Chapter 3

2115 Words
Hunter’s POV I breathe out a puff of air as I stretch and crack my neck, trying to relieve the tension. I have been working a lot of overtime trying to get a lot of this new software done on time for our clients. I hear a knock on my office door and look at the clock. It is 10:15 pm. I smiled as I called out. “Come in.” There is only one person that comes to my office at 10:15 every night. The door opens and my little sister, Sophia, pokes her head inside first before she comes all the way inside the office. She is holding a silver tray with a tea set for two on it along with two slices of chocolate cake. My sister is the company’s vice president, but she is not very good with computers. She mostly helps with employment and payroll. I smiled at her as she has done this every night that I am stuck in the office working late ever since I took over the company from dad all those years ago. “Good evening, Alpha King. I came to see if my loving brother was able to take a break and join me for a cup of tea?” She said with a smirk. I laugh a deep laugh at her teasing. She is the only one, other than our parents, that can get away with mocking my alpha king title. “I guess since a lovely princess has asked, I will grant your request.” I said, acting like an old king. After a moment of silence, Sophia and I both burst into fits of laughter. “Hahaha, I should tell daddy that you are mocking me again.” Sophia teases me. “Hey, don’t you think you are too old to pull the ‘Daddy’ card anymore?” I asked with a raised brow. Sophia sets the tray down and she holds her chin like she is thinking long and hard about her answer. “Hmmmm… Nope. Just like I will never be too old to call on my big brother.” She said with a sweet smile. I chuckled again. That was true. I would be there for her no matter what, even if she had a mate in her life. Sophia smiles again as she pours the tea into two teacups. I sniffed the aroma that tickled my nose. “Is that lavender?” I asked. Normally we drink black or green tea with my sister’s homemade cakes. Sophia nodded her head with a big smile. “Lavender tea has many good properties… Like it helps reduce stress and anxiety. It improves sleep quality, and best of all it is supposed to help soothe those terrible headaches and migraines you get from time to time.” She said, looking proud of herself. I feel so touched that my little sister went to the trouble of looking for something to help me out. I grabbed her and pulled her into a tight hug. “How did I ever get such a sweet and caring little sister like you?” I asked her while squeezing her tight. Sophia giggled and hugged me back. “You can just thank mom for finding me in that human orphanage and bringing me home.” She said with a big smile. I smiled back at her. Yes, my little sister shares no blood with me at all, but I love her all the same. My wolf, Ares, growled in agreement. My parents only told us about Shopia being adopted back when her wolf, Azeen, first woke up when she was 14. We think her name fits both her and Sophia. Azeen is an old-fashioned word that means eternal beauty, which fits Sophia perfectly since she is beautiful inside and out. She and Ares get along great and my parents thought that it might mean that when Sophia comes of age, we may be possible mates… but we both think that is gross and impossible. Though Sophia and I understand how they can think that. Neither of my parents had siblings, so they never got to feel a bond between siblings. Plus our father has told us that when he was my age, his wolf never got along with anyone’s wolf. Even his best friend and royal beta’s wolf was kept at arm's length until he met mom. That was when his wolf settled down enough to actually get along with others. I believe it is just because Sophia was made my younger sister before I got my wolf and since she became my sister when I was ten. I had already forged a sibling bond with her before my wolf woke up. Though as far as I can tell, my wolf has always been calmer than my father’s wolf. Ares has also told me over and over that Sophia is our little sister. Ares is only ruthless as his name is when someone mistreats someone close to us. Like when some men tried to force themselves on my sister when she was only 16. We both growl at the memory. “So how long do you think you will have to do all this over time?” Sophia asks, breaking me from my thoughts. She sets a piece of cake in front of me. I grab my fork and take a bite and a sip of the lavender tea before I answer. “It might be until we can get a few decent programmers to pick up the slack or something.” I told her honestly. “And by decent programmers… you really mean programmers that are at the top of their class. Right?” She asks with a raised brow. I give her a small smile and nod. She sighed and tapped her finger to her lips. It was a cute little habit she always did when she was thinking long and hard about something. She then picked up her teacup and took a drink before talking to me again. “Well, graduation season is only three months away. If I start looking into it now. I may be able to get first dibs on the top two students at some of the best tech schools. Do you want me to