Kiara POV
I spin in front of the mirror while checking on my look for one last time. My lips curved a satisfied smile as I looked at my own reflection in the mirror.
“You look sexy as hell, Kiara,” I said while fixing a lock of wave in my hair.
I wore a black crop top paired with some high waist jeans. I grabbed the strappy heels from the closet and quickly put them on. I was already late for the surprise. Do you want to know what’s so special about tonight?
Tonight is my second anniversary with my boyfriend, Nolan. I wanted to surprise him by showing up in his apartment without telling him first.
After driving for around thirty minutes, I am now standing right in front of his door.
I brought some wine and cake in my hand. I try to knock on the door once. But it didn’t move a bit. Is Nolan at home? Thank God I had the spare key to his apartment.
I reached for the key inside my bag and opened the door. I peeked inside, and I almost dropped the cake in my hand as I saw Nolan making out with a woman on the couch.
“Stay away from him, you b***h!” I pulled her hair from behind. Nolan’s face was pale as he saw me. “Babe, what are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be in Paris by now?” he asked. Both his hands were fumbling with the button, closing his shirt back.
“We’re done!..” I said, throwing the cake into his chest. I should’ve known about this. I should’ve read the sign. His behavior had changed these last few months. I didn’t notice them at first because I was so busy with my job.
My dad owns a fashion magazine named FASHLUX. Being the heir of the company wasn’t easy. If only I was a man, or if only I had a brother. I might not have to work this hard.
My job never let me stay in one city for too long. That’s why it was hard for me to be in a relationship.
But Nolan is different. We had survived for two years now. It was the longest relationship that I ever had with a man.
“Kiara, wait!?..” he said, holding me by the wrist from behind. I turned around to face him and swatted his hand away harshly. “Don’t you dare to touch me again!?” I warned him sternly.
Guilt filled his face, but now I feel disgusted by him. I pushed him back and walked away. “Kiara!..” he was still shouting from behind, calling for my names, but I ignored him. For all I know, he could just go f**k himself… or that woman… ughhh.
Dad must be disappointed after hearing this. Nolan is one of his business associate’s sons. He will be pissed if he finds out about Nolan’s infidelity. Dad would chop him into small pieces and feed him to our dogs.
I walked away because I knew that I could find love. I deserved better. I wiped my tears and got into my car. I locked the car door because Nolan was still following me.
“Kiara, can we talk? I swear I didn’t know—“ I turned on the engine and drove away. What an asshole. I guessed what he wanted to say earlier is that he didn’t know that I would show up tonight.
Of course, he didn’t. I didn’t want to waste my breath by arguing with him and continuing to drive. I fished out my phone from inside my bag and dialed a number on my phone.
“Pam, are you free tonight? Meet me at the bar.” I said, making a right turn at the front.
****************
“Damn, girl! I’d never thought Nolan would cheat on you.” Pamela said, eyeing me while I was finishing another glass of whiskey. I raised my index finger at her. “No, I actually could feel it coming. He’s been very cold towards me lately.” I said, then sighed deeply.
“I couldn’t blame him, though. I can’t have s*x with him like another woman.” I said, pausing for a while. “I wanted to save my virginity for my future husband. Not every man could accept that.” I then added.
Pamela shook her head at me. “I swear at this rate, you will die as an old spinster.” She sneered. I then elbowed her. “A very rich spinster. Maybe I will find a young man to entertain me when I am old and unattractive anymore.” I joked at her.
She seemed to agree with me on this. “Oh yeah, younger men are hot. Not to mention their stamina.” Pam said, then winked at me. I threw my head back, and we both burst out laughing. She was saying as if we were old already. I am twenty-five, and she’s almost twenty-seven this April.
I loved Pam. She’s my best friend. She could make me forget about the breakup, and I could laugh until I shed tears. I was coming to the right person. I turned my body slightly towards her.
“Oh, Pam…What can I do without you? You’re just what I needed.” I said, pulling her into a hug. She ran her hand over my back to comfort me before we pulled away.
“You know what else you need right now?” Pam suddenly said. Her eyes went to my back, and I soon turned around to follow her eyes’ direction.
I saw a man. Correction… A very hot and attractive man. I am guessing that he was around my age, if not a bit older than me. He’s not your typical businessman or boy next door kind of man.
He had a tattoo on her right hand, but I couldn’t tell them clearly because he was sitting a bit far from us. Black dark hair, square masculine jaw, eyes that could burn you deep into your soul. Oh, don’t forget to mention those sinful lips. He’s not a bulky full-muscle kind of man like a fitness trainer. His muscle is lean. I could still see them behind that black leather jacket. He was chatting with the owner of the club at the VIP area. He smelled like trouble to me.
“Oh no, I just went into a breakup. I don’t think my heart could handle another hurt right now.” I said, turning around, asking for another refill of drink from the bartender. Moreover, he’s not the kind of man you would want to bring back to your parents. I am not even sure he had a job.
“Hey, who said anything about getting in a relationship? I was talking about having a fun one-night stand.” Pam moved her eyebrows suggestively at me. This woman must be insane.
“Seriously, what benefit can I get for having casual s*x with a random guy?” I asked her, half laughing. Pam shook her head at me then stirred her drink. “You’re hopeless…” she said in return.
“Let’s get out of here. I think I had enough drink already.” I told her. Pam then grabbed my hand, exited the club with me. She didn’t seem to be in the mood to be here either.
Before we left the bar, my eyes went back to the VIP section, but he was already gone.
