep tan of his was uniform, oh my naughty wolf you sunbathe naked. His broad chest had a smattering of chest hair that trailed down to his sizable equipment. I reached out a hand and pulled him to the bed to sit next to me. 

His wolf had other plans and pushed him to the back of his head. His dark eyes were now yellow letting me know that he wasn’t in control. I wanted to make this memorable for him and pamper him a bit since this is the first time, but he took over crashing his lips to mine kissing and nipping. He pushed me to the bed covering my body with his. He nibbled and sucked at my neck scraping his teeth across where a mating mark should be. I had never been marked since fairies don’t do that. It never bothered me until now. Now I craved that claim. I leaned my head to the side giving him more access to sink his canines into the soft flesh of my throat. 

“May I?” He quietly asked. I looked at his face seeing that Dave regained control. I nodded giving him permission. A smile spread on his face and he dropped his mouth back to my neck kissing and nipping, I shivered waiting for him to sink in his teeth, but he didn’t. Oh now that is frustrating. Instead he continued to trail kisses down my body nipping and tasting the whole way down. He gently grasped one of my breasts and nibbled the other sucking the pink peak into a hard nub. I moaned, reveling in the sensation of his hot mouth. He lathed his tender nips on my other breast as well before trailing down my body further stopping to swirl his tongue in my belly button, I shuddered as it tickled.

I could feel him building to a release, then he slowed down catching his breath. “Why do you keep doing that?” I asked when he stopped again.

I growled and took control. I used my strength and the element of surprise to flip us over so that I was on top.
