The last werewolf standing

Chapter 2

When the bell rings I gather my stuff and walk out of the classroom, ignoring the whispers around me like I used to. Guys are talking about my body like it’s theirs and telling each other what they would do with it, while I can hear the nasty comments of the girls. They have of course no idea that I can hear them so they use no filter at all.

Once I even overheard Hedwig, one of the mean girls in my class, planning to lure me into the forest and scare me to death with scary costumes, they thought I will be so scared that they will need to lock me up in a mental hospital. They wanted me out of the picture, but their plan failed because I just didn’t follow them into the woods, simple as that.

Some of their remarks sounded so stupid, I couldn’t hold my laugher back so some of them thought I am crazy when I laughed out loudly out of nowhere. Everybody wanted a piece of Chris so most of the girls hated me out of jealousy. I don’t hold him back though, I told him he can go and be with someone else if he wants to, but he told me he loves only me and he doesn’t care about anyone else. He always defended and protected me in the front of those crazy and obsessed girls, even though I didn’t need protection, but he didn’t really know that.

“Angie… Angie…” I hear Lara calling my name so I turn around to see her running towards me like a mad woman.

“Slow down Lara, what’s going on?” I ask her with a laugh. She looks funny, her brown hair is all over the place and her face is flushed from running.

“Hayes Wright …wants to invite you… to his party on this weekend.” She says breathlessly and I let out a chuckle.

“Calm down Lara.” I tell her but she just start jumping up and down.

“You don’t understand, he invited me too, can you believe this, he invited me, a no one.” She says excitedly. She has a crush on him since kindergarten.

“That’s great, you must definitely go.” I tell her with a grin.

“What do you mean ‘you’? ‘We’ must go. Your birthday is on Saturday so we can go to his party on Friday. See? I thought about everything.” She says excitedly and I shake my head.

“I can’t Lara, yes, my birthday is on Saturday, but I want to stay with Nana on Friday and I have something else to do as well so I can’t go, but you just go ahead and have fun.” I tell her and she looks at me with her puppy eyes. I will turn into my wolf on Friday midnight, but nobody knows that.

“Pretty please Angie, I can’t go alone when you are the one he likes, can’t you come after you are done with your things?” She asks desperately so I stop for a moment to think about it.

I will turn by midnight, then I will go for a run , maybe I will be done around one AM if everything will go as planned.

I look at Lara and her pleading eyes and let out a sigh. She is my best and only friend except Chris and she was always there for me in good and bad times too.

“Alright, but I won’t make it before one AM.” I tell her and before I can finish she throws herself at me while screaming happily.

“Thank you, thank you , thank you… you are the best Angel.” She says and hugs me tightly. I let out a laugh and hug her back.

“Okay…okay, calm down Lara.” I tell her and pull away. “I need to talk to Chris about it first. Was he invited too?” I ask her.

“I don’t think so, I think Hayes wants to talk to you alone and seduce you.” She says while she wriggles her eyebrows. She is head over heels for the guy but she is joking about him having a crush on me. See? She is the best friend I could ask for.

“Alright, then here is the plan… I will come and till I get there, you can hang out with him. You need to be s*xy and try to act like you don’t fall for his charms. Try to be friendly, funny and a good company so he will want to have you. If you offer yourself to him on a silver plate he won’t be interested.” I explain to her and she nods her head while she is listening.

“Hey girls.” We look towards the voice to see Chris is making his way to us with a wide smile while I can see girls are blushing behind him.

“Hi Chris. Are you coming to Hayes party?” Lara asks him before I can even greet him.

“Hmmm… no. Why would I, we are enemies, remember?” He says in a bored tone while he wraps his arms around me. “Hi ,baby.” He whispers and presses a kiss onto my cheek.

“Hi.” I smile at him and look back at Lara.

“Maybe because he invited Angie.” She says matter of factly and Chris narrows his eyes at her before looking at me.

“He did?” He asks and I shrug my shoulders.

“She says he did, she was begging me to go till now.” I tell him while I roll my eyes.

“Are you going?” He asks and I shrug my shoulders once again.

“No.. no.. no, you already agreed, you can’t take that back.” Lara says and I let out a sigh.

“Actually I want to spend my Friday with Nana and I have also something to take care of in the evening, but I will be done around one AM so I told Lara I will come by just to help her. You know she has a crush on Hayes since forever.” I explain it to Chris who lets out a sigh.

“Then I am coming too, what he was thinking, he will invite my girl and I won’t tag along?” He says calmly, but I can hear the anger in his tone. I let out a laugh to lighten his mood and he looks at me lovingly.

“You know that he doesn’t have a chance, right? I just want to help Lara by going.” I tell him and he nods his head.

“Alright, should I pick you up at one then?” He asks and I nod my head.

“Yes, please.” I tell him and Lara is jumping up and down excitedly.

“Thank you guys, you are the best.” She says and hugs us both before disappearing into the crowd. We look at each other and we let out a laugh on her silliness.

“See you by lunch?” He asks and I nod my head and we both go on our separate ways to our next class. He follows his friends while I walk alone since Lara just left me here.

“Angel.” I look to my left to see the one and only Hayes with a smug smirk on his face. He stands in the front of me, too close to my liking so I take a step back.

“Hayes?” I wait for him to tell me what he wants. He looks good, I must admit with dark brown hair and green eyes, but Chris is more handsome than him.

“I just wanted to invite you personally to my party this Friday.” He says while he scratches the back of his neck when I don’t answer right away. I like the effects I have on boys, I make them nervous when they talk to me and it’s kind of funny.

“I heard from Lara, but I don’t know… I have a lot of things to do on Friday since my birthday is on Saturday so maybe I can step in after one am, if that’s okay with you.” I tell him with a smile and I swear he is blushing a little.

“Y-yeah.. I mean it’s no problem at all, just come when you finish, I mean when you are free.” he says, he is kind of adorable when he is nervous.

“Cool, can I bring a plus one?” I ask him.

“Sure thing.” He says while he doesn’t take his dreamy eyes off of my face. I am not even sure he knows what I asked at all.

“Can you look out for my best friend till I get there? I am worried about her, she is too pretty to wander around alone.” I tell him and he salutes jokingly.

“Of course I will ma’am.” He says with a chuckle and I let out a laugh. He is funny, I can see why Lara likes him.

“Alright, see you on Friday then.” I walk past him with a small wave and he smiles at me before walking away with a quiet ‘yay’ and a fist bump in the air. I hope Hayes won’t be too disappointed when I show up with Chris, I want Lara to be happy so I hope they will get along. I need to talk to Lara after school and give her some more advice on how she should behave around him if she wants to seduce him and how she shouldn’t.

I make my way to my next class and wish for the day to be over already. I just want to go home and read the book I finally managed to get from the library. I love reading and since I can’t talk to anyone about our kind, I always read about us in books. I have read every single book I found about werewolves so now I am reading about everything what I find interesting.
