Alexie:
It's the eyes that give her away. What captivated me without her so much as glancing in my direction. Her demeanor is deadly. Each step perfectly calculated to counter an attack. Those eyes scan the room every so often. I never thought I'd find what they all kill each other over. I never believed the legends before now. Mates. Love at first sight. All of it sounds like a load of s**t. Yet I can't bring myself to look away or move for that matter.
She took a seat at the bar. Her back is to me. Skin tight, black skinny jeans outlining her curves perfectly. Her blue fitted shirt peaked out from the bottom of her black leather jacket. She placed a white and blue helmet on the bar in front of her and ordered a drink. Liquor from the top shelf. Straight not mixed with anything fruity. What had caught my attention from the instant she walked in was her long almost jet black hair pulled up into two high pigtails. She had been twirling them in her hands trying to fix them after removing her helmet.
"See something you like, Lex?" my brother asked.
"Who is that?" I asked pointing her. He laughed.
"No one really knows. She blew into town a few weeks ago. Tough girl. Doesn't f**k with no one, makes sure no one f***s with her," I nodded.
"Who does she work for?"
"No one. Independent. Takes the missing kids and woman s**t no one else does. Makes bank from that. Take it from me, bro. She's trouble," I nodded letting him know I was done questioning him.
A group of guys walked in probably already drunk from another bar. Their laughter boomed over the mindless chatter already echoing through the tavern. It bothered her. It was like she knew something the rest of us didn't. Her body tensed as she lifted the glass to her lips and took a drink from the glass cup. She pushed one of her pigtails back over her shoulder. The ends of her waves reached about halfway down her back. I can see her calm passive expression in the mirror in front of her.
"Hey you," someone called out. We both know it was directed at her. She pushed her other pigtail back. Now, the two of them at equal length down her back. "I'm talking to you sweetheart. Don't ignore me," the i***t pushed stumbling into the empty stool next to her.
She turned her attention to him. Those tantalizing eyes of hers scanned him with displeasure before she looked away like there was nothing next to her. Hyde, the bartender smiled shaking his head. The scrutinizing gaze alone would have any sane man backing the hell up. Those silver eyes of hers are a signature color. The intensity of them was enough to let you know she isn't just some common wolf. She's the wolf and if she isn't the wolf she's up there with whoever the wolf is. Wolves like her are on their own by choice.
"Walk away and I won't break your teeth," she warned letting out a low menacing growl.
The sound of her voice raised goosebumps all over my skin. That little growl is like a sweet purr to my ears. I want to hear that sound again but for now, her little display will have to do. That i***t sat up next to her and ordered her another drink. Her shoulder raised as if she took a deep breath and slowly lowered to their original position as she let it back out.
"Come on, baby. Don't be like that,"
I was on my feet when he reached for her hair. The anger in me burned and cutting off his f*****g hand will be the only thing that can help me now. His fingertips didn't reach her hair. I froze in my spot when she took the drink he had gotten her in her hand. She smacked the cup on his forehead and shoved him off the stool. It happened all in a split second. The three other idiots that were with him were on their feet before anyone could make a move. I growled making everyone but her look back at me.
"Pick him up and get the hell out of here," I demanded. Two of them rushed over to the i***t on the floor and took him with them.
Her head turned slightly to the right at the sound of my voice. Her body had already been tense before now. Her entire demeanor trembled with each step I took towards her. She caught on and straightened up again taking a deep breath before relaxing. She asked Hyde for another drink. I sat to her left without saying a word.
After a few minutes, the sound of her taking a deep breath pleased me. I took a breath of my own and was almost level with the bittersweet scent of her. Strawberries with a hint of something expensive. Very exquisite.
"You almost lost it," she said after Hyde walked away. A little playful smile on her lips.
"Lost what?" I asked looking at her beautifully manicured hands. The fingers of her right hand lightly gripped the glass as she lifted it up to her lips and took a drink. Her manners are impeccable. She's definitely a long way from home.
"Your self-control," she answered. Those eyes barely glancing at me.
I can easily say I am more than pleased to see the dark red lipstick delicately coating her lips. She caught me looking and smiled showing me her pearly white straight teeth. How is that even possible? Who thinks teeth are beautiful? They're teeth. To make it all worse, she took the end of her lip between her teeth and pulled before taking another drink. I looked away feeling my body grow tense.
"You saw me when you walked in?" I asked. She let out a soft chuckle that sent goosebumps over my skin again.
"I caught your scent as soon as I walked in. It was you who spotted me first,"
"That's why you were looking around?" I asked.
"Among other things," she smiled.
"What's your name, trouble?"
"Why would I give you that if you've already named me?" she laughed. The smile on her face made my own.
"I'll tell you my name," she smiled and I took that as an okay. "I'm Alex,"
"You wouldn't have to be that Alex would you?" she asked. I turned to look at her. Her eyes met my own. What the hell is she?
"That Alex?"
"Alex Victor," I smiled. Nerves set in wondering what the hell she had heard.
"That would be me," I sighed. "And you are?"
"Trouble," she smirked putting two twenties on the bar. "I have work to do right now. I'll see you around Mr. Victor. Tell your brother I said the next time I have to change a wheel on my bike I'm going to shove my boot in his ass and I don't mean that figuratively,"
I just sat there with my mouth open as she picked up her helmet and walked out of the bar. My brother came and sat next to me taking the half-empty glass before drinking the rest of it. Hyde came over and took the money she had left and the shards of glass from the glass she used to hit that i***t with.
"She dissed you hard my brother," he and Hyde laughed.
"You slashed her tires?" I asked looking at him.
"Three times," he admitted leaning on the bar. "We were investigating a disappearance by the pier,"
"That's the girl that f****d you up three weeks ago?" I laughed.
"Please tell me you just like how she looks," he said. I didn't answer. "f**k. I can't believe that f*****g monster is yours,"
"You said she was a nobody," I said looking over at him.
"She was," he said walking off.
