Flight risk

Scarlett woke up to a headache and rubbed her forehead as she leaned up in the bed. It took a while for her to recollect what had happened, and she pondered in what bedroom she was in. She looked around and saw that it was dark outside, by the bed was a side table with a sandwich and a large glass of water. On the plate with the sandwich laid two white pills, which she thought would be pain killers. She swallowed the pills with the water and ate the sandwich, she was famished. She noticed that her camera was on the dresser at the other end of the room and her large backpack was leaning towards the wall. It was deflated and it was clear that someone had emptied its contents. She got up from the bed while still eating her sandwich and looked around, she peeked into the bathroom and saw a huge his and her’s bathroom with a tub and shower. She stuffed the last piece of her sandwich into her mouth and went to the bathroom to do her business, when she was done she would do her little checks, and sure enough, both door and windows were shut. 

She could see faintly out the window and she must be at least three floors over the ground. The bedroom was grand and it had a sitting area with a large TV and a little kitchenette. Scarlett wondered if this was the alpha’s room, so she went to the walk-in closet and saw several designer suits and lots of sweat pants. The wardrobe of alpha for sure, but what made her jaw drop was her clothes hung neatly beside his. She went back to the bedroom and opened up a closet she thought would be the linen closet, and there it was, layers of sheets and pillows, she grinned at her discovery. She went to work on the sheets, tying them together one by one. Then she used a pillow to break the window, it had to be done in several attempts so all shards were gone. She wrapped the camera strap around her neck and tied the sheets to the large bed, it had four tall posts so it was easy to tie it, then she used the sheets to hoist herself down to the ground. It was pitch dark outside but the faint lights from windows and houses scattered around illuminated just enough for her to navigate towards the parking lot. She found the same car and the same keys hidden in the same place, she grinned as she started the car and drove off towards her freedom. It took roughly twenty minutes on the rough mountain road before the engine started to splutter, that’s when she saw that the car was out of gas. 

The car came to a halt and the headlights quit on her. In the dark, she could see a large figure in front of the car, and it walked towards the car with steady steps. There stood the large alpha with a serious look and only wearing a pair of shorts. She cursed as she knew that he had discovered her escaping and ran after her in wolf form. He gently opened the door and signaled with his arm for her to exit, Scarlett reluctantly grabbed her camera and got out of the car. 

Greyson had to stop a grin from emerging when he finally spoke to her, “you keep running away Scarlett.” His voice was deep and husky, it made tingles erupt along Scarlett’s spine. He leaned forward and shut the door behind her, he was now leaning towards her and it had him only half a foot away from her face. His breath fanned her face and she shivered slightly in his presence, alphas could be very imposing as they usually were large and muscular men. 

Scarlett tilted her head and spoke with confidence, “I was on my way, I’m hiking the mountains. Thank you for letting me rest after I hit my head, but I’m fine now and I’ll be on my way.” 

Greyson scoffed and he inched closer to her face, he was gruff as he answered her, “and you completely missed the fact that you are my mate?” 

Scarlett looked down at the ground and moved the dirt a bit with her foot before she looked back at him, “no, I got that, it just doesn’t concern me.” 

Her plain words knocked the air out of him, it seemed like a brutal rejection. Scarlett squared her shoulders and stood tall, she was not going to back down. Alpha Greyson gave her a huge smirk as he slid down to her knees, Scarlett was puzzled by this. Then suddenly he grabbed her and flung her over his shoulders and started the trek back home to his packhouse. 

He roared out with confidence, “you are not going anywhere my luna, you will stay by my side.” 

He was smiling happily as he dragged her along for the walk, Scarlett was banging on his back cursing him out like a sailor. It only made Greyson smile wider, he liked the feisty side of her. He had a strong woman as his mate, and he was welcoming the challenge. Scarlett had stopped banging on his back and cursing him out as they got to the packhouse, and he was greeted by a stunned beta Jaxen as he walked by. Greyson gave him a short nod to say hi and a huge smile as he carried his mate up the steps to the third floor. He closed the door after them with his foot and walked to the bed, he laid her gently down and Scarlett had to lean with her hands as she got suddenly dizzy from going upside down to a sitting position. Greyson smirked at her before he sauntered over to the bathroom to brush his teeth, Scarlett bolted again but Greyson caught her before she got to the door. He pushed her inside the bathroom as well and there was a toothbrush waiting for her, she brushed her teeth while looking at him with angry eyes. When they were done he picked her up again, this time bridal style and she did not fight back, it was futile at this point. He put her down on the bed and went to the walk-in closet to get her one of his t-shirts, he gave it to her and turned around so she could change into the t-shirt. Scarlett kicked off her boots and clothes and got into the t-shirt, leaving her underwear on. Then she scurried under the sheets and laid as far as away from Greyson she could, he chuckled as he saw her at the other end of the bed. Greyson turned off the light, crawled in, and grabbed her close. She was flushed with him in an instant and he nestled his face into her hair. She could hear a sigh as he took in her scent, and soon enough he was fast asleep. Scarlett tried to escape his embrace but he was way too strong, so she gave up and fell asleep in his arms.
