Chapter 5

Annabelle's POV It was either he was more crazy than I thought he was or he was just out right dumb to bring such a proposal to me. Of anyone in the entire Skyline city, he chose to go for me. “Mr. Alexandro, do you lack a brain? Or you love surrendering your life to death because you are a vampire. Do you have amnesia by chance? I tried to kill you four times in three days, and you bring such to me?” I said, disbelief evident in my voice. “I know who you are, and you are the perfect person for the task,” he said. I scoffed in disbelief. “You must be stupid enough to think I would agree to that,” I said. I hated beings other than humans. I hated humans, but theirs did not compare to that which I held for supernatural beings. They were the cause of my problems and I could never forgive them for it. And certainly, I did not plan to speak to them. Let alone get married to them. “Listen, you are the only one who can do this. There will be a contract between us and would only last for a period,” he said. “No,” I retorted, and quickly began walking away. I won't discuss this any further. Contract marriage or not, I will not get married to a f*****g vampire. He blocked my path. “You owe me for not succeeding in killing me,” he said. “You are ridiculous. I didn't even try, so I don't owe you, neither was there a deal. I will not get married to you, Mr. Alexandro,” I said and resumed walking away. His words replayed in my mind and I could only shake it off. It was useless thinking about something that stupid. By the time I got home, he was out of my mind. With my key, I got into the house. No one needed to check as it was a usual routine to have me home at such a time. I needed a cold bath despite the cold of the season. I didn't care; it was cold out. I needed to freeze and toss this day out of my system. I stepped into my room, and by my window was Mr. Alexandro. I shut the door in anger. “Are you mad?” I whispered. “What if my mother came in here?” I asked. “I don't care. I'll have simply told her you tried to kill me,” he said, facing me. “You're sick. I already told you I did not want to get married to you. So get the f**k out!” I yelled. “No,” he exhaled. “I need a wife, okay? And you are the only one who can be my wife right now. I don't care if you are an assassin or not. You need to be my wife”. “What alcohol do vampires take? It seems to make them really crazy. I need to have taste,” I said. “Get the f**k out.” I nudged my head to the window. In a second, my back landed on the wall with his hands sealing mine to my side. His face was dangerously close to mine. His manly cologne sank into my nostrils. “Let's take out the fact that you owe me. Fine, there was no deal between us. Do it, and I'll be the one to be indebted to you. I can give you as much money as you want,” he said. “Why me?” I asked, my voice cracked. “You are the only one who knows who — what I am and is not afraid. Most people here in Skyline are scared of me and even if I wish to hide you from my family, the purpose is my family and whoever is to get married to me right now needs to meet them, and they would not be able to hide what they are,” he said. “I've been told beings dislike getting entangled with humans, unless for business. It is a terrible plan to want me as your wife,” I said. Whatever he was planning or wanted, I wanted nothing to do with it. Being in a room of vampires, I doubted I would be able to not break down in sweats. “I don't care,” he said, but I knew it was a lie. He let go of me, spun around while raking his fingers through his hair. “Fine. I don't want to get married to be a human, but that is my only option right now. I have only a few days to get it done,” he said. “Why?” I asked. He was reluctant. Whatever reason he had to want to get married to the lady who wanted to kill him, I wanted to know. What could he want so badly that he could risk getting killed? But he was silent. I shook my head. “I won't get married to you,” I said. “My grandfather, okay?” he turned to me. “He wants me… delicate,” he looked away again, but continued. “He has threatened to take the Sinclair Consortium away from me, handing it to my cousin, who is married and has fathered six children. To my grandfather, being married shows I am responsible enough to handle its affairs even though I have been doing that without getting married all this while,” he explained. “You made a wrong choice. I advise you to find someone else to do the job. I won't get married to you,” I said, waving my hands as I took off my jacket. “It's just for the holidays. We have a little family gathering that would run from December into the new year, so I need a wife. After, we can get a divorce. For your convenience I will have the divorce papers signed by me and all you need to do is submit it once the holiday is over,” he said. He took a step closer. “Listen, I will not come to you if I have other options. Be my contract wife for the holidays and I will do whatever you ask. I will be indebted to you for it. I assure you,” he said. My first thought ran to my brother. He needed a lot of money. The Sinclair was rich, and they could fit his bills for a whole year if I wanted. But then again, I would not want them involved in my family. “Should I plead too?” he asked. I raised a brow with a smile on my face. “I ca-” “I don't need it,” I interrupted. It would be nothing but fake. “Fine. I accept” I said. Mr. Alexandro be rest assured that this would be your worse nightmare.
