chapter 1( first encounter)
Layla
I was in a hurry, walking out of the building because the job that was offered was taken by someone else, which left me in frustration.
This is not the first time I am out of luck and this time I badly needed a job to survive. All the money I had from the house I sold was now running out. I still have to survive and finish my college so I can get a decent job.
Things were much better when my parents were alive. But I managed to survive till now for my grandmother who had been taking care of me but since she is no more I sold my parents house.
" Aouw," I yelped as I was hit by a massive wall of muscle. Rubbing my forehead where I was hit, I looked up annoyed.
" Can't you see where you are going?" I asked the handsome hunk who looked like he was in his late twenties.
" Girl, i could say the same thing," he said, looking down at me with a half smile.
" Just because I am being nice to you doesn't mean you could get away with anything."
" And, don't call me a girl," I said. I hate it when people call me a girl. I am not a little girl. I have been taking care of my grandmother since she fell sick when I was 16 and today I turned 18 so I am not a little girl anymore.
" Oh, ok. Little girl," he said , patting my head playfully. My eyebrows knitted together thinking if he has a problem with understanding what I am saying.
" Forget it," I said, with a sigh and walked past him.
I walked out of the building and after a few minutes I saw a cafe. I went in to grab a sandwich and coffee since I haven't eaten since morning. After I got my breakfast I walked out and sat down on the cemented area around the big tree.
I don't know what I should do now. How am I gonna get through college? I was thinking about what I should do when my phone rang in my pocket. Taking it out I saw Aiden was calling.
" Hey," I said, picking up the call.
" You didn't get the job, right?" He asked. He knew me well to tell that. We were school friends and he used to be my neighbor. It has been two years since he went away with his family but he they all visited my grandmother's funeral. His dad is a businessman and a nice person, so is his mother. They offered me to go with them as I was left alone but I declined, I didn't want to be their burden.
" No, but I think I will get the next one," I said , laughing it off.
" Lily," he said, his voice quiet.
" I want you…..
" I gotta go, they are calling for an interview," I said hurriedly Knowing what he was going to say.
" Oh ok. Call me when you are done," he said and I hung up the phone.
I knew Aiden had feelings for me i wasn't a blind not to see that. But I can't accept his proposal like that. If my parents were here my status would have been different but now we are from a different world and I don't want to drag him with me.
" Oh hi," I said when a kitty rubbed herself on me.
" Are you hungry?"
" Here,"
I pulled out half of the sandwich and gave it to her. She liked the turkey in it. I ate mine looking at her.
" By, I have to go now," I said and got up. But as soon as I got up she came closer to me without finishing her sandwich and jumped off as she began to rub herself on my leg. Thinking for a moment before I picked her up and took her with me home.
Jackson
I was mesmerized by that girl who yelled at me inside my own office. Maybe she wasn't one of the employees here, that is why she was brave. She looked innocent, kind and young. Her eyes were so special, sh*t I can't seem to get her out of my head.
" Sir," Will said from the driver seat.
" Uh yeah,"
" Where are we going now?" He asked.
" Get me a cup of coffee and then at the golf course. After that we are gonna go to the club," I said.
" Ok," he said and drove to the cafe. It's been a long time since I held a meeting. I heard things were getting out of hand.
I was waiting for the will to arrive when my gaze fell on the girl from this morning. She was sitting there looking sad. I saw she was talking to someone on the phone trying to be happy but as soon as she hung up I saw sorrow in her eyes as if she was reminded of something.
" Sir," Will said, coming into the car.
" Coffee," he said, handing me the coffee.
" Shall we go?" He asked.
" Wait," I said.
I didn't want to leave right now. I saw her the whole time as she fed the cat. After she was done she took the cat with her. I kept my gaze on her back the whole time until she disappeared into the crowd.
" Go," I said and with that the engine roared. I fetched out my cell phone and dialed a number.
" Jack," Liam said.
" Find out about the girl who bumped into me," I said.
" Alright."
Looking out of the window I hung up the call as my mind went to her. I shouldn't be thinking about a little girl at the age of 29, with a sigh I shook my head.
