James and his community counterpart were busy in the gold mine mining cold, the day was very hot Henry hurried to the cold mine while their family was on the farm cultivating their crops, others were looking after their cattle some were in the shopping center doing business.
They heard the gunshot.
"To the caves!" James shouted.
Since the villagers often encounter gunshots, they didn't hesitate they run to the caves to take cover, Henry had a young family he ran as fast as he could to save his wife and children.
"Marry was and the kids!" Henry shouted
Marry ran with her daughter holding her in her hand and the boy rushed to his father.
"Let's run fast the militia are on the way coming!" Henry bellowed
"To which direction? " Mary asked
"To the caves," Henry said as they ran
All the people from the community ran towards the cave the militia were approaching closer to the community.
" Take cover and as you ran we don't have to lose life this time around!" James said loudly
The miners took whatever they had mined, and ran to the abandoned mine to take cover.
Women and children were the first to be allowed to enter the caves since they knew how dire the situation was, they entered the caves and kept quiet
The rebels came and find no one in the village they took there whatever they got it was not much.
"Where are these people? " Samuel shouted
"Where are you!" He shouted
The people in the caves heard women and children were very frightened
"Henry, what are we going to do?" Mary asked
"Calm down it shall be well" Henry responded.
They heard the gunshot militant shooting in the air
"That shows their frustration they didn't get what they want," James said
"That is true they will soon go" Henry responded.
"Thank God you resigned from the military for you to come to help us," Joshua village elder said
"Don't worry this isn't enough first I need to train young boys in self-defense tactics, also I need to train them how to escape gunshots before we go and secure our guns" James said
"You are Godsend please do so even me I need to be trained in self-defense tactics, "Joshua said
The rebels went away the villagers heard them chanting as they go away.
James and Henry went to confirm if they have gone away.
They observed keenly they saw in a distant smoke hovering on a hut, they keenly walked slowly as they take cover they found three militants roasting meat to eat.
"They are eating," Henry said
They used the military sign language meaning let's kill them
They jumped into the hut surprised the rebels killed them using their bare hands and took their ak47 riffles and round of ammunition.
"This is a good start," Henry said.
"We are going to use them to go through the military barracks to secure ammunition," James said
"For the meantime, we are going to train people using these guns," Henry said
Henry and James went back to the caves to call the villagers back to their homes.
"They are gone come on and continue doing your errands" James shouted
People came out of the caves and back to their homes. ln, a distance they saw people running from where the rebels went, James and Henry pointed their guns towards them ready to shoot.
"Stop there!" James shouted
They raised their hands high up to surrender.
"Move closer" Henry shouted
"They moved closer" James shouted.
Henry searched them to ascertain if they have any weapons.
"What is this" James said
The stranger had a bomb on his jacket but it had a safety pin, it was not active.
Henry wanted to shoot but James advised him not to shoot using military signs.
"Sorry sir I wanted to use the bomb to escape in case we were abducted by the militia, they are merciless people," he said
"What is your name, " James asked
"My name is John we escape from the militia it was a narrow escape, Sir," he said
The villagers were very surprised how James and Henry got the rifles and how they acted when the stranger's tress passed the village.
"Bravo!" Joshua the village elder said
"We now have the village heroes here, I want to know how to shoot the g*n," Joshua said
Sir, you will know, but first, you must know how to hold a g*n, safety is the priority" James said
"Who are those lying on the group," Joshua asked
"They are the militia who were left behind enjoying our food" Henry responded
"Let our men go and dump them," James said
The men came and took the bodies of the rebels while James and Henry led the escapees to go and feed them.
"Thanks very much, we've not eaten for weeks we were surviving by eating wild fruits in the bush" John responded
James went and brought some food and water for them.
"You eat then later you tell us about all about the militia group," James said.
The men ate the food later they assembled themselves outside the house under the shade since it was very hot.
"Welcome to our village we are poor but we share the little we have, but it is as a result of the militia that made us very poor, all our economic activities have been disrupted by the militia group " Henry reiterated
"I see you are six men could you introduce yourself," James said
John stood and emotionally cried.
"Thank you for your welcome, we passed through hell in their hands, we were captured from our village in the northern side they invaded our village took all our possession killed people who didn't cooperate, but us we cooperated and we were in their hands for about three months " John elaborated
"How did you manage to escape a very secured militia camp," James asked
"We are ex-soldiers we had to come up with the plan, we were kept in a Gage at night we lied that one of us has fainted and when one of them came in, we had to beat him up and took the g*n from him," John said
"Wonderful you're Godsend like angles you will give us intelligence information about the strength of the militia, and also which part of the camp is porous," Henry asked.
"The western side of the camp has not manned the place which is heavily manned is their commander's house and armory, that is to the Eastern side" John reiterated.
"If we want to attack we will use the "Western side of the camp?" James asked
"Yes the western side is porous there are no bombs implanted as a trap" John explained.
"Do they have sniffer dogs in the camp?" Henry asked
"No there are no sniffer dogs but soldiers are patrolling twenty-four hours" John explained
"How about the watchtower where are they? James asked.
" There is only one watchtower that is at the main gate" John reiterated
"Which means in the whole camp about twenty kilometers square there is only one watchtower" Henry responded
"Yes sir," John said
There was an eerie silence, it was approaching evening in the village the smoke hovered in the sky, you could hear the sounds of wild animals in the distance, young boys brought the cattle back to the camp, whilst the women fetched water for others coming from the forest bringing firewood on their head others from the stream to fetch water young girls and boys played at the field, young men came from the mine with gold very tired.
James and Henry were very touched to see the villagers are optimistic about life, besides the village, there was a cemetery where people who have been murdered by the militia were buried. Besides that people. were optimistic.
"Thank you for your information," James said emotionally to John
"let me introduce you to this village," James said.
John and his friends welcomed James and Henry took them around the village.
"Here is where we live, and the place we treasure, look at the mine we fight because of these resources, rich people use divide and rule for us to fight and that become an opportunity for them to take our resources," Henry said emotionally.
"What happened to where your village? Henry asked.
"I come from the northern part of our country Democratic Republic of Congo we were invaded by the same militia by the name Jacob the thunder, he killed everyone I and my friends escaped narrowly thank our military tactics, they kept us because we fought them for a long time the bullets were exhausted in our guns Jacob commanded that we captured alive and took us to the camp?" John narrated.
John and his friends felt at home, they were happy to get a place they will call home.
