Chapter 8 - Penelope
Harley easily socialized with the other cooks and the restaurant staff in his friendly, smiling way, making it hard not to be won by him.
Today would complete one week that he was working with us, and I wasn't sure whether it was good or bad, but... I had already found his weakness... He was the type that fell in love at first sight...
... Easily...
After stored my things in the staff locker, as usual, I came across one rose again when I closed it. The rose was taped in the door and since last week had become something that occurred daily on my door...
"A beautiful rose for a beautiful lady."
He told me on the first day he started working at the restaurant, and me? I even thought he had made the same compliment for all the female staff, but on the next day, I realized he didn't.
When he wasn't busy, he would always make sure to look for me, wanting to know and see what I was doing and if I need help...
He was just like a puppy always following me, and I didn't know how to handle it. At the same time, I was worried that it was how Alex and the other members of the Pack saw me... As a puppy in love.
"What is going on in this beautiful lady's head?"
"How Alex maybe see me..." I answered him without thinking!
"Alex..." Harley spoke as he sat next to me. "Is these your mate's name?"
His question caught me off guard; although I already knew that he was also of some Supernatural being, I had never confirmed or talked to him about this.
"Who are you?" I asked him quickly but still in a low tone since I was the only non-human who worked here until then.
"I think the better question would be, what am I." He told me, laughing. "I'm a witch or a warlock. Or wherever you think is best to call me."
When he spoke to me, his smile, his look, his posture, and even the way his voice sounded like a mischievous child! As he tells me about the wrong things he had done with pride.
Everything in his way reminded me of a child... Even though he was older than me. In a certain way, that was his special charm.
"That explains your scent," I commented because unlike the other races, which always had a smell that indicated what we were, Witches only had an individual scent, a unique one of each one and very similar to that of humans, allowing them to often hide their presence easily among the Humans. "But how do you know what I am?"
"Your aura." Aura, Vital Energy, or Soul Reflex was, apparently, the main source of food for Witches and Mermaids, either from plants, animals, or Humans. "Each race has an aura with different color around their bodies and over it, a normal colorful one from emotions."
"I didn't know about it..."
"I imagined that... I wasn't sure in the beginning, as your color is very light, which only occurs when one person is turned into one of us."
Everything he was telling me was super interesting! Since I was turned, I always lived only with the Pack and knew just a small bit about the other creatures.
In the Pack, we had one Warlock who was mated to a she-wolf and lived in our lands. However, it was rare to see this couple in Pack's House... To my sadness.
Since my life in the Pack started, Vampires were what I knew a little better as I met one personally when I was 12 years old.
An old friend of my father who visits us all the time is one, and it was a shock to discover that, unlike many stories told, they weren't dead bodies or zombies in his words... Only their appearance that was morbid and pale, the reason behind the tales.
Mermaids were still a mystery to me... All I knew about them was from books.
Naturally, they smelled like saltwater for us, and they really were seductive creatures like in the stories...
But it was just that I never met one in person, and the fact that we lived far from the sea didn't help, so I could only hope that one day someone would come back with a Mermaid as a Mate for my happiness.
... When it was time to close-up, Harley called me and said if I wanted to learn more about the witches, we could mark one day to talk about it in my house or his, and I was completed delighted about his idea!
Perhaps because I was born originally as a Human, I loved to learn every detail and difference between the different human races hidden from the light of day under the night...
"So, do you have a date? With the Warlock?" Eli asked me excitedly while she sat on my bed.
"No, I don't. It's more like... A private class or a study group, maybe?" I put my clothes in the closet while I answered her, and though I said it wasn't a date, I wasn't sure if Harley wouldn't think in the same way as Elizabeth.
"C' mon, Penny! He had a crunch on you. It's a date!!!"
"No, it's not!" I answered her firmly so she would stop talking about it, and she just rolled her eyes while I had my doubts...
"Ok... So, when this 'no date' thing will be?"
"Sunday morning." Oh my gosh! How many clothes I have!!!
"What about training?" It seemed to have caught her attention more than the idea about the date.
"I'm going to train on Saturday afternoon. It's a no class day, and I have enough time to go to the restaurant without rushing."
"True... But Alex doesn't train on Saturdays..." A sigh escaped my lips after hearing what she told me...
... Since when did my life revolve around him?
