Sage emailed Brody soon after nine Sunday morning to let him know Mike’s lieutenant had okayed his reopening the case. I was surprised, but not terribly I guess, when I found out Brody has a laptop. When I said as much, he told me he and Jon used it to communicate with Sage and Mike. “As well as for games, and keeping up with what’s going on in the world,” he added. “That way, we don’t go bugfuck crazy from boredom.”
“As soon as I get to the point where I can use one, I’m going to pick one up,” I replied. Then I laughed. “I could walk into an electronics store and take off with one without being arrested for shoplifting, if I was criminally inclined, which I’m not.”
“With luck, you won’t be around long enough to do it anyway,” Jon said. I hoped he was right.
