Chapter 34

updated Isaiah’s P.O.V Ava and I had been in our room ever since training finished and I was really proud of how she handled herself in the fight, but it did lead to a lot more questions. We have been talking for the past few hours and she had finally accepted me as her mate, even though I had to explain it to her several times. “Isaiah, it's not fair. You can mark me and you have, but I can’t mark you.” Ava said, pouting. “Why don’t you give it a try and see if you can.” I replied and she jumped on me, smiling. She bit into my neck as hard as she could and damn it she was biting the hell out of me. I felt as my blood trickled from my neck and dripped down to my shoulder. “Okay, okay, okay, you did it, damn it you did it.” I quickly said, feeling the pain. She let go of my neck and sat up, smirking at me. “Serves you right, that's what you get for doing that to me. Now you know what I felt.” Ava said, making us both laugh. She was right, I had caused her pain when I marked her, but at least I tried not to by licking her marking spot first. I felt as the skin around my mark started healing, so I got up and looked in the mirror. My mark was a moon just like Ava’s, but whereas Ava’s was a half moon, mine was a full moon. “Nice.” I said to myself and then went back to sit on the bed next to Ava. “I need everyone to meet me in my office in the next few minutes.” Dad said, mind-linking me and the others, but then he ended the link before I could reply. “What was that? What happened to you then?” Ava asked, looking cautiously at me. I stopped and thought for a moment, confused as to what she was talking about and then I realised. “Do you mean how my eyes glazed over just now?” I asked and she nodded. I had completely forgotten to warn her about how we look when we are mind-linking, hell I had completely forgotten to tell her about mind-linking all together. “You see, it's, er, it's called mind-linking. It's how we communicate without actually opening our mouths and talking, mates can do it and members of a pack, but the Alpha can talk to everyone through the mind-link. It's kinda like telepathy and when a link comes through our eyes glaze over, not sure why, it's just how it works.” I said and Ava nodded, but then closed her eyes really tightly and scrunched her nose up. “Ugh! It's not working. I can’t do it.” Ava said, huffing as she opened her eyes. “Of course you can’t do it, you’re not a wolf.” I said, laughing, but then she gave me a confused look. “You said that mates could mind-thingy and you said that I’m your mate, so I should be able to do it.” Ava said, huffing again as she crossed her arms over her chest. She looked cute when she was frustrated, but I wasn’t going to tell her that. “Mind-link, yes, I said that mates can mind-link each other, but only wolves.” I replied, wrapping my arms around her and kissing her forehead. Ava and I started talking about where we were going to go on our date tomorrow and what film we were going to see when suddenly I got another mind-link come through. “Isaiah, I need you in here.” Dad said, mind-linking me. “s**t, I’m sorry dad, I forgot about the meeting because Ava was a little freaked out when my eyes glazed over.” I replied, feeling guilty. “Isaiah, forget the meeting, this just got a hell of a lot more complicated. Joseph brought a she-wolf into my office called Rylee and she’s my second chance mate. Holy f**k, I’m not ready for this. Bring Ava and don’t say s**t to anyone that I found her. I don’t think she knows just yet, so shut up about it when you get in here and don’t say s**t about it.” Dad replied, completely shocking me. “Dad, just take a deep breath, Ava and I are on our way now.” I said, mind-linking him back and then ending the link. “Was your dad doing the mind thingy thing again?” Ava asked and I nodded, taking her hand. “Yeah, come on, dad needs us.” I said, getting off the bed and rushing out the room with Ava. she had a look of worry plastered all over her face and I could feel her nervousness through the bond, which was yet another thing I had forgotten to explain to her about. Ava’s P.O.V Isaiah and I were having so much fun in his room, getting to know each other and joking around. I even got to mark him in my own way and I got him good too. We were just talking about going out to see the new movie Venom, when suddenly his eyes did that ‘glazed over thing’ again and then he said his dad needed us, which both shocked and scared me. Mercury was the head of the mafia, so if he needed help then it had to be either something big or terrible. Isaiah sounded so worried and at one point I felt like I could feel his worry, but just shook it off and put it down to my own worry. We walked into Mercury’s office without knocking and that’s when I saw ehr. “Rylee, is that you?” I asked, looking at her. She nodded and I rushed