include online students as well?” She asked as she looked up from her tea cup. I thought about it. Normally we go with graduates that actually attend college since they would seem to be more focused on their studies. Not a lot of people have the dedication and integrity to keep up with their lessons and graduate online since they would have the freedom of choosing when they did their work. Sophia had been trying to get me to hire people that take their college courses online for the last couple of years. I was only against it because I thought that they only went online to slack off more. Though I guess these days, it seems like it could go either way. Some people choose to study online just to avoid the party people that go to college just for the perks and fun stuff. While some still go to an actual college to enjoy life outside their homes. “Sure. That sounds like it would be more helpful.” I told her. Sophia smiled at me and nodded. “I will take care of that first thing, tomorrow morning.” She said. I smiled as I drank some more of my tea. My phone buzzed and I looked at the screen. Ares growled in my mind when we saw that it was a text message from Gianna. I picked it up and read her message. Hey there, handsome. We are halfway done filming over here, so I will be coming back within a few months. I love and miss your strong sexy body next to mine every night. Hugs and kisses, my sexy alpha. She ended her message with a winking emoji and a kiss emoji. I groaned as I set my cup down, just as my phone started to ring and Gianna’s name popped up on the screen. I shook my head from side to side. “What is wrong?” Sophia asked. I simply grabbed my cell phone and held it up to her. Sophia read the screen and let out an adorable growl. I pressed the side button and silenced the ringer and ignored Gianna’s call for what seemed to be the hundredth time today. “Why are you not blocking her?” Sophia asked. I sighed. “I have about four times. Apparently, she would just change her number and call me again. Thinking the unknown number would be for a client, I pick up and find her.” I explained. I drink some more of my tea. “At least this way I know not to pick up because it is her on the other end.” I add. “Okay, then why don’t you change your number?” Sophia asked, crossing her arms. “We are way too busy with these projects and deadlines that I can’t focus on changing it and making sure that it has been given to all of our clients.” I state. I would be horrified if I accidentally missed calls from an important client because my number changed. At least this headache would only be kept to me. “Well, this is what you get for playing around with women, big brother. I just feel sorry that Gianna isn’t a wolf because then you could just alpha command her to knock this s**t off.” my little sister said, with both a bit of teasing and truth in her words. “Hey when you have been alone as long as me, then you have needs that need to be satisfied. Besides I only fool around with human women, so when I do find my true mate she would not have to deal with a bunch of she wolves within our kingdom being jealous of her.” I said in my defense. Sophia set her tea cup down and looked at me with a raised eyebrow. “Hunter… any woman would want to be with someone as rich and successful as you. Being the werewolf alpha king just adds to the package even more.” She states. “But-” I say to start to defend myself, but Sophia raises her hand to cut me off. She and mom are the only women who stop me from talking like this. “To humans… Being the alpha of alphas to them is like being in front of a god. You look like you were made out of their very fantasies… and not just your looks. Your voice, aura, hell even your smell is made to draw them to you like honey to bees. Add it all together and you get the target of being wanted by all kinds of crazy. Human or otherwise.” She stated, crossing her arms. I sighed and rubbed my temple. Okay, my little sister has a point. I didn’t even have to try very hard if at all, to get a female in my bed. Though I tried to only keep it to most of it just being for one night of fun. “I mean if Gianna was a witch, then she could have turned you into a toad.” Sophia said with a little laughter in her voice. Trying to bring a bit of humor back into the serious conversation. Now that I think of it… yeah, that could be true. Witches and warlocks were the most humans out of the supernatural world. Normally the easiest way to tell a witch or a warlock apart from a normal human would be their eyes. Their eyes would usually be a bright orange or yellow color, but these days… with all the cosplay and color contacts, it was hard to tell what was real and what was fake. “Alright. I guess I can see where you're coming from.” I said to Sophia. She arches an eyebrow as if she didn’t believe me. I hold my hands up in surrender. “I promise sis, I will put more effort into finding my true mate.” I told her. “I will hold you to that promise, big brother. Now let's go home.” She said, standing up with a smile on her face. I give her a smile in return and stand up grabbing my coat. However, I do wonder when I will even meet my mate if I have not met her already.
