Chapter 8: She Can Handle It

Nathan’s POV

5 DAYS. It's been 5 days and we still haven’t found her. The worst part is that she’s in pain, I can feel it. The mating bond was faint before we met I experienced some pain but it’s would only happen if she was really hurt. Since we met I can’t feel everything she feels and it’s killing me. But the pain shows me she’s not dead, yet.

Her scent ran cold I expect mint but I can’t be sure. This whole situation makes me feel like an a*s. I kept pushing her to be with me not knowing what that asshole did to her and I might of ruined everything with her.

I was sitting in the pack doctor silently sitting with Sky’s mom. She was sleeping now the doctor requesting to keep her here for a while wanting to manage her stress levels. She’s strong she survived the loss of her mate but I don’t know if she can survive the loss of her daughter.

“Have you slept” her voice asked ruff with tiredness making me look over at her. “A bit yeah” I lied making her nod. “You haven’t found her” she asked her voice breaking. “Not yet but I will” I assured not knowing if I believed myself or not.

“He’s pure evil but she’s not strong enough, not yet. She won’t kill him but you have to. Make that bastard pay for what he’s done” she demanded and I nodded already planning on killing him in the first place.

“She loved him?” I asked not sure if I wanted the answer. “Yes” she nodded pausing for a second, “she swore they were mates and was broken up when she found out they weren’t but she moved on. She used to be in love with the fact of having a destined love but he couldn’t move on. She pushed him away assured him that it would be better this way but he got physical trapped her in something she didn’t want. It took me weeks to notice the bruises” she continued a tear now streaming down her face.

“He almost beat her to death one night. She barely got away and ran to Alpha Conner but Devin fled the pack before they could catch him. She’s stronger now more than she’d like to believe but she doesn’t believe in love. I’m assuming you’ve realized that. That’s the worst thing he ever took from her. ” she finished and I didn’t know how to respond.

“Don’t pity her though because she’d certainly kill you” she laughed making me smile for the first time in five days. “She’s in pain” I spoke feeling that she should know. “She’s strong she can handle it. Please find her Nathan” she pleaded making me nod and lean back into my chair. She’s strong. She can handle it.

“Alpha we have news”

Skylar’s POV

I gritted my teeth as another blow came across my cheek. He was drunk I could smell the mixture of booze and cigarettes. My heart aches but it was comforting because the pain wasn’t mine. I could feel how hurt Nathan was at my absence knowing he wanted to find me.

“You’re worthless. Nothing more than a w***e wanting to run away and mate some Alpha so he can infect you with pups. Look at yourself you’re weak. You want to bring children into this world with a deadbeat mother like you” he growled making me chuckle.

“Somebody really should have told your mother the same thing” I replied receiving a hard punch to the stomach making me bend over as most as I could in the chair.

It hasn’t been like this for the last five days. After our first altercation he was nice, brought me food and water until I asked him once again last night to let me go. I guess my luck has run out because he didn’t come back in a good mood this morning.

“Just let me go. Or kill me already. I’m never going to be with you and you're just wasting time until Nathan finds me” I coughed making him pause. “I can’t do that Skylar” he whispered grabbing my face softly. “I can’t do that because I love you” he whispered making my head shake.

“You don’t love me. If you did you’d never do this” I answered tears starting to well in my eyes. “Oh baby don’t cry” He asked whipping a tear his mood swings starting to give me whiplash.

“Baby? My wrists hurt really bad. Do you think you can take off the chains, just for a second?” I asked deciding to give in to his fantasy. “You’ll run” he snapped making my head shake. “No. No. I promise I won’t and my ankles are still chained just for a few minutes” I pleaded making him pause and nod pulling keys from his pocket and slowly unlocking my hands. I rubbed my wrists for a second smiling up at him before hitting him hard across the face.

He fell hard dropping the keys which I quickly grabbed and started to unlock my legs. “s**t” he groaned trying to get up making me move faster. I finally got up kicking him hard in the face and running out the door.

I was starting to get dizzy. This was the first time I stood in 5 days and I got up to quickly. I ran through the halls looking for a door. It looked like I was in some industrial building and my luck must have returned as I saw the shiny green EXIT sign.

I ran out the door slightly limping from the few times Devin had dug his claws into my leg earlier today gasping softly as I hit the cold air. I sprinted into the woods stopping suddenly at a small green plant growing from the ground. Mint.

I grabbed some crumbling it up and rubbing it on my neck and arms before sprinting further into the woods. “Better run sweetheart because you can’t hide. Not from me” Devins voice shook through the woods, goosebumps running up my arm.

That’s true I was never good at hiding especially from him but times have changed so let’s play.
