After school, Chloe, Damon, Bryan, and Angel met as planned. They went to a cafe, got some snacks, and hung out there.
“So, Bryan, why did you transfer schools in your senior year?” Chloe as curiously as she took a bite of the cupcake in her hand.
“We just moved here. We used to stay in New York.” Bryan replied.
“Wow!” Chloe exclaimed, a smile curling on her lips. “A New Yorker. You’d know how to party then.”
“Not at all.” Brayan shook his head, a small smile touching his lips.
“I’m surprised. Anyway. Why did you move here?” She continued with her questions.
“Chloe!” Angel cautioned, a small frown masking her features. She was asking him too many personal questions.
“What?” She rolled her eyes.
“Don’t make him uncomfortable.” Angel said.
“No, it’s okay.” Bryan quickly said, “My parents recently got separated, so my mom moved back to her home town, which is here. I followed her.”
“I’m so sorry.” Angel said, feeling bad for him. Experiencing his parent’s separation must be so hard on him. She couldn’t even imagine how she would feel if her parents ever separated.
“I’m sorry.” Chloe also muttered.
“It’s okay.” Bryan smiled sadly. “I’m over it now.”
Damon cleared his throat. “Let’s do something fun."
“Why are you insensitive?" Chloe frowned at Damon. “Can’t you read the mood?”
“His parents got separated. Should he drown himself in sorrow?” Damon raised a brow at her.
When he didn’t get any response from her, he went ahead and replied himself. “Exactly, no. So, what should we do?”
“I thought we came here to do the English project together." Angel asked, raising a brow.
“Come on, let’s have fun; we’ll do the assignment later.” Damon told her, grinning.
Angel subconsciously turned to look at Bryan, only to realise that he had been looking at her. Her heart skipped a beat when their eyes met, and her body heated up. What was wrong with her? She thought as she quickly averted her gaze.
A strong will within her was pressing her to take another glimpse of Bryan, but she defied that will.
“Should we play truth or dare?” Chloe suggested.
Everyone agreed with her.
I’ll go first.” Damon said. “Chloe, do you love any other man aside from me?"
“No. You are the only love of my life.” Chloe affirmed.
“Of course.” Damon smiled pridefully.
“My question goes to Bryan.” Chloe said, and Bryan settled his attention on her. “Do you have a girlfriend?”
“No.” He simply replied.
“Are you willing to have one?” She asked another question.
“Oh, oh.” Damon chimed in, shaking his index finger. “That’s against the rules. You only have a chance to ask one question."
Chloe rolled her eyes and leaned back on her seat. “Fine. Bryan, your turn.”
“My question goes to Angel.” Bryan said, looking at her.
Angel turned to look at him, and their eyes met. Her heart skipped a beat again. But this time, she didn’t avert her gaze. Whatever game her heart was trying to play, it would end soon, she thought.
“Why do you dislike me?” He shot the question at her.
“I don’t dislike you.” She simply replied.
“Okay.” He sighed.
"Angel, it's your turn.” Chloe said.
“Bryan, I dare you to walk down the block and back."
“Angel! That’s mean!” Chloe exclaimed.
She didn’t care. She just wanted Bryan out of her sight so that her heart would have the chance to recover from whatever was making it malfunction. Because why was it beating fast at the sight of Bryan?
“I’ll be right back.” Bryan didn’t complain as he leapt to his feet and walked out of the cafe.
“You are unbelievable.” Chloe scoffed at her as she also leapt to her feet and started walking away. “I want to use the restroom.”
After Chloe was out of sight, Damon moved closer to Angel and told her what he had been meaning to tell her since he saw her compel Maddison.
“I can see that you are a good learner.” He grinned.
Her lips curled into a smile. “Of course.“
The smile on her face dropped, and Damon quickly asked. “What’s wrong?”
“I compelled my brother yesterday, and I feel bad about it.” She told him.
“What was the compulsion?” He asked.
She sighed. “He saw me drinking blood. I couldn’t have him know that I was a vampire. I’m scared of what his reaction will be. I’m scared he would hate me and not want to have anything to do with me anymore.”
“Calm down.” He squeezed her shoulder lightly to comfort her. “He’s your brother, and I’m sure he wouldn’t love you any less.”
“You think?” She asked.
“You know you can’t keep hiding your true identity from him forever, right?“
“I’ve kept it a secret for years now, and—“
He cut her off. “He’s growing up, Angel. He’s not a child anymore. You live with him, and if you keep compelling him over and over again over the same thing, he’ll realise he’s having memory gaps and think he’s crazy. Do you want to do that to your brother?”
She knew he was right, but she was still scared of what his reaction would be. He was her only brother, and she never wanted to lose him.
Before she could reply, Chloe approached them. Damon moved back to his former position.
“Liam would kill us if he found out that we were hanging out without him.” Chloe exhaled sharply as she settled on her seat.
“What were you two discussing? Why are you suddenly quiet?” She asked, throwing suspicious glances at the both of them. “You guys have been sneaky.”
“We were just talking about the English project.” Angel lied.
"I hope you are not trying to steal my boyfriend." She jokingly remarked. “You have an opportunity to be with Bryan. I think he likes you. And he’s single. Grab your copy. Now!”
“Poor, Bryan. He should be on his way back now.” Damon flicked his gaze at Angel, chuckling. “You mean, girl.”
“She’s mean?” A familiar voice suddenly spoke as she sat beside Angel.
Angel’s heart dropped to her stomach as she panicked. Oh, no. It was the evil vampire that attempted to kill her in the woods.
Her partner, Elijah, sat beside Chloe, wrapping his arm around her with a devilish grin on his face.