over to her, hugging her. “It's been almost two weeks since I saw you, I thought something had happened to you. Wait, why are you here? Hold on…are you….are you a werewolf too?” I asked and she smirked at me. “Yes, I’m a werewolf too, sorry I didn’t tell you, but it's forbidden. I just really needed the job to earn my way and make money so I could get out of the rogue life and that's what I did.” Rylee replied, but I stopped her from talking by suddenly sniffing her. “I was told that all rogues smell bad, like rotten milk and eggs, but you don’t, you smell nice. Are you sure you’re a rogue?” I asked, confused and she started to laugh along with everyone else in the room, all except Isaiah and Mercury. “Yes, I am a rogue, but I had my own room with running water, new clothes and my own money, but now I’m in danger and so are all of you and the rest of the pack. Alpha Drake gave me three hours to get here, tell you what I’ve just told you and then get out of town. I don’t know when they will be here, but by the time on my watch I need to get going. I only have an hour and half left, so it will give me enough time to shift and run until I’m out of town. Now if you’ll excuse me I need to get going.” Rylee replied, walking over to the door, but before she could even turn the door knob there was a growl from behind me and when I looked I saw that it was Mercury. “Look at me, Rylee.” Mercury said, looking right at Rylee. “f**k….no.” Rylee whispered, but I think it was more to herself than anyone here. What was going on? Why did Mercury want Rylee to look at him? Why didn’t she want to look at him? Mercury’s P.O.V This was hard, really hard. I felt like I was betraying Cheyenne, but at the same time I was angry at the Moon Goddess for doing this to me. I listened as she spoke to Ava and her voice was beautiful, like a bird singing, but when she was done talking I really wished she wasn't done. I watched her and she was about to leave, but I didn’t want her to. I wasn’t ready for a second chance mate just yet, but I also wasn’t ready to let her walk out of my life. “Mate, our second chance mate. I miss Cheyenne too, Mercury, but this is our second chance, don’t let her walk away from us.” My wolf Asher whimpered in my head. “Fine, fine, just give me a damn second.” I replied, unsure of what I was going to do and then I let out a loud growl, making her stop in her tracks, just as she was about to turn the door knob. “Look at me, Rylee.” I said, trying my best not to growl as I stared at her back. “f**k….no.” Rylee whispered, but I heard her. “Can everyone leave now, I need to speak….” I started to say, turning to everyone else in the room, but then stopped speaking and sighed. They were going to figure out who she was one way or another, so I might as well tell them and get it over and done with. “I…I need.…to..…speak with…..my mate.” I said and everyone gasped, including Gabrielle. “I’m sorry honey, I know it's too soon for me, but the Moon Goddess….” I started to say, mind-linking her, but she shook her head. “Daddy, it's okay, just talk to her.” Gabrielle replied, mind-linking me back. I watched as everyone slowly left my office, looking stunned, shocked and confused as to what I had just said and what I was going to do next. “Rylee, look at me.” I asked again after the door shut, but she shook her head no. “If I look at you I won’t be able to leave, I know you just lost your mate and you’re not ready, so if I look at you I won’t be able to leave….” Rylee replied, making me grow frustrated. “I may not be ready, but I don’t want you to leave, Rylee. Look, you can be safe here and we don’t have to be in the same room, you can have your own room, but just don’t leave. This pack house is big enough that we won’t have to see each other until we are ready to. I’m not going to beg you, I’m just saying don’t leave and that's it, I’m not going to ask anymore.” I said and then she sighed. Rylee’s P.O.V I really didn’t want to go, but I’m still not ready to be anyones mate. I lost my mate many years ago when we were running from rogues and then three jumped on him. He screamed in my head for me to run, but before I ran away I turned and saw a rogue rip off my mate's head with his jaws. I screamed and ran as fast as I could, that's when I ran into Alpha Drake and he took me into his home, but I wasn’t fully rogue then and I have never been. “Stay, please stay.” My wolf Shelby repeated over and over again in my head, making me grunt. “Fine, but I want a room as far away from yours as possible.” I said, giving in and then I noticed him smirk. His smile was sexy as hell, but I had to quickly look away before he caught me checking him out. “Come on, I’ll show you to your room.” Mercury said, stepping closer to me. I backed away, not wanting to be drawn in by his scent, as he went to the door and opened it.
