Chapter 18
Ivy stared in disbelief at the blazing wreath for a split second before Shelly’s voice rang out from beside the fireplace.
“Hey, Ives! Catch!” Her sister heaved a small red fire extinguisher toward her as people ducked out of the way, and children screamed.
Ivy caught the extinguisher, jerked out the pin, and released the locking mechanism. Gritting her teeth, she aimed it straight above Rowan’s head.
No time to think. Just act.
“Duck!” Ivy yelled.
While Bennett pushed Rowan to the floor, she unleashed a stream of flame retardant, sweeping it back and forth until the flames were out. In the corner of her eye, she saw Chief Paula racing toward the smoking wreath.
Shaking from the adrenaline rush, Ivy lowered the empty canister and caught her breath.
