13 Dominic took her elbow in his palm and guided her up the stairs to a hall of bedrooms. He chose a room at random and opened the door. It was empty. He ushered her inside, then shut the door and leaned back against it. “I don’t want to leave you,” Roberta said. She faced him bravely, despite the rending of her heart. “But you will. And you should.” Dominic’s large frame should have been imposing, but she wanted nothing more than to curl up against him and hold him close.
