Blake had asked Ace to come back home. His daughter needed her mate beside her, and he could no longer see her frown or pout, and listen to her sob when she thought he and her mother were asleep.
Maria, the ever loving mate, who hadn’t been too eager to see her daughter mated to the young vampire, had actually felt offended that he had asked Ace to leave when Anastasia went on a date with that werewolf Shane without telling her first.
Blake knew that Ace had grown on her ever since he started living with them two years ago, so he let it slide. There weren’t many things Blake and Maria disagreed about. They lived a happy contented life in the US, away from the royal palace.
But their nice little routine was about to be turned upside down, it would seem. They just didn’t know it yet.

Blake’s phone blared just as he and Maria were about to start getting intimate, and he groaned.
“Ignore it,” she let out, her eyes dark with unmistakable desire.
“I can’t,” he scowled.
“It’s not a text,” she pouted at him, and gave him her puppy dog eyes.
It was a rule that Blake always checked his texts, seeing as they were considered as an emergency or a call-for-help, but he did not always answered his calls.
“It’s my ringtone for Jeremiah,” he sighed, looking hesitant to take the call. “And the old geezer never calls.”
Blake was old alright but Jeremiah was older. And he was the head of the vampire council. Suffice to say his calling Blake was making this latter worry.
He truly never called.
What could be so wrong that he had to do so?
“Hello,” Blake greeted dispassionately while Maria frowned.
“Evening, Your Highness.” Blake’s frown deepened. They had almost never been civil with one other. Something was very wrong. “I have grave news.” Straight to the point? That was new. That old snake was usually nothing if not cunning. “The King, your father, is bedridden.”
“Oh?” There was close to nothing that could shock Blake but the news did. His father was a vampire, a strong one, how could he be bedridden?
“You’re a man of your word, I believe?” Jeremiah was even flattering him… such a peculiar feeling!
“I am,” Blake affirmed. “Just be at the gates. I’ll be there in 5.”
