Prologue It had been yet another shitty day at my awful new school. I moved out here to America, Huntington Beach, OC, with my mom a little while ago. After she and dad decided to get a divorce, She just spontaneously decided that she wanted a fresh start as well. So two days later, She tells me to pack up my things and that we were moving away. No other information was given because, at that point, I'm sure he had no clue where we would end up.  To say I was upset was a bit of an understatement. My brothers had decided to stay with dad over in England while I knew I could never leave my mom. I walked up the long drive way to our big house, I don't know how mom could afford it, It was a-hell-of a lot bigger than the one we had in England and that was for five of us. Over here it's just me and her.  I questioned her about it and she just said some thing along the lines of, She had some money saved up.. which, I knew wasn't true, but I stopped the subject.  We had an amazing home, It wasn't really my place to question her anymore about it.  I took my keys out of my back pack and unlocked the door, Mom was supposed to be at work today, She found a really cool job as a bar maid, But in the short time we've been here she's already managed to become a manager! Which was pretty f*****g impressive. She said it was only a temporary job until she found some thing better, but I doubt that. I'm happy for her she loves her job.  I've never been there though, To where she works. I was still a couple of months shy of 18, So, What was the point? I couldn't drink.  Not that I wanted to go there any way, Bars smell like smoke and there are always the weird, drunken old guy who makes a fuss.  All I knew about it, was that the bar was some where down by the pier and that her boss is call Stephen... Or some thing like that. As I walked through the hall way, I heard a noise in the kitchen and went to have a look at what was going on. I was a little surprised to see that my mom was in there, She was supposed to be at work right now, getting things set up and ready for when they opened, As it was Friday, Tonight was meant to be a very busy night, Well that's what she always told me.  That wasn't what surprised me though. What DID surprise me was the fact she wasn't alone.  Standing with her, Was a very tall looking guy, The part that made me stop was the fact that he had his arms wrapped around my her waist and he had his head resting on her shoulder. She was giggling too.  Wow, I haven't heard that in a while. I cleared my throat awkwardly and leaned against the door frame, waiting for them to notice me. My mom turned around and had a look of shock on her face when she saw me. Why was she shocked or surprised? She knew I'd be home from school soon...  'How come your home mom?' I asked, confused. 'Oh, Hi honey, It's my day off, I must have forgotten to tell you this morning.' She said in a happy tone.  Who ever this guy is, He clearly really makes her happy.  Just then I heard shouting coming from the front room that was just down the hall from the kitchen, It sounded like who ever it was, Was watching a Foot ball Match, There was more than one voice, I counted at least two, maybe three or more. I turned back around to my mom and smiled, before walking over to the counter in the middle of the room.      'Did you have a Good day at school honey?' She always asked me that and my answer was always the same. 'No mom, Huntington Beach High School is shittier than ever.' I said in a bored tone. That was my response when ever she asked me. You'd think she would learn that by now. I know, it's not that bad but I don't get along with any one there, I don't have any friends and all the teachers are fuckers but I know over time I'll learn to live with it with out complaining. 'It's not that bad you know, I went there, I'm surprised it's still standing. Me and my friends really put that place through the wringer.' The man suddenly spoke up. It seemed to be an inside sort of joke so he chuckled lightly. He didn't turn around though. He was washing up some plates.  I shot a look at my mom, She gave me a quick smile before walking over to the man by the sink. She placed a hand on his shoulder and looked back over to me. 'Katie, There's some thing I need to tell you' She said in a tone she only uses when she's worried about some thing important. I heard it all the time back home back in England, With..... with my Dad. 'By any chance does it have something to do with the big strange man stood in the middle of the kitchen washing up, Even though we actually have a dishwasher?.' She smiled and he laughed out loud. Just then I heard people coming from the front room. 'You know, Your mother never actually told me that'. He joked. 'Yo, Richie, What is so funny?.' I heard one of them say. 'Nothing.' Was his response. 'Katie, This is my boss Stephen'. She stated, Pointing to some one standing behind me. I turned around and almost fainted. 'And his friends' She added on the end. I turned around slowly to face my mom. She was smiling even wider now. 'And this....' She said, Looking up at the man who still had his back to me. 'Is Richie...My boy friend' She added the last little bit after a small pause.  So mother had a boy friend. No wonder she was so happy all the time. I knew it! Fair f*****g play, He was hot. Like, Insanely hot, and to be honest... so we're his friends so were his friends!  I stood there with my mouth hanging open, just in complete and utter shock. Staring at my mom's new boy friend, Well new to me any way, Who knows they could have been dating a while, and some thing tells me they were considering she's been acting weird for a little while. I looked at my mom as she and her new beau were both looking at me. He had on his cute dimpled smile.  I tried to say some thing but I was still in complete and utter shock, My mom smiled at me when she saw my smile of approvement... She knew I had no problem with it, Mom wasn't happy for a very long time when she was with dad, And now, you can tell by the look on her face she was sooooo happy, And I love seeing her like it. I'm not going to lie, Knowing she had kept him from me, kept a secret like that for so long did hurt my feelings, but, I'm sure she had her reasons. I'll have to remember to ask her what exactly they were. 'Hey Katie, I've heard a lot about you...'
