Chapter 9

2555 Words
Carlos’s POV I kneeled down next to Emma and Gamma Spencer. I don’t know what Father was saying about her not being of our blood, but this was not right. Emma was my older sister. I knew I was too much of a coward to stand up to how the family treated her emotionally, but I never once thought father was capable of physically harming Emma. I could see the big dark bruise forming on Emma’s neck and a little bit of blood coming from the corner of her mouth. I could not believe that father’s anger was enough to overcome his wolf’s protective nature and harm one of his pups. “That little b***h got what she deserved!” I heard my father yell out. “Yes, Alpha, Emma started it by hitting Carletta and calling her such disgusting names.” My mother said, trying to cover their asses. I growled lowly at them. My wolf, Callum, was going crazy in my head. He has always been more of a brother to Emma than I ever was… but no more. “All she said was the truth!” I yelled out at them. I have seen how my twin tries to take everything from Emma… but Emma being the good and kind sister she is, never once complained until now. I glared at Carletta still in our mother’s arms. “I don’t know what you did this time, Carletta, but I have told you countless times to leave Emma alone.” I snarled at her. Carletta looked shocked at me. “Carlos! You are my twin! You are supposed to have my back.” She whined, her eyes filling with tears again. I huffed at that. “I would have your back if you were in the right here, but you are always trying to treat Emma as if she was a servant here instead of our sister.” I growled out at her. “But she is not our sister!” Carletta shouted. “She is just some filthy orphan that Mom and Dad took in before we were born.” She snarled at me. I was shocked. Is that why she looked so different from us? ‘That doesn’t matter. Mother and father took her in and their wolves have claimed her as their pup.’ Callum growled out. He is right. He has been this whole time. “Carletta, blood does not matter when it comes to family bonds. The whole pack is like a big family… not all of us share blood but we protect each other and work together to make a life for everyone to live a good life.” I told her. Carletta scoffed at me. “Carlos, we are of beta blood. We are at the top where orphans like that mutt are at the bottom. Why would you accept her as family?” she asked. Callum snarled and pushed himself forward. “Because she has more kindness and heart than you ever will you pathetic slut!” He roared through my body. I could see my mother and sister’s shocked faces when met with my wolf’s aura and tone. “Even if she is of no blood relations to us, she has still loved and cared for us over the course of our lives. I don’t know what you have done to tip her over the edge tonight, but she has never once hit you before tonight.” He snarled. I recalled all the times that my twin has treated our sister horribly. At first, I let it go because Emma never seemed bothered by it. It just seemed like the youngest was always trying to get our mother and father’s attention. Now I can see the pure hate in my sister’s eyes. Carletta truly hates Emma with every fiber of her being. I noticed that the pack doctor and a nurse had come inside as Carletta glared at me. “She hit me because I found out that she was a cheating slut. I told Nate about how I saw Emma getting all close and snuggly with Alpha Austin.” Carletta screamed out. That made everyone freeze. “What the hell are you talking about?!” Alpha Austin roared. Carletta whined a bit at his alpha aura, but she whipped out her phone and opened it up to a photo. “I caught her in the act of seducing the alpha right in front of the pack house earlier today!” Carletta screamed. I looked at the photo and it was of Alpha Austin sitting on the steps of the pack house with Emma straddling his lap. His arms were around her waist and Emma’s face was flushed. Alpha Austin let out a roar as he tossed my father over towards my mother and sister. He was not letting any of them out of his sight. “If you think you know everything then, let me tell you this… Emma tripped on the steps and almost fell on her face. I was barely fast enough to catch her before she ended up with a mouth full of stone. Me being unbalanced made me fall on my butt while holding onto Emma.” Alpha Austin growled out. “Oh sure you would say anything to save face in front of your rank members. How can we know for certain? If you are able to take a cheating w***e like Emma away from one of your warriors, how can we trust you when my brother or Gamma Spencer finds their mates!” Carletta accused. ‘Is she mental?’ Callum asked through our link. ‘Accusing an alpha of such a hideous act like that could get her banished or killed.’ He added. Before anyone could say anything another smack sounded out through the tensed air. I looked up to see that Ava was now in the house. She was standing in front of Carletta with her hand raised. “I dare you to say that again.” Ava growled. “Ava! When did you get here?” Gamma Spencer asked. “Around the same time that Dr. Walker was taking my best friend out of here and towards the hospital.” She said, not looking away from my sister. I turned to see a small pool of blood on the rug, but Emma was no longer here. I was so focused on my family and the alpha that I never noticed they left. “My brother, your alpha, has always made it clear to everyone how he feels about everyone in this pack finding their true mate, and you stand here accusing him of sleeping with his beta’s daughter… when the only child from the beta family that is sexually active is you, Carletta Davis.” Ava said “What?! How could you accuse me of…” Carletta was cut short by Alpha Austin’s roar. “I have a pack member in the hospital and have no desire to play ring around the rosie with you all night. So let us skip the lies and get the full truth out now?” Alpha Austin stood up straight and stared right at Carletta. “I, Alpha Austin of the Blood Stone Pack, hereby order you, Carletta Davis, to speak only the truth from this point on.” He said in his alpha tone. With our alpha using his alpha voice, a pack member will have no choice but to follow his command. This means that my sister will have to say nothing but the truth until he