CHAPTER 8
SEATED OUTSIDE THE Dive, Jim and Donna enjoy the late September weather as they eat their hamburgers.
“I checked the web this morning, and Silver Spring is forecasted for a high of 48 degrees. Can you believe that?” Donna shakes her head. “This California weather is extraordinary.”
“So, did you grow up on the East Coast?”
“Born and raised in Maryland. Never ventured far from my hometown of Frederick.” Donna shares a story or two of her youth and mentions that her father served in the Navy.
“Vietnam?”
“Yeah, on a sub which took SEALs in and out of missions in the Hai Phong area. His stories are hair-raising.”
“As a young sailor, Admiral Parker served on a submarine toward the end of the Vietnam War. I wonder if they ever crossed paths?”
“Maybe we could ask him.”
