CHAPTER 29
IN THE FAR CORNER of the PR meeting room, the general consults privately with the admiral. At the conference table, Gruner, Anderson, and Donna work quietly.
“We need to make a few decisions.” Taylor keeps his voice low.
“I’m ready.” Parker matches his volume.
“Jim just explained that he’s uncovered a contract on me. You might have one on you as well. He’s only started to go through Wade’s file.”
“You’re not surprised, are you?”
“I guess not, but hearing it brings home the urgency.”
“You got some ideas?”
“We need to tighten the reins … too many loose ends. Gruner should check everybody’s phones for bugs; our offices and homes need clearing as well. Hell, our transports too.”
“Wouldn’t hurt. They know our every step. Unfortunately, we don’t even know who they are.”
