The bastard was accessing Base Four’s programs. Eryx confirmed it, pushed down his fear, and turned back to Leander, still resting casually on the couch. Nonthreateningly. Eryx didn’t want to think it was a ploy, but he didn’t like this one bit. “This is not a great way to get me to trust you,” he said. “Right.” Leander worked at his transceiver again for a few seconds. “I’m out.” Eryx eyed him for a moment before confirming that with the system. When he turned back to Leander, his mind was racing. He didn’t know what to do with the smuggler. He didn’t think Leander meant him harm, but the man wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to flee, even if it meant putting Eryx in danger. Eryx really should restrain him again.
