“Everyone has their own abilities, but it isn't allowed to use it unless it's necessary. It's too risky for everyone, especially for those who still can't control it. That's why we don't use them that much,” he explained while opening the monitor. The ability test is about to start and I'm already lying inside a rectangular object inside of the Tester room. “There are three types of peculiars; Commoners, Kichō, and Recherché. It depends on how strong your ability is, on what kind of peculiar you are, and where you belong.”
He pressed something on the screen monitor and suddenly blue lights were appearing inside and started scanning my whole body. It feels so uncomfortable since I am wearing the fitted clothes that Sagan made me wear before I entered this rectangular object I was in right now.
Sagan didn't speak again after that. He was just calmly looking at the monitor while his hands were crossed on his chest, so I couldn't help but stare at him from the transparent tester where I am now. He spoke a little. He only speaks when he has something important to say and after that, he will never say a word again. He always seemed to have something on his mind. I wonder what's going on in his head. He's quite mysterious, which makes him more interesting.
After a minute, the machine stopped and the blue lights that surrounded me earlier disappeared. Sagan approached me and opened the rectangular object I was in. I close my eyes when everything is starting to glitch. What the shells are happening?
As I opened my eyes, the oversized t-shirt and pajamas that I was wearing earlier are back and everything was starting to change. From plain white walls to science-world-like surroundings. It's like I'm on another planet. It was quite dark, and blue is the motif of the surroundings. There were neon aquatic-like lines in the walls. In the ceiling, it looks like a blue oceanic galaxy. There are also flying drones around. From the window, I saw that there were huge buildings outside and flying transportation that was ridden by the students.
I also looked at my wrist when I felt like something cold appeared there too, only to find out that it's a watch. A smartwatch, to be exact.
“What is this for?” I ask while examining the watch. It's a flat black watch with a silver design on the side. In the middle of the watch, there is something written in there. I think it's the university logo? It's pretty cool.
“That is for messaging purposes. Only those to who you will give access to your account can contact you. I already put you on my contacts so you could just call me whenever you want to ask something,” he explained.
I nodded in response before looking up at him. I raised one eyebrow at him before looking behind him when I noticed the monitor. It says 'Recherche' in color green and at the bottom, it says passed.
“There are rules here at the university that need to be followed and I wanted to formally introduce myself. I am Tycho Erns Sagan, I am the school president and one of the Recherché,” he said without blinking. His emotionless face remained. “Again, welcome to Peculiar University.”
After he said that, he walked out of this room without saying goodbye. I rolled my eyes in the air before following him. He's too rude.
“Where are we going?” I ask with no interest that can be heard in my voice.
“Go to your prospective dorm already. Your class will start tomorrow, you still have time to rest. I will go now,” he says, making me frown.
Do I seem to know the way to my dorm? He obviously didn’t like my presence but I didn’t care. But even before I could complain he put his wristwatch over his lips and spoke, “Call Margaret Dmitry Flint or Martha Katherine Meitner,” he requested.
I raised an eyebrow when I suddenly heard the gentle voice of a woman from the watch. “They are currently in the middle of their class, Sir.” Her voice was calm yet luring at the same time but this guy seems like he doesn't care at all.
He just nodded and hung up the call before continuing walking. That was so disrespectful but I don't care. That's his life, after all. I quietly followed him until we reached my dorm. I no longer pay attention to the surroundings since I will also just see it tomorrow or later.
I'm going to live here for a while so while I'm here, I need to train myself not to do nonsense things. I need to be strong to protect and fight for myself because no one will do that for me. They are still after me so I must not be careless. Everyone can be an anime. I don't know which of them is real or which of them is not true. Those who are hiding under a mask.
“Your dorm is on the top of that building,” he pointed to the tall building that I think was eleven stories or more than eleven. “Since you are already an official student, you don't need to worry about the security system anymore. They can now recognize you because your application is automatically saved in the system. Anyway, I need to go now,” he said and looked at his wristwatch.
I only gave him a small nod before walking toward the building. I stood in front of it and re-examined it. It's really huge. I would probably look dumb standing here but I don't care. I sighed before making my way inside. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by a deafening silence, and no one was inside.
I immediately took the elevator which automatically opened and went uphill. Opening the elevator door I was greeted by the white and black design of the surroundings, there are also sky blue lines in each corner. But, because I really wanted to go to my bed already, I immediately went in and went straight into my room and didn't care about the surroundings.
I immediately threw my body on the soft bed but also immediately winced in pain when I remembered that I still had injuries. Where the shells is your brain go, Clare?
I slowly leaned against the headboard of my bed while relieving the pain from my stomach, wasn't aware that I already fall asleep from that position. I just know that I'm tired even though I already sleep too long.
