Abby rushed to her computer, eager to research Trystan, but slammed her laptop shut in frustration, realizing she didn't know his last name. She sighed, setting her water glass down beside her. Her room, a sanctuary of organization, surrounded her with familiar comforts: oak bookshelves, a white pine dresser, and a king-sized bed. A projector hung from the ceiling, casting a warm glow. Abby's nightstand, usually cluttered with books and her laptop, stood beside her bed, a reminder of her abandoned research.
Abby set her laptop aside and closed her eyes, deciding to investigate Trystan's last name later. Exhaustion took over, and she drifted off to sleep, but her rest was disrupted by recurring nightmares. She tossed and turned until 12 pm, then gave up on sleep. Seeking comfort, Abby changed into mom jeans, a flannel shirt, and a black crop top – still wearing Trystan's shirt underneath – and headed out to find her siblings, Derek and Lily.
Abby called out for Derek, and he ran to her, excitedly exclaiming, "Abby, you're back!" Abby scooped him up in a bear hug, promising, "I'll always come back." She set him down and asked about Lily, learning she was with Grandma Stacy. Abby tickled Derek, making him squeal with laughter, as they headed to the kitchen for lunch. A make-your-own sandwich bar and fruit bar awaited, with various meats, cheeses, jellies, and fruits. Abby crafted Derek a creamy peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwich, cutting the bread into triangles before handing it to him.
Abby enjoyed her lunch with Derek, making herself a chicken and swiss cheese sandwich while he munched on his peanut butter and jelly triangles. As they finished, Kali arrived, and Derek excitedly greeted her as "Aunt Kali," running to hug her legs. Abby washed their plates, then sat by the pool, watching Kali and Derek play tag and hide-and-seek in the backyard. Kali's laughter and Derek's squeals filled the air as they chased each other around the garden. Abby smiled, feeling grateful for these moments of joy. Kali eventually joined Abby, out of breath, and they watched Derek try to climb a tree, his little legs scrambling for footholds. Suddenly, Abby's phone rang, displaying Trystan's name on the screen. Her eyes widened, and she slowly looked up at Kali, saying, "It's Trystan." Kali's eyebrows rose in surprise, and she whispered, "Answer it!"
