Miguel POV
Nang makapasok ako sa kotse ay agad kong nilock ang mga pinto saka pinaandar ang sasakyan. Ayoko siyang sumama sakin dahil mas lalo akong di makapag isip.
Her question bugs me. Alam kong hindi ko naman siya gusto, but did I really even try? I knew the answer kasi alam ko sa sarili kong hindi siya ang gusto ko. Na ginawa ko siyang pampalipas oras habang inaantay ang taong totoong gusto kong makasama ko.
I know I am such a jerk to even have agreed to this, pero lahat minadali niya. Pinag usapan na namin na di pa ako handa but she cornered me. Its as if she wants to imprison me with marriage, kinonsensya pa ako sa gagawin niya.
Napakalalim ng iniisip ko na natagpuan ko nalang ang sarili kong nagdadrive papasok ng ospital. Right, I am visiting someone special.
Nang makaparada na ako ay bumaba na ako ng sasakyan saka kinuha ang nabili ko kaninang mga bulaklak at prutas. Pumasok na ako sa ospital at agad namang may bumati na mga staff sa akin. Kilala na ako doon, ilang taon na din akog pabalik balik.
Nang marating ko ang kwarto niya ay pumasok na din ako. Nakita ko itong pinapakain ng kapatid ko. She was getting stronger everyday and I am happy about it.
Napansin din nila ako na papalapit na may malapad na ngiti. Mom smiled upon seeing me at nakakawala ng problema iyon. I was happy she was also fighting to get well.
“Kuya!” bati sakin ng kapatid ko.
“Here, get this, ilagay mo nalang sa lalagyan. Feed mom with fruits too.” Utos ko sa kanya.
I sat beside her at the edge of the bed matapos kung mabigay ang bulaklak at mga prutas. I smiled when I held her hand.
“How are you, Mom?”
“I’m feeling better, anak. Thank you for taking care of me.”
“It’s the least I can do, Mom.”
“Salamat din sa pagtanggap sa mga kapatid mo. Balita ko ikaw din nag papa aral sa kanila.” I chuckled.
“Mom, I don’t want them to stop their studies, sa ngayon sa school nila muna sila. Once I get the approval, ililipat ko sila sa school na pinag tatrabahuan ko.”
“Anak, diba masyadong mahal doon?” I smiled.
“Don’t worry about it, I can handle it.”
She smiled and nodded. Her hand lifts up to caress my cheeks. And then she held my hands and looked at it.
“Have you found the girl for you?” she then lifted her face to look at me.
I smiled and gently caresses her frail hand. I just nodded to her and saw her smile widely.
“Really? When can I meet her?”
“Not yet, Mom. It’s complicated but you will meet her soon.”
“Oh my, I can only hope for your happiness, son.”
I chuckled and kissed her forehead. Lumapit naman ang kapatid ko sa kin then handed me the sliced apples and peeled oranges.
“Mom, eat a lot of fruits. This will help you. I’m sorry minsan lang ako makadalaw, I have been very busy.”
“That’s okay, anak. Alam ko namang ginagawa mo lahat para samin.”
“Kuya, may meeting po kami sa school, di makaka attend si Tita Stefania kasi may lakad din daw po siya.”
“Kailan yan?”
“Sa sabado po. Sana po maka attend kayo, kasi wala na pong aattend non sakin eh.”
“Okay, I’ll clear my schedule for that day.”
“Talaga, Kuya? Yay! May aattend na para sakin.”
“Basta you have to take care of Mom while I’m not around okay?”
Tumango naman ito na may malapad na ngiti. Bumalik lang ito sa couch ng room ni Mom. I was able to transfer her into this private room. Afford naman kaya doon ko na siya nilipat.
Working with the Montecillos as their private pilot made me earn more. Halos savings ko nalang ang pagtuturo sa swimming,
When I came here in The Philippines, I was determined to find my Mom. Dad told me she left us but I know in my heart it wasn’t the truth.
When I found Mom she burst into heavy tears thinking she will never see me again. Turns out, my dad kicked her out of the house and out of our lives because my grandma didn’t like her.
Mom came back to the Philippines and married another man, 2 years later. She fought her right to see me and get me as I was still a child but her life condition made the court chose dad to have the sole custody over me.
In that marriage, she did have kids. 1 boy and 1 girl, ages 17 and 10 respectively. Their father, unfortunately, died on a construction work and Mom developed her sickness, Chronic Kidney Disease. That’s why we were in the hospital for countless times.
Someone was calling me so I excused myself for a moment. Lumabas ako ng kwarto at sinagot ang tawag.
“Yes. Hello?”
“Miguel..”
“Yes? How can I help?”
“Uhm, We're actually going to Palawan, can you do the flight today?”
“Oh, yes of course. I can get there in 30.”
“Great. Just in time for us to get prepared. Sige, I’ll see you later.”
Then he hung up. It was Matt. I immediately went inside the room and told Mom na may flight ako ngayon. So she hugged me and kissed me goodbye bago ako umalis doon.
Nagmadali na akong lumabas at sumakay sa kotse. Dadaan pa ako sa condo, buti nalang di masyadong traffic.
As soon as I reach my place, tinakbo ko na papasok and just changed into my uniform saka hinanda mga gamit ko. Then I rushed pababa ng lobby only to find Kisses waiting.
“Miguel, can we talk?”
“I don’t have time now. May trabaho pa ako.”
“Mas importante ba yon kaysa sakin?” I annoyingly looked at her.
“Of course, dahil ang pag uusap natin makapaghihintay. But what I’m rushing to is very important. Binubuhay kami ng pamilya ko dahil sa work ko.”
Hinayaan ko na siya sa lobby and rushed to my car. I have 15 minutes to get to the airport. Buti nalang malalapit lang ang pupuntahan ko.
Nakarating naman ako saktong 30 minutes na sinabi ko. Good thing wala pa sila. Nakahinga pa ako ng saglit bago ko nabungaran silang pamilya.
I was even shocked to see her with them. My eyes couldn’t stay away from her na di ko namalayan na nasa malapit na sakin si Matt.
“Hey, Miguel.”
“Oh, yes, hi Matt, Welcome a-aboard”
“Yeah, sorry rush to, we just got invited for tomorrow’s event kaya ngayon lang din kami nakahanda. Dad and the others are there, they took the other plane. Kaya kami nalang ang susunod.”
“It’s okay, di naman din ako busy.”
“That’s great, shall we go then?”
I smiled and nodded. Then watched each of them go up. Naabutan ko pa siya sa baba na aakyat palang. I took her bag and she just stared at me. I looked at her too, then saw her cheeks reddened saka umiwas ng tingin.
I smiled and faced ahead. Nasa may malapit siya sa bukana ng papasukan ko so I placed her bag sa compartment. She just watched me them again looked away. Her ears were getting red as well.
I tried to check on the others and they were busy. So nagpanggap akong may nahulog then glanced her way to peck her lips.
Her eyes widened and she was still. I smirked and then got up and made my way. She’s gonna graduate soon, I see no harm in making her feel what I feel.
