‘I am no longer afraid,’ Syringa thought. It seemed to her that the sunshine in the garden was more golden than it had been before. It was some time before the Earl came back into the room. And Syringa had been sitting in the window-seat. She rose to her feet almost apprehensively, her eyes searching his face in case Nanny had annoyed him.