has released his alpha command on her. I saw her back straighten up and her eyes widen in shock. “Now let us start with something easy… Carletta Davis, are you still a virgin?” Alpha Austin asked. Carletta’s hands balled into a fist and I saw her biting her lip. She was trying to not answer. “You know the more you fight your alpha’s command, the more painful it will become, you stupid girl.” Ava spat out. Carletta turned to growl at her, but that only earned her a growl from Alpha Austin. His growl only made the power behind his command intensify even more. Carletta dropped to her hands and knees. “N-no. I am not a virgin.” She whimpered. Mother gasped as Father’s head snapped to her. “Who have you been messing with? We all know that you are still too young to find your mate.” Alpha Austin asked. Carletta struggled a bit before she was forced to answer again. “I would fool around with some of the warriors. Though it was not always easy as some of them were terrified of being killed for sleeping with the beta’s daughter.” She said I was feeling sick to my stomach. Carletta has been fooling around with different men, yet she calls Emma the slut. “Alpha, may I please go and check on my sister?” I asked my voice low. Carletta gasped. “Carlos, you are supposed to protect me. I am your only sister. I am your twin?!” She shouted. I scoffed at her. “I am ashamed that we ever shared the womb together. From this day forward, Emma is my only sister. I no longer have a twin.” I could see the hurt pass in Carletta’s eyes before they turned into hatred and rage. “You are choosing that mongrel over your own flesh and blood?!” She screamed. I snarled and stormed over to her. “Watch what you call my sister, Carletta… because mom and dad may have been wrapped around your finger too tight or whatever their reason, but I have seen Emma for who she truly is.” I snarled. Thinking back now, my being too scared of losing my parent’s love was the only reason I never loved her more openly, but that never stopped Emma from loving me. She would care for me when I was sick. She always helped me understand my schoolwork. She was there for me when Mom and Dad were too busy with Carletta to even give me the time of day. Emma made it so I never felt as alone as she did. “Carlos, you may go and check on your sister. I will finish things up here. I will speak to you more about this matter later.” Alpha Austin said, excusing me from the area. I bowed my head to him and turned to run out of the house. I ran towards the hospital, mentally kicking myself for not being a better brother for Emma. Ever since Callum woke up. He has always pushed me to protect Emma more from being scolded by our parents. To protect her when other kids were being mean to her just to make Carletta happy. I will regret not doing it sooner, but I will make up for all the time lost now. I pause for a few minutes to catch my breath. I feel nervous. ‘Will Emma even still love me, knowing we are not family?’ I asked Callum. I know her not being my biological sister makes no difference to me, but Emma… may not want anything to do with me because of how excluded Mom and Dad made her feel. Not to mention how Carletta has always treated her. ‘It may take time, but Emma is kind and loves us. We will just have to prove to our sister that she is the only family we need from now on.’ Callum said. I gulped and then headed to the nurses' station. “Excuse me… I am here to see my sister. Emma Davis?” I asked. The nurse was an older lady with her brown hair in a high bun. I could see a few streaks of grey in her hair. “Yes young Beta Carlos, one moment let me check her file.” She said in a grandmother tone. After typing on her keyboard for a couple of minutes. “Here we go. Emma is in stable condition. She had a case of whiplash. She also had two cracked ribs and one broken rib. The broken rib caused some internal bleeding, but Dr. Walker got that under control quickly.” I clenched my fists and started to chew on my bottom lip. I thank the moon goddess that Father’s kicks didn’t do anything worse. He is a strong wolf. I mean he is the beta for a reason. “She is sleeping soundly in room number 128. Please keep the volume low as you go inside. I nod to her. “Yes ma’am, and thank you.” I said before running down the hallway. Room 128. Room 128. Room 128. Room 128. I kept repeating the room number in my head as I glanced from door to door. I finally make it to Emma’s room and take one more deep breath. ‘I will take it nice and slow. I will be the kind of brother I should have been from the start.’ I said to myself as I grabbed the door handle. I turned the handle and quietly opened the door. I poked my head inside first. The room was dark and quiet. I sniffed and caught Emma’s scent, but it was a little bit faded from the smell of medicine and chemicals around the hospital. I walk inside and see that the curtain is closed around her bed. I walked closer, but something didn’t feel right. Instead of her scent getting stronger… it was staying the same as it was when I was by the door. “Emma, I came to see how you were doing.” I said, gently as I pulled back the curtain. I gasped as I saw that her bed was empty. There were patches of blood from where the needles were ripped out and left. I dashed out of the room and grabbed the first nurse I saw. “My sister! She is not in her room!” I yelled out. At first, she looked at me as if I was crazy until I showed her to Emma’s empty room. The nurse then pushed a couple of buttons on Emma’s bed and an alarm was sounded. Dr. Walker came running into the room within seconds. “What happened?” He asked as he looked around. “Where is Emma!?” he shouts as he sees her empty bed. I shook my head. “I don’t know. I just got here a few minutes ago to check on her, but she was not here when I got here.” I told him. “This is not good. Emma should not be walking around with those injuries.” Dr. Walker said. I looked over at him. “What? But I thought she was stable!” I said. “We did get her stable, but she is supposed to be on bed rest for a few days. If she is walking around in her state, then she could start to bleed again.” He informs me. I feel the air leave my body as I sink down to my knees. I look out towards the moon in the sky. Oh Emma, where could you have gone?
