"There's no way out, Lyra." Damon's voice echoed, cold and victorious as he entered the glade. The wolf pack snarled softly, their luminous eyes fixed on her and Kael.
Kael's hands balled into fists, his body ready to fight. He moved in front of Lyra, protecting her from the wolves. "This isn't necessary, Damon. Release her."
Damon chuckled, the sound icy and harsh. "You're still clueless, aren't you, Kael? Lyra belongs to me. She picked this life when she became my wife."
"I didn't choose this!" Lyra cried out, her voice shaking with rage. "You coerced me! You've been forcing me ever since!"
Damon's eyes flashed menacingly. "I offered you strength. I gave you a role in the pack."
"All you gave me was dread and suffering," Lyra retorted, edging closer to Kael. "And I'm not scared of you anymore."
Damon's mouth curved into a wicked grin. "You will be."
The wolves advanced, encircling them in a shrinking ring. Lyra's heart raced, her gaze flitting between the wolves and Damon. They were cornered.
Kael spoke calmly but firmly. "Let us go, Damon. This doesn't need to end in violence."
Damon's eyes blazed with fury. "Oh, it will end in violence, Kael. Yours."
Before Lyra could respond, Damon transformed, his body twisting and expanding as he changed into his wolf form. His enormous, black-furred wolf stood tall, fangs bared and eyes burning with rage.
"Kael..." Lyra murmured, fear rising in her chest. She had witnessed Damon in this form before, and it never ended well.
Kael shifted too, his body rippling as he turned into a sleek, powerful wolf with fur as dark as night. His amber eyes locked onto Damon's, prepared for the impending clash.
The two wolves circled each other, growling deeply, waiting for the first attack. Tension filled the air, and Lyra's heart pounded as she watched helplessly.
"You can't beat me, Kael," Damon snarled, his voice echoing in their minds through the pack link. "You're feeble. You always have been."
Kael's growl rumbled through the air. "I won't let you harm her anymore."
Damon pounced, teeth gleaming as he aimed for Kael's neck. Kael narrowly evaded, retaliating with a quick s***h. The wolves crashed together, their bodies a whirlwind of fur and claws as they bit and snapped at each other.
Lyra watched the fierce battle, her heart in her throat. Blood stained the earth as Kael and Damon tore into one another. Each moment felt endless as she silently prayed for Kael's survival.
A brown wolf with glowing eyes growled and moved towards Lyra. Her pulse quickened. "Kael!" she yelled, but he was too engrossed in fighting Damon to hear.
The wolf leaped at her, fangs bared, but Kael's powerful form slammed into it mid-air, sending it flying across the clearing. Kael's determined gaze met Lyra's briefly before he turned back to face Damon.
But Damon was quicker. With a vicious growl, he rammed into Kael's flank, knocking him down. Lyra cried out as Kael hit the ground, Damon's massive form looming over him.
"No!" Lyra rushed forward, fear forgotten in her desperation to reach Kael.
Damon turned his glowing eyes on her, baring his teeth in a cruel grin. "Stay out of this, Lyra."
She halted, heart racing. Her eyes darted to Kael, who was struggling to stand, blood dripping from his side.
Damon's attention returned to Kael, his voice menacing. "I warned you, Kael. You can't win."
Damon lunged at Kael again, jaws snapping. This time, Kael was prepared. He rolled away, his body moving with warrior-like agility. In a flash, Kael sprang at Damon, sinking his teeth into Damon's shoulder.
Damon howled in pain, trying to shake Kael off, but Kael held firm, jaws locked tight. The other wolves growled, shifting uneasily as they watched their leader struggle.
Lyra's pulse raced as she observed the fight. She sensed the pack's growing tension. If Kael could defeat Damon, the pack would no longer follow him.
But Damon wasn't finished. With a furious roar, he flung Kael off, sending him crashing into a tree. Kael groaned as he hit the ground, his body shaking with pain.
Lyra dashed to Kael, trembling as she knelt by his side. "Kael, come on, you need to stand," she murmured, her eyes welling up.
Kael's amber gaze met hers, weary yet resolute. He attempted to rise, but his legs quivered beneath him.
Damon reverted to his human form, panting as he glowered at them. "It's done. You've lost, Kael."
Lyra's chest constricted as she faced Damon, her heart pounding. "No," she breathed. "This isn't over."
Damon chuckled, his eyes gleaming with victory. "Look at him, Lyra. He can barely move. You think he can shield you?"
Lyra rose, shaking but speaking firmly. "I can defend myself."
Damon's grin wavered, confusion crossing his face. "What do you—"
Before he could finish, Lyra transformed. Her body morphed into her wolf form, lithe and strong, with fur as pure as fresh snow. She stood tall, eyes fixed on Damon, ready to fight.
Damon's eyes widened in disbelief. "You..."
"I'm not scared of you anymore," Lyra snarled, her voice resonating through the pack bond. "This ends here."
Damon retreated a step, eyes narrowing. "You think you can face me?"
"I don't need to," Lyra replied, her tone low and fierce. "I just need to stop you."
Without warning, Lyra sprang at him, claws slashing through the air. Damon barely avoided her, stumbling as she attacked again, her movements quick and lethal.
Kael, still weak but determined, stood and joined her, moving in harmony as they battled Damon together. The two wolves encircled Damon, eyes locked on him, every move synchronized.
Damon was powerful, but together, they were stronger. Each blow weakened him, every s***h drove him back. The pack watched silently, uncertain as their leader faltered.
Finally, with a desperate lunge, Kael knocked Damon down. Damon growled, trying to rise, but Lyra loomed over him, her white fur shimmering in the moonlight.
"Yield," she growled, her eyes blazing with power. "It's finished."
Damon's eyes flashed with anger and fear, but he knew he was beaten. Slowly, he lowered his head, his body shaking in defeat.
The pack observed in awe as Lyra and Kael towered over Damon, their authority unquestionable.
As Lyra began to relax, a piercing howl cut through the forest. A new threat was nearing one far more formidable than Damon.
