Alice
My eyes opened reluctantly and instantly closed as the sun light streaming in through the open drapes hit me full in the face.
“Alice” Casey’s voice was excited and way to high pitched for my delicate brain. Whose great idea was it to go out drinking last night~? I narrowed my eyes at her as she kicked the bed again.
“Go way, sleeping” I mumbled, debating whether to toss a pillow at her head. How could she look so good, when we had drunk so much?
“Get up these came for you”
Sleep wasn’t leaving me quick enough as I looked up at her dumbly. In her arms was a huge bouquet of delicate pink flowers.
Roses.
Had she just said someone had sent me roses?
“Huh”
“Alice get out of bed now” She kicked the bed angrily again and I groaned, swinging my legs out reluctantly. “I’m up”
“These just came for you” She all but dumped the roses into my lap. “From a Mr. Moretti, there something you want to tell me?” Her voice was accusing, I knew the look on her face well. And it didn’t ever end well.
“I don’t even Know a Mr. Moretti, wait” I scratched my head absently, causing my hair to stick up even further. “Luca” Hadn’t he introduced himself as Moretti, I had been too busy trying to melt in a puddle under the weight of his amber eyes.
Casey’s eyes narrowed. “The Italian god from last night, his last name is Moretti?”
“So, he said” I desperately needed to brush my teeth, it felt like something furry had died on my tongue.
“As in the family that own this hotel?2 Casey’s voice was shrill.
“Possible I didn’t ask” I tried to kick the bathroom door shut with my heel, but she followed me, catching it with her hands. Looks like I would have an audience to pee.
“You do realize they are a mafia family don’t you”
I rolled my eyes at her.
“Not every Italian man in Vegas has links to the mob you know”
“You so gave a lap dance to the mob” She cackled with laughter. “Oh my god, you totally rejected him last night as well, this is classic. Only my timid best friend would attract the attention of a mafia dude” she lent heavily on the sink, eyes blazing in her head. “Can you imagine telling everyone back home, your mum will have a fit”
“My mum would have a fit about me giving a lap dance to any man, so we don’t need to share that piece of information with her, now can you let me pee”
It didn’t matter what she said. Men that looked like Luca Moretti were bad news. They didn’t have to be associated with the mob.
“But what will she say when she finds out you are going on a date with…”
“Wait what?” I caught the hem of her shorts as she went to leave the room. “What do you mean a date?”
“Oh, didn’t I say, I opened the card. He’s picking you up at ten”
She laughed again and I had to stop myself from shaking her. She was enjoying this way too much.
“You didn’t think to start with that?”
“I was having too much fun, I can’t believe you are going on a date..., with a Moretti”
“Not everything you read on the internet is true, you know” but my mind kept wandering to the way he carried himself, the way he seemed to get everyone’s attention with a snap of his fingers. Even his friends seemed to fear him. And then there was the gun. It had been hidden at his side, but I wasn’t stupid. I had keen eyes and I had known it was there.
Could I go out for the day with such a man?
Hell, if he really was mafia could I risk not going and insulting him.
I didn’t want to be sleeping with no fishes.
When I stepped out of the shower, I still hadn’t made up my mind what to do.
“Casey, I don’t think I can do thi…” I stopped; Casey was nowhere in sight.
“Do what?” Luca turned slowly from where he had been lounging looking over the rooms view of the strip. He took in the small fluffy towel I had wrapped around my body and the corners of his mouth moved up.
“Oh” what was wrong with me. Was that all I could string together in his presence. “Where’s Casey/”
“She stepped out, she said I could wait in here” He was worrying his bottom lip between his thumb and finger as he stared. Not hiding the fact, he was checking me at all. “Glad she did”
“I’m just going to grab some” I stopped as he stepped into my path, the only way to get t my suitcase was to brush past him. “Alice” His voice was husky. “What you saw last night”
“Is none of my business” I flashed him my widest smile. “But I do think I may have to pass on your offer of showing me round though, and the flowers” I reached for them with one hand, the other clutching the towel about my body. Why had I picked up the smaller one. Being nude around Casey was one thing but around him. That was a big fat ...
Nope.
He did strange things to my body as it was.
“I want it to be your business” He reached for the towel. “The woman was an” He seemed to search for the right word. “An associate of my cousins”
“Your cousin did that to her?” I couldn’t hide the shock and disgust in my voice.
“so, see there isn’t any need for you to start pushing me away now” He stepped closer, edging me back until my calf hit Casey’s bed and I couldn’t go any further. “I want to get to know you Alice”
“But why?” I was hyper aware of the way he smelt as he crowded close. Not quite touching., but almost.
“Why? Because you are beautiful and sweet and I c haven’t been able to get you out of my head since I saw you around the pool yesterday” His hand reached out, flipping my wet hair over my shoulder. It was such a simple touch, but it sent goosebumps erupting all over my skin. “I want to get to know you, everything about you” He tugged at the towel, bringing me against his chest.
“I have already told you I’m not into random hook ups” I said to his chest, my mouth at the perfect level to lick a trail across his pectoral muscles if I wanted to. Which I did. I wasn’t going to but god I wanted to,
“and I’ve already told you I don’t want to sleep with you”
“You don’t want to sleep with me?” I couldn’t help the hurt in my voice.
“Hell, I want to f**k you so hard you forget your own name but I’m ok if you want to take it slow”
“I am only here a week”
“Then give me the week, what have you got to lose?”
Oh, I don’t know?
My sanity?
My heart?
But I nodded anyway. A week in the company of a beautiful man who may or may not be a dangerous criminal. It would be something to tell the grand kids.
“A week”
