Chapter 1: Her Dreams

1317 Words
Maybelle’s POV “Dance with me, my lady, will you?” the man said extending his hand towards a young lady. I could not see his face since I was facing his broad, muscular back. He was wearing a dark green shirt, matching trousers, and a vest. The golden thread was embroidered on his attire. His shoulder-length silver blond hair was combed properly. He was emitting a strong and pure aura, showing his authority over others in the hall. The lady he asked for dance was definitely a royal born. Her golden hair was tied up in a fancy bun. Her light peach ball gown was complimenting her mesmerizing blue eyes perfectly. Her pale skin was flawless. Her rosy lips were wearing a pure smile. She was a perfect definition of beauty. “Of course, my King!” the lady said, taking his hand. So, he was a king! I could see his aura! For the first time in my life, I saw someone’s aura. It was so pure and strong. The man took her to the dance floor. They danced to the slow, joyous music. My heart clinched once his muscular arms embraced her. I did not know the reason. But it felt wrong. Why was he dancing with her? Who was he? Why was it affecting me so much? I was trying hard to see his face, but every time I moved; he moved as well. It seemed like he was unwilling to let me know who he was. But where was I anyway? I took a look around me. Everyone was wearing elegant clothes. All the she-wolves were dressed up really well. I was inside an enormous hall that was decorated magnificently. This area looked so familiar. But I could not remember clearly where I had seen it before. It was some kind of ball, I presume.  “Do you see them? The Alpha King must be taking her as his Luna soon,” someone said from behind. “Ah, yes! She is so beautiful! Every man in the werewolf world is longing for her. How could he resist such charm?” another whisper. “But I heard the alpha king has found his mate,” another voice. “They are just rumors. His mate died years ago,” someone replied. I looked towards the couple dancing in the middle of the hall. The tall, broad frame reminded me of someone I knew. They were gaining applaud from every single wolf presented in this hall. They really looked like a suitable match. But watching them dance so intimately was making me even sadder. It was painful! It was breaking my heart for no reason. Suddenly I sensed someone behind me. As I turned around, I froze after seeing what was behind me. A lady of my age was standing there. Her ocean green eyes were filled with sadness and pain. Her light brown hair was tied up into a simple bun. She was wearing a very simple ball gown. Her skin was paler than ever, covered with bruises. It was me! A very thin, pale, and sickly version of me! I walked towards her, but suddenly I tripped over something. And I woke up! Another dream! Why was I even having these weird dreams? They felt so real! All these started after that day! After I met him. I closed my eyes again. I could still remember clearly what happened on that day.   *** *** Flashback starts *** ***   I was by the waterfall, as usual. I was waiting for Zura. She was the only one who understood me. She came running with the news that she found her element. She was beyond happy. Then we went to visit the nearby village. After roaming around for hours, we went back to the woods again. “I am so tired, May,” she said while sitting near the waterfall again. I sat beside her. I was tired too. My wolf was weak, and hence I did not have a werewolf’s stamina. The sun was about to set. The area was peaceful. I was talking about different things with Zura. We hardly realized when the sun was at the end of the western sky. Zura stood up and so did I. “I did not realize when it became the time for sunset!” Zura said. “Yes, Zura. Time flies when I am with you,” I replied with a smile. “I will see you tomorrow, princess,” she smiled back. Suddenly I felt a presence. We both felt it as we both turned around. But it was too late. I cursed my werewolf senses. We were surrounded by some brown wolves. Their smell was all over in the air. They were rogues! They started to take slow steps towards us. “Do not be scared, May,” Zura whispered. She tried some spells to block them, but it looked like someone was blocking her spells. She started to panic as well. I mind-linked the royal warriors and my father, telling them where I was. I called for my wolf desperately. I knew she could sense I was in trouble. We were in trouble! Even so, she was numb, too weak to respond. I took out my dagger. It was the sole weapon with me. “Zura,” I looked at her worryingly, holding on to my dagger tightly. There were fifteen of them. There was no way I could take all of them. “My spells are not working, May,” Zura said with panic. Suddenly one wolf jumped between us, separating us from one another. Before I could do something, another wolf grabbed my leg. I stabbed him with the dagger, but I lost my balance at the same time and fell on the ground, hurting my head. Warm liquid oozed along the side of my face. “Maybelle!” I heard Zura shouting. “Run, Zura!” I said in a trembling voice. I sat back on the ground. I saw two of them in front of me, taking slow steps, closing the distance between us. I was scared to death. My head was hurting hard. I knew I was on my verge to collapse. Suddenly I sensed something. My eyes were drowsy. I heard loud growls and painful howling. Someone was saving us, I thought. After a few moments, everything became silent. “Princess!” I heard Zura. I tried to open my eyes. “Are you alright, my lady?” I heard another voice. It was deep and warm. I could not recognize him. I tried to open my eyes forcefully. I saw someone placed his sword on the ground. A very handsome face appeared in front of my eyes. I saw his silver blond hair was disheveled. His light brown eyes were worried. His sharp jawline, his full lips, his well-shaped nose, and then his smell! Pinewoods! I was still in a daze. Suddenly a strong hand embraced my torso. ‘Mate!’ my wolf said before I lost my consciousness. ***  *** Flashback ends *** *** I heard from Zura that that young man took me to the castle on that day. She also told me he was very skilled with swords. I never saw him again, neither my parents did. I told my mother that he could be my mate. After hearing that, she looked at me with confusion. “Are you sure about that, May?”, she asked me with creases on her eyebrows. “No, mother! But I felt something, and I think my wolf did too”, I told her truthfully. I was also unsure about the fact. She did not ask much afterward, but I knew there was something that she was hiding. Since that day, I had been having these dreams every night.
