“A thousand dollars in cash? And I leave the key on the jamb above the door? I must be nuts.” To her relief, she’d found no sign of weaponry of any kind. She turned her desk chair to face the room. There was no phone, which was kind of odd, since she’d found no sight or sign of a cell phone. Maybe she hated phones? It looked like a hideaway or a retreat, not a place where someone lived.
