26 It was so quiet. Nothing moved in the clearing, even the torches seemed not to flicker. The jungle held its breath as I lay motionless on the ground. I could feel my hair hanging around my face, the knot long forgotten. I opened my tightly closed eyes and lifted my head from the ground. There were no more colours dancing and swirling around me, and my body was no longer electrified. It felt like nothing had happened to me at all. “I wonder if it worked?” I thought to myself. “Guess I’d better get up.” I moved to rise. A soft whooshing sound filled my ears, and I was lifted in a lopsided, yet effortless, fashion to my feet. “Shit.” I breathed as my wing folded behind me. I stood there stunned for a few heartbeats.